About Hoodman Custom Finder Kit

HoodLoupe 3.0 Glare Free DSLR LCD Viewing Loupe for 3" LCDs
Checking your histogram, composition and focus outdoors is easy with Hoodman's HoodLoupe 3.0. HoodLoupe 3.0 is worn around your neck just like a normal loupe. When it is time to review your image simply place HoodLoupe over LCD screen. To accommodate those with less perfect vision, HoodLoupe has a +/-3 diopter adjustment. Precise German glass optics, give you a 1 to 1 ratio for non-pixelated LCD screen viewing. HoodLoupe is encased in hypoallergenic silicone to protect you, your LCD and HoodLoupe from damage. Detachable lanyard and protective storage case included. To faciliate mounting for video capture, HoodLoupe integrates with 1/4 - 20 mounting solutions.

HCP Custom Finder Plate for Video Capture
The Custom Finder Plate for Video Capture from Hoodman is an adjustable mounting solution for virtually any DSLR with a 3" LCD screen. It includes an HCP Base Plate, an H3.0 Adapter for 3" LCDs, and a hex tool for horizontal and vertical adjustments.

The base plate features a camera mounting screw and du al 1/4"-20 tripod sockets. Connected to it is an upright column that attaches to the H32 HoodLoupe for 3.2" displays. The on-board hex tool enables horizontal and vertical adjustments. The horizontal quick-release bar attached to the upright column that supports the loupe can be easily moved in and out using the brass knob, allowing you to attach or remove the loupe from the assembly.

The HCP base plate features anti-twist bars, a hand strap slot, and a camera sling strap attachment point. It is constructed in the USA from milled black anodized aluminum.

Teardrop Eyecup
An upgrade for all HoodLoupe eyecups, the Hoodman HoodLoupe Tear drop Eyecup blocks out ambient light for improved visibility when looking at your camera's LCD screen. The tear drop shape is a natural fit for the contour of your head, creating a complete light seal and offering added comfort. The eyecup emulates eyepieces used on high-end motion picture cameras.

You can mount the Teardrop in seconds by removing your original cup and pushing the Teardrop over the viewing end of the HoodLoupe. Since it's mounted on a slip ring, the eyecup stays in place while you're adjusting your diopter and can also spin to right or left eye position.

Finally, a finder that fits.

This finder has three things that make it great: 1) fits around the view screen of the Nikon D800 withought blocking the buttons; 2) has a center line hole in line with the camera's tripod mount; 3) the Allen wrench has a slot on the finder.

Great help when shooting video

from Florida  -  Pro Photographer

This is a great device when using the camera attached to a cage and mounted in a monopod, so you are in control. Of course, you can use it just with the camera but that wouldn't be so confortable for your arms. It fits my Nikon D7100 with a 3.2 in LCD screen and the good thing is that the eyepiece is totally adjustable. I use it mostly when shooting video, which reminds me when using conventional video cameras. The image quality is just great. For pictures, I use the camera in the conventional way, without this viewfinder. It is a personal taste only. One thing I've found a bit difficult: Due to I have to use glasses, even though it has an adjusting wheel, the little distance between my eye and my glasses blocks a little bit to see the REC (recording) indicator, which is located at the upper left corner. And this obligates me to reposition myself in order to see if this is active or stopped. Believe it or not, this little issue made me to lose a few great shots. It's not a big deal at all, but you have to be aware of this because many times you click twice to the recording button and not realized that you've turned it ON and OFF, if not checking through the eyepiece. Other than that, it's a really great device, The eyepiece is easily detachable for fast changes. The structure is metallic made but it looks fragile 'cause at the end there is ONE arm or stick, which holds the eyepiece to the base attached under the camera. I would say, it is one of the most fragile part of the camera so it has to be handled with care —as with all photographic stuff. I'd like to see a sturdier version in the future! Another important fact is that it is made in The United States…

Easy to use

from Mojave Desret  -  Pro Photographer

The Hoodman Custom Finder Kit is easy to set up and use even if you use the system on different cameras as I do. But the neck strap is pretty much useless.

wonderful product

from New York City  -  Pro Photographer

First, this is wonderfully made, with all the possible "issues" taken into account. The base is built by Custom Brackets, which is great, even having extensions so it won't shift. The eyepiece is totally adjustable, even fitting my Nikon D800E with a battery pack. It not only includes a small Allen wrench for adjustments, but provides a unique storage spot on the product! View is clear and sharp, and you can fine tune height and side to side parameters to make it fit perfectly and it stays there! Not heavy at all. It's easy to remove the eye piece and continue rapid shooting with only the base plate on the camera. I will use this for video, but even more for fine still work. With the D800E and I'm sure many others, you can see manual changes in exposure while shooting so you control the dynamic range. I've used the similar Zucata product which is more expensive, clumsier, heavier and much harder to use. This is as well made as any similar type adjustable product I've purchased in the last 10 years.

Great Addition

Very helpful while shooting during the day or in bright light. It also has a better feel while shooting video on a DSLR with this attachment. You can also use it as a lupe just to set up shots better.

Questions about this item:

Andy H  Does it work with Nikon D800 with the MB-D12 battery grip?
JOHN Q  I would ask Hoodman. I have a D610 with a Vello battery grip and it attaches but barely. Feels like I might break it fully extended
Ken N  Does the viewfinder magnify the screen? If so, what is the power?
ELAINE S  Yes, the screen is magnified somewhat. I don't know by how much. It certainly makes the scene easier to see than just looking at the viewfinder without the loop, even if there isn't a sunlight/glare issue.
