The Flashpoint Professional Power Battery Grip for the Canon 7D is an optional but essential accessory with excellent ergonomics designed specifically for the Canon EOS 7D.
Featuring intelligent links to camera functions, matching the design and feel of your camera while doubling the battery power with a twin cell chamber that can load a choice of one, or two battery packs. This is especially useful when taking advantage of the camera's Movie mode or Live View mode - operating modes that use more power compared to using a single LP-E6 pack. In addition, with the included battery magazine, you can also run the camera off six AA batteries.
The non-slip rubberized grip offers perfect balance in any direction with full vertical shooting controls, which can be independently turned on or off as the photographer needs to enhance camera handling, especially for shooting vertical pictures - not videos, please. The grip has generous operating controls as well: shutter button, Main Dial, multi-controller, AF point selection button, AE lock/FE lock button, AF start button, and multi-function button. The base of the grip has a standard 1/4-20 tripod socket and a hand strap mount. Your camera's original battery door fits snugly in a protective hidden slot for instant retrieval.

Well worth the savings
It looks this came from the same mold as the Canon 7d grip. 2 minor cosmetic changes, one is invisible and the other is (in my opinion) an improvement over Canon grip. It looks this came from the same mold as the Canon 7d grip. 2 minor cosmetic changes, one is invisible and the other is (in my opinion) an improvement over Canon grip. This grip looks like the Canon version in every way. I can only find 2 differences (other than manufacturer's label). The battery door does not have graphics on the inside (big deal). The simulated leather on the front has a molded protrusion that fits between your fingers, making it nicer to hold than the Canon version. Due to this feature I like it better than the Canon version. The camera shows the data from both batteries correctly. The grip fits the camera like a glove and is molded to fit the 7D. I like the geared (screw in mechanism) mount to camera (not just a plastic wheel with thread going into base of camera, like some other off brand grips), it does not come loose and is easy to tighten. For those wondering about the construction, the plastic it is made of feels like the battery door on the 7D (hard stiff). Cosmetically the grips matches the 7d body perfectly. Even the visible internals, switches and layout appear to match the Canon version almost exactly. The grip matches the Canon version so closely even the internal battery retaining mechanism looks identical. I am very happy with this purchase, the shutter release button feels identical to the 7D. The grip has the same buttons and controls as the Canon version and in the exact same position as the Canon version. The battery door is in the exact same position as the Canon version too.I used this to shoot several hundred pictures at a basketball tournament and had zero problems.I don't know what the real difference is between this grip and the Canon version other than the previous mentioned items and a Hundred dollar saving. Very happy with this purchase [...]

I have planned an extended photography trip in Alaska and need all day batteries. This fit right into my camera and screwed on the camera mount. It has its own mount so one is not lost. It holds two batteries which helps in burst or video modes. I would recommend it.
I've used this battery grip for over 5 years on my Canon 7D body. It never comes off. It has not given me a second of trouble -- it has been completely reliable. I can't imagine investing extra to get a Canon-brand grip (as I did for earlier dSLRs); this grip has functioned every bit as well as Canon's. What I like about using a grip in general: -- bigger grip area for my larger hands -- better balance when using a long lens -- vertical shutter release when shooting in portrait orientation -- longer battery life (2x batteries), esp in cold conditions
I bought this grip because of the cost. Was going to just get the canon version. Well, Flashpoint is a well made grip for the money. The extra AA cartridge for backup is excellent, the batteries last a long time just on those. The rubber on the grip doesn't match the rubber on the 7d but it's pretty close. It is made of plastic not the same material of the camera but overall it is pretty good. I use it for shooting films and sometimes photography.
Matches the quality of Canon's at a much better price.
Flashpoint wins again with a superb example of how you can wisely use their products to built an affordable and efficient photo tool box. What a great value this grip is. Operates just like the Canon grip and puts dollars back in your pocket. There is no 'power drag' in the link to the camera - 2 batteries were still strong after more than 1400 shots - even with some built-in flash use. Good job FP!
This is a great alternative to the Canon product having about the same features at a much lower price. I found the instructions a little unclear when it came to storing the Battery Cover, but I was able to work thru it OK. The rest of the assembly was very easy.
I use this for the extra battery and the extra controls. The grip is roughly half the price of the name brand grip, but it feels like it belongs on the camera. It feels solid, and the design blends right in. Once soccer season starts up, I'll put it through its paces, but my initial use is real impressive.
Durable and sustainable in the field.
I have the Canon grip on my 40d for five years and loved it. I have this Flashpoint model on my 7d now and I think it is as good or better than OEM. The textured finish is identical to Canon with a professional "tacky" feel to it. However, Flashpoint one-ups the Canon product by wrapping the texture around the front of the unit. It looks more handsome than the Canon. I read complaints that material is cheap and it don't fit well. UNTRUE. It is as good, if not better than OEM. Mine seats BETTER than the Canon grip with no wobble. Both units feel kind of light and cheesey standing alone, but install two batteries and mount them on the camera and your mind will change. My only very tiny gripe is the power button. It is not quite as recessed as the Canon and when gripping the camera the button rubs on my palm a little and can be distracting---I'll probably grow out of it. Not buying OEM (camera equipment) is a first for me and I am very pleased. The Canon grip has never been removed from the 40d and I expect the same with this Flashpoint 7d combo. I suspect the $100 diference between OEM and this one may be weatherproofing to 7d standards. If you want a grip that won't disappoint buy this one---before they realize what they have here and raise the price!
I've been using Canon DSLRs with OEM Battery Grips for years but thought I'd give this less expensive alternative a try when I recently purchased a 7D body. I can't say it's the complete equal of the Canon grip because it seems just a bit lighter in construction. The battery compartment door, in particular, is a bit flimsy compared to the OEM model. Nevertheless, it does feel good enough and the finish is virtually indistinguishable. I've been using it regularly for about 90 days now and haven't had any problems whatsoever. It's only a grip. It has no impact at all on the camera functions or the images it produces. I don't see any reason to spend more than double the price for the Canon version. This is a good deal.
