Works Flawlessly
I bought and use the Canon FA-DC58B 58mm Filter Adapter for exactly that purpose, mounting primarily haze filters and occasionally polarizers and also, a lens cap. Taken together, the Filter Adapter, filter, and lens cap provide protection for the camera lens. The Filter Adapter rides with the lens, paying out when you zoom out and telescoping when you move the lens in to wide angle, an elegant touch. One "system" shortcoming if you use the optical viewfinder on the Canon G-12: when the lens is zoomed out, a chunk of the lower left corner of the viewfinder is blocked by the Filter Adapter. Maybe Canon will move the optical viewfinder over to the right a bit on the follow-on product. Not a problem for those of you who prefer the big retractable LCD viewfinder, I suppose. The G-12 for which this accessory is designed, while small, is not a subcompact or pocket camera at all, so the extra "thickness" of the camera with the Filter Adaptor mounted shouldn't be too shocking. I mention this because I'm finding myself inclined to leave the adapter mounted rather than fooling around with taking it on and off. Not an issue for me. I'm pleased with the Filter adapter. It's a very good accessory for a serious little camera.

I'd buy and reccomend this product
I reccomend this product. It's a magical Canon solution for G10-11-12 users that wants to use filters (58mm) of every kind on their camera without any vignetting even at 28mm.
