High Speed Video, 240 fps, Shutter Speeds

By

from Baltimore, Maryland

For athletic motions such as tennis strokes and golf swings high speed video can be very valuable for analysis. One problem is that most cameras in high speed video mode use an automatic exposure control that selects shutter speed based on available light. The shutter speed that a camera will select in high speed video mode is difficult to determine from camera specs alone. Looking for a low cost camera that would have a fast enough shutter for testing, I decided on the Canon 110HS. My testing indicated that in bright sunlight using the widest angle zoom setting, at 240 fps, the shutter speed was fast enough to show the tennis serve with small motion blur.

Excellent for the price.

By

I bought this last week and had my doubts about the image quality and overall performance. I've spent the past week using it a lot, and have been very impressed with the results when used properly. I would recommend using a small pocket tripod for low light images to improve image quality. I have already recommended this to friends and family. I bought it for the ease of use, small size, and quality build, plus the Canon brand. I have three other Canon PowerShots with larger image sensors, and this little gem can produce nearly as good results, which is what I had hoped for.

My Elph 110 HS

By

from Undisclosed

Have used for a few years, thousands of shots. Excellent as a small camera. I like the infinity focus incase there is rain on the window or something else close I don't want the autofocus to select. For me this is one of the most important features in an autofocus camera. But no matter how great the camera, after time dust gets on the CCD and you first see it on telephoto shots.

Best Camera Ever

By

from Michigan

I was at a lake with family and my camera slipped out of my pocket and into the lake. I watched as it went 6 feet to the bottom, my heart sank. It was retrieved quickly. Long story short when i got home i did the rice in a bag for 3 days but that did not work. Last resort i put my camera in front of my hairdryer and let the air blow on the camera. It worked!!!! I did not loose any pictures and the camera works like it had never been in water. I LOVE THIS CAMERA.

Excellent camera

By

from Colorado

I bought this Elph 110 locally in 2012 and have been using for about a year. I've taken well over 1,000 images and many short and long video clips. I use it for business travel, tourist shots, photos I use in powerpoint presentations, work related video clips, family shots, indoors, outdoors, action and stills. Its excellent, I sincerely recommend it. It does not have a few features - but it has what I need. Low light ASA, infinity focus setting, fast shutter, HD movies. Very small, travels well, tough and produces excellent quality at a great price.

Great Point and shoot

By

from Utah  -  Photo Enthusiast

Just bought this to replace my wife's aging 870IS. So far we have really enjoyed it. It is super small and the image quality and video have been excellent. I bought the underwater housing and am taking it on vacation later this week and will have a better idea of how it holds up then.

Excellent Point-and-shoot option

By

I've been a fan of Canon and their ELPH line for a long time. I bought the Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 HS Digital ELPH a few weeks ago as an upgrade from my SD780IS Elph from 2009, and that was a replacement for my SD300 Elph. I also have an XSi, but because of its size, that only comes out for specific occasions. The 110 HS fits with my past experiences with the ELPH line. It's small, compact, lightweight and it's the camera that goes with me everywhere. The 110 HS model retains all the things I love about the ELPH line, but with a few minor modifications. The buttons have been rearranged a bit on the body and it now has a dedicated video button and records in 1080p. The Program and Manual toggle has been moved to the top of the body by the shutter button. This isn't a huge deal, but I did consider whether this was ok for me before I bought it, thinking I might accidentally switch it, however, it hasn't been an issue in the few weeks I've worked with it. The power-up and shot-to-shot time seems much quicker to me than my SD780IS, which is certainly welcome, and may be due to the upgrade in processor from my old model. The preview screen is a substantial upgrade in size compared to the 780IS, mostly due to the real estate that was freed up from losing the viewfinder. I've also noticed the menus have been moved around a bit from my old model - different key strokes are required to delete a picture, for example - but it is easy enough to get used to. The drawbacks I can see are that there is no viewfinder, but those don't often get used on point-and-shoots anyway, so I can see why it was phased out and have come to learn that a viewfinder is a thing of the past on models like this. I have also read others saying that the buttons are too small or difficult to push, but I think that is a feature of a compact point and shoot; there's not a lot of room for buttons, so if you need larger buttons, perhaps this small of a camera is not for you. It is worth noting, though, that the buttons are flush with the body of the camera for the most part, they are not raised as I have seen on some cameras, so it does require a bit of dexterity to push them. Both of these issues though are personal preference, I personally don't see much of an issue with either one of them. Overall, if you're looking for a point-and-shoot that's reliable, of good quality and compact, this is a solid choice. I'm very satisfied with this camera as my newest ELPH upgrade.
