Canon Powershot SD800 IS Digital Elph Camera, 7.1 megapixel, 3.8x Optical Zoom, 4.0x Digital Zoom, 2.5" LCD Screen

About Canon

The PowerShot SD800 IS features a high res 7.1 Megapixel CCD to give you images of uncompromising texture & detail. With it, you'll capture what others miss, the delicate strands of a baby's hair, the intricate petals of a wild flower. Plus the camera is as beautiful to hold as the images it takes. The Perpetual Curve design has the look of fine sculpture. Yet it's practical, too. Its unique form is engineered for the shape of your hand

Engineered with Canon's sophisticated wide-angle 3.8x zoom lens with integrated Image Stabilizer technology, the SD800 IS Digital ELPH gives you the "shake-free" performance that makes your pictures sharp & clear. No matter how close you zoom in, the SD800 IS Digital ELPH keeps everything stable. All you have to think about is your subject

The DIGIC III Image Processor is the latest advancement to Canon's proprietary DIGIC technology, delivering superior image quality, ultra-responsive performance and extended battery life. It provides a speedier interface for the SD800 IS Digital ELPH's SD memory card as well as higher definition for its LCD monitor

DIGIC III also empowers Face Detection AF/AE, which finds all the faces in the frame & sets the most suitable focus point, when the shutter button is depressed half-way. Exposure & flash are controlled to ensure proper illumination of both the faces & the overall scene, eliminating the common problem of darkened or overexposed faces

>iSAPS Technology is an oriiginal scene-recognition technology developed by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed & accuracy, as well as exposure & white balance

The camera's 2.5" LCD monitor gives you the big picture, whether you're shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. This high-resolution screen offers a crisp, clear picture & wider viewing angle to make shooting, playback & using the camera's menu functions especially convenient. The clear bright LCD also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light

The PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH features ISO 1600 & High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake & sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater flexibility for shooting

With the SD800 IS's Improved Movie Mode, you can shoot extremely high quality full-motion movies at 60 fps QVGA (320x240). When you want to save space, you've also got Standard Recording that lets you shoot at 30 fps VGA (640x480). There's a 15 fps Compact Movie Mode that's ideal for creating movies you can attach to emails

The PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. Simply connect the SD800 IS Digital ELPH to a Canon CP, SELPHYor PIXMA Photo Printer or any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the lighted Print/Share button and print! Also use the Print/Share button to transfer images to a computer.

Great things come in small packages!

I have had this camera for about a month now and I absolutely love it. It is so compact and fun to use and the image quality is outstanding. I usually shoot as a part-time professional with Nikon D70/D200 with several lenses, so I am very picky and I had serious doubts that a little point-and-shoot could produce images of a high enough quality that would be acceptable to me. This little gem delivers the goods and then some! You can shoot with a surprising amount of control in the manual mode, or you can let the camera do all the work for you in automatic. The internal image stabilizer works very well, even when the digital zoom is cranked all the way out. The movie with sound feature is also great fun. My only complaint is that there is no real-time battery charge status indicator (or, perhaps I haven't found it yet). The only display you get is a warning about 1 minute before the battery totally dies. I have learned the hard way that you must always carry a charged, second battery with you when using any digital camera and this definitely applies here. I am used to lugging around heavy, bulky digitial SLR stuff, so I love being able to carry this camera that fits in my pocket. It is so tiny, you can use it without anyone noticing. I have gotten some images that I could have nevery pulled off with my pro gear. I have taken the images shot with this camera and tweaked them in Photoshop CS2 with excellent results. I can now say that I am a point-and-shoot fan and have happily added this camera to my collection of digital photo equipment. The Canon SD800 IS digital ELPH is a great little camera that I would recommend for everyone wishing high quality and a very high fun-factor.

A great pocket size camera

from New Jersey  -  Casual user

I bought this camera prior to a recent Italy trip as a back up to my SLR...Great for all types of shots...Best of all, it's small, compact and very user friendly!

from Atlanta, GA  -  Professional

My wife wanted a small digital camera that she could take anywhere. After reading the manual and playing with the features, I'm very impressed. This camera is TINY, but has an incredible feature set. I love the big, bright LCD and all of the advanced options. She loves that she can turn it on and take a picture with two button pushes.

Great for wide angle

from Fleetville, PA  -  Professional

I bought this camera to take with me on those occasions where photography is not the first priority, but a picture might be nice. For that it works and it has a true wide angle lens (28mm equivalent). It is not a digital SLR and will not respond as quickly or as accurately as a SLR would. Also the macro setting is a bit lacking. Basically it's great for fun, but not for obtaining professional quality photos.

amazing compact!

from chicago, il  -  Photography teacher

one of the best compacts i've come across, but it still needs a little work. for the price, i think it's great! bright, large LCD. LOVE the wide angle lens!!! would like more manual options. and quicker flash recycling. it takes awhile between pics. but i'm picky. i still think it's an EXCELLENT choice for a compact!

Lots of Camera in Small Package

from Bogota, Colombia  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Easy to change setup on the fly from dedicated control buttons. Nice size LCD for this size point and shoot. Good custom setup options. At times not sure what autofocus sensor is focusing on.

Handy easy to use

from Las Vegas  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I use the 800IS with a Leica APO 77 Televid spotting scope for digiscoping. The IS is a useful feature and the fine image quality helps to produce good digiscoping results. It's also a great little camera to take on trips. The wide angle capability offers good family photos.

Canon SD800

from Miami, FL  -  Casual user

Recently purchased this camera for dual purposes: I needed a good point & shoot for underwater (diving) pictures as well as a good land camera. This camera has succeeded my expectation with both. My wife finds it easy to use and I love the ease when taking it underwater. I am sure I could have splurged high end and purchased an SLR, but this I know I will definitely take it along with me everywhere I go. Overall very happy with this camera.

Great little camera!

from San Francisco  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Nothing but beautiful pictures so far, either Auto or Manual. I have several other cameras, but this one is likely to get used because it fits in my pocket.

Good things come in small packages

from Florida  -  Casual user

I bought this camera to take on vacation to Alaska and it performed better than I expected. I almost always had it conveniently--and comfortably--in my pocket to be prepared for anything photo-worthy.
