About Canon

Canon's iconic ELPH has always been a show-off, with the looks and smarts that make you want to carry it out in the open for everyone to see. The PowerShot SD980 IS takes the concept even further with Canon's first-ever touch panel interface. The camera that invented sleek and slim is equipped with a huge 3-inch PureColor System LCD screen that responds to your touch, delivering operation that's as natural and intuitive as cutting-edge technology should be. Four opulent color options are the icing on the cake.

Just touch your finger to the huge 3.0-inch PureColor System LCD panel and the PowerShot SD980 IS responds-creating a fun, natural interface that's just the way you want to interact with technology now. When shooting, you can choose an AF point, select a shooting mode, operate the flash, set exposure compensation and more. Playback functions are also performed at your touch: switch between images, scroll display, magnify a portion of an image and control movie playback.

The PowerShot SD980 IS's 3.0-inch wide touch panel PureColor System LCD screen provides an alternative to dials and buttons. With Active Display technology, a quick shake of the camera prompts images to play back, one after the other. When the camera is tilted while advancing the images, the advance speed changes according to the tilt angle. Additionally, by quickly moving the camera forward, you can jump between Focus Checker frames when reviewing still images. Using the same action, you can pause or restart a movie currently playing.

The PowerShot SD980 IS lets you record video in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 thumbnails at once.

The PowerShot SD980 IS gives you the creative flexibility to get up close or go wide, for impressive images framed just the way you want them. Despite its slim profile and tiny body, the camera is equipped with a 5x Optical Zoom-no more sitting on the sidelines with the action too far away. The lens is ultra wide-angle, with a focal length of 24 - 120mm (35mm equivalent). That puts more image in every shot for visual excitement and a high-end feel. And the best part? Even at the long end of the zoom, images are clearand steady thanks to Canon's Optical Image Stabilization that controls camera shake. And with 12.1 Megapixels, the PowerShot SD980 IS provides amazing image resolution.

More of what I already love about Canon

No, it is NOT a digital SLR, but it is a camera that can produce plenty of quality shots you can live with after very little post processing.

Nice, but limited functions

Nice little camera, but pre-set functions are pretty limited compared to the Nikon Coolpix P4 I wanted to replce with this. So, I returned it and will look for a more sophisticated compact. But, can't beat the price and the excellent Canon technology otherwise.

I've really enjoyed using this camera so far. I came in looking for something less expensive, but [...] it's worked out great so far!

Great Camera. Just Like NEW!

By

from New Orleans, LA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I have purchased refurbished products in the past, and this one did not dissapoint in any way. This camera appears and works as new. If you don't need the fancy box, it comes with all original accessories included. The camea is small, compact, great when you don't feel like hauling around a DSLR and has excellent photo capture. I would highly reccomend this camera.

Sleek and Handy Little Companion!

By

from Chicago, IL  -  Pro Photographer

Just bought it and glad Adorama has sweet pricing on refurbished quality products! Love the weight in spite of small size...still getting used to operational details. Using as daily companion when not lugging my Canon EOS 50D. Very intuitive touch screen operation - but wish it had a printed user guide other than just very basic start up (it's available via software only).

Lens Range is the draw

By

from Arlington, VA  -  Photo Enthusiast

For me, the big plus of this camera is the lens zoom range that goes wider than most. In other regards, its fairly comparable to most other competing digicams. The menu system involves a bit more scrolling through the menus. I would prefer to have more direct access to key functions like exposure compensation and white balance.

Good Buy for wide angle lens

By

from Tulsa, OK  -  Photo Enthusiast

My old point and shoot broke, and decided to upgrade to the SD 980 because of the wide angle lens. I've had it about 2 weeks and have been pleased with the photos. I am still learning how to hold it without clumsily bringing up menus, though these menus can be cancelled by a half way press of the shutter release. The camera's strength is daylight photography, and I love the wide angle lens.

Touch screen takes a little getting used to but the image quality is great.
