It's an APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) and there's an effective 1.6x increase in the lens's marked focal length when attached. Canon's DIGIC III Image Processor dramatically enhances image quality and speeds up all camera operations for intuitive operation.

It works in concert with the EOS Rebel XS's sensor to achieve unprecedented levels of performance in all lighting situations. DIGIC III Image Processor is developed to maximize performance between the capture and recording stages of digital photography, the EOS Rebel XS's DIGIC III Image Processor works hand in hand with Canon's CMOS sensor to achieve even higher levels of performance. The entire electronic system is totally redesigned, giving the camera its incredible combination of speed and image quality. Digital noise is significantly reduced in shadow areas and color reproduction is superior.

  • Picture Style Settings: With the EOS Rebel XS's Picture Style technology, photographers can change the look of their digital photographs. Color, saturation, sharpness and contrast settings create noticeable variation in the saved image
  • High-speed, wide-area 7-point AF with center cross-type sensors:It features a high-speed, wide area 7-point AF system. It can focus using One-Shot AF mode, AI Focus AF, AI Servo AF and Manual. The center, cross-type focus point operates flawlessly in lower-light and lower-contrast settings

  • EOS Integrated Cleaning System: Photographers who must change lenses in dusty environments will find the advanced Canon EOS Integrated Cleaning System a tremendous time saver. Dust that settles on the sensor surface is removed using ultrasonic vibration
  • Self Cleaning Sensor Unit: A key element of minimizing dust is preventing it from clinging to the front surface of the imaging sensor. To combat against this, the EOS Rebel XS features a Canon-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit
  • Dust Delete Data Detection: Dust that may still remain on the front of the sensor can also be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional (DPP) Version 3.3 or later software. A simple test shot of a plain, white object can be taken, using a menu setting

So far so good!!

I was a little nervous about it being a refurb but so far so good. I've had my camera for a few weeks now and I love it. It comes in a Canon white box sealed from the factory. When I opened the box I was suprised that it looked new. There was no visible marks on the body or lens. It operates as a new camera would. I'll update in a month or so .[...]

Wow, incredible deal!

By

When I got this camera, I was surprised that it looked absolutely brand new. Another thing that shocked me was that it had only had about 250 pictures taken with it before I got it. I saved $150 buying this instead of a brand new camera. I was not disappointed and will only buy refurbished Canon cameras from Adorama from now on.

Great Beginning!

By

If you're new or fairly new to DSLR's, this is a great way to begin. It is easy to use, easy to learn on, and is a camera you'd keep in your arsenal even as you become more knowledgeable. Meaning it's a camera you can grow with. And when you do want to move on up the Canon line, you're not at a learning curve. Their menu and layout is near the same as the XS, so you just pick up your next Canon right where you left off and keep on growing.

I hope I find another deal like this.

I am a freelance Videographer and producer. I wanted to offer senior class pictures at my studio. I use a Kodak Z18is for stills in my videos, but wanted to upgrade to a DSLR. The Kodak offers manual controls, and I have used a friend's Canon XTI, so I felt it was time to buy a DSLR. I couldn't believe the price on this XS. Then I noticed it was refurbished. I was very hesitant about buying it. With the reviews here, guarantee, and price I felt confidant about the purchase. [...] Like other reviews, I thought it was new. No, scratches, no marring, not even a smudge. The big selling point for me was the price and guarantee. Do your research to be sure this is the camera for you. I just wanted an inexpensive entry level camera. I shot over 500 pictures the first week I got it. Next purchase for video or photography I will check here first.

Great Starter Camera

By

I bought this camera as my first DSLR for my family pictures, etc and it's great! I have had it for about 3 months, and I use it weekly. It has been durable and reliable, and even my 5 year old has taken pictures with it. One downside has been the auto-focus, and I have missed a few shots because the lens kept rotating back and forth and couldn't decide how to focus. Otherwise this camera is an A+.

Shopper  I am starting a photography internship soon. I need a basic DSLR, wide angle lens, a zoom and a fixed 50, also a speed light. What are the best products to get? I'd like to find refurbished items if possible. I didn't expect to get this internship and am not prepared. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you!
REMO F  It has been my experience that any Canon Rebel camera is capable of giving you excellent pictures. The refurbished camera I purchased was a replacement for a Rebel T1 that was stolen. When I received the camera with the EFS 18-55mm IS lens (by the way an excellent lens), I could not tell the difference from a new unit. This camera is a real work horse and is light in weight so you can haul it around easily. I currently use a Canon 50D, but still like the Rebel as a basic camera. Good luck, I am sure this camera will be everything you are looking for.
