About Canon PFI-102M

The iPF500, iPF600, and iPF700 printers feature a new ink system that supports four dye color inks, and a 2-channel matte black pigment ink. Doubling the matte black is used for maximum black density and speed.

When printing, four of the colors may be applied at the same time, since matte black or black is automatically selected based on the media type selected in the printer driver. Matte black will be used when printing on plain or matte media whereas the dye-based black will be used when printed on coated or glossy paper.

Automatic Switching of Black Inks

The printers will automatically switch between Regular Black and Matte Black at the time of printing. Simply choose the paper type and the printer will use the appropriate black to optimize print quality.

The Regular Black ink produces high quality prints on photo glossy type media and the Matte Black ink exhibits high contrast prints with deep black on media such as fine art paper.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why doesn't this cartridge fit the iPF 650, when all the other cartridges for the 650 are PFI-102?
ELIZABETH S  I had the exact same problem with my iPF 750. I assumed that all the cartridges were PFI-102 when I ordered them from Adoramama. Unfortunately, in my case, the magenta cartridge is actually a PFI-104 - perhaps yours is a well. The 102 will not fit. I tried to return the one I bought to Adoramama, but they refused to take it back because I had opened the plastic container it came in. I had not used it - obviously - and I even took pictures of the dead cartridge and the new one showing the new one had not been used and sent the pix to Adoramama. They still refused to take it back. So, my advise to you is that you be very careful when you order something from them and double check that you are ordering the correct item. I had done some business in the past with Adoramama and will possibly do so in the future, but will use caution. If you still have the old cartridge, double check the number - or check with Canon. I contacted the service department where I bought my plotter and was able to find someone with a plotter that uses the PFI-102 magenta cartridge, so I sold it to them. Good luck and be cautious.
Shopper  What does the A stamped on the front stand for? Thank you
JODY W  These are ink classification codes for the manufacturers internal use. there's really no purpose for the end user.
