Love it,but has its limits

I have a lot of cameras,so I will just talk about a couple of instances. I was going to south Florida and had my SL1 with a Canon f2.8 300mm telephoto. I was on the beach and a flock of skimmers landed. It was a bird preserve so the birds just let me sit down on the beach with them.I got some unbelievable pictures which were razor sharp. I could have used a little faster lens speed The SL1 won't go faster than 1/4000. I was on a family trip and was asked to take some portraits. I had a Canon ...

I had a Canon 15-85mm zoom lens and a 600EX-RT flash attachment. It was sunny with some shade trees. I put the camera on a tripod, and shot on 10 sec delay so I could jump into the picture.I had it set so it would take ten flash pictures. The flash filled in the shadows perfectly and I got the best portrait ever. I had never used this before. Wow! The only other limitation I noticed is the mediocre auto focus compared to some cameras. If focus is critical use screen mod ,magnify it and go manual.

Very capable Camera

By

from Raleigh, NC  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this camera to have a lighter option for hiking and vacation over my 60D. Quality and ease of use were on par with the 60D from my experience. I won't go into a technical comparison as those reviews are well chronicled here and helped me to make my purchase decision. I coupled the SL1 with the new Tamron 16:300 and minimized the lens swapping exercise routine that was part of most vacations and outings. Performed well on a recent trip to Yosemite and the Oregon Coast. For the cost, weight and quality of photo's I would definitely recommend this camera.

Great Camera for this price !!!

By

from Sunnyvale, CA  -  Casual Photographer

This is my first DSLR and I'm already super excited about it. I bought this a month ago and I've already taken some good pictures out of this camera. This is very compact and also has a touchscreen LCD (though I don't use the touchscreen much) for viewing the images. There are several features in the manual mode as well for amateurs like me. I'm slowly trying them out. Even though it's small, when you attach the lens it looks bigger, but still smaller than other cameras. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the LCD screen is not flip-out, which Canon did away with (maybe to reduce the size of the camera). But this is really useful when you're shooting from a raised angle.

Fabulous camera for amateurs on the go

By

from Clarkston, MI  -  Pro Photographer

I'm a pro photographer, but I bought the SL1 for my wife. She LOVES it. She had a Canon SX40, but wanted to take her photos to the next level. She loves the touch screen LCD and the photos are fabulous. She is still in the "Auto+" stage, but she is learning to shoot manually with it.

My SL-1 Takes photo's that are of very high quality. It rivals my 7D and is a lot easier to carry when I am in the field birding. Adorama has been exceptional in advertizing their products. Adorama makes it easy to purchase what you want.I highly recommend Adorama!

Better, faster, lighter than my T1i

By

from San Francisco, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought the EOS Rebel SL1 (100D in the rest of the world) as a replacement body for my T1i, which I will now resell. The weight difference was the initial motivation for making the change, but the SL1 has the newer DIGIC 5 processor and a slightly more coherent user interface. I've only had the camera for a few days, so I haven't yet explored all of its features. I tried it out yesterday at a baseball game using a Tamron 18-200 zoom lens, and was very satisfied with my ability to capture the action using the continuous shooting feature. The new body and the old lens makes a great combination for most of my photo needs, and I expect that the new body will soon gather many frequent flyer miles with me.

Great Camera in a Small Body

By

from Florida  -  Semi-pro Photographer

If you Canon shooter looking at mirrorless cameras for those times you want to carry a smaller, lighter camera then consider this the SL1 for the following reasons: 1. Coupled with Canons 40 mm lens, you have a unit which is less than 4-1/2" wide, 4" high and 4" deep and weighs 20.4 ounces. 2. Handles all EF lenses 3. View finder as well as live view 4. Controls in familiar locations plus adding touchscreen controls 5. Can shoot RAW

Don't let the small size fool you...

By

from white oak, tx  -  Pro Photographer

Bought to have with me at all times because of size and capabilities. Great little tool. Never be caught without a camera again. Sometimes its hard to lug around the larger cameras and lenses, but this one being so compact makes it nice to be ready for anything.
