Almost Perfect

Just don't shoot in Auto Mode. Picture quality in auto mode leaves a lot to be desired. I used to own a Powershot SX10, Auto Mode was awesome in that model. The SX30 in Auto mode only gives you ISO400 and ISO800 grainy pictures. I hope Canon can fix this with a firmware update. If you set the camera to P and ISO80/100/200 you will get really crisp and beautiful pictures.

no manual

I got a SX30 as a precursor to a T3i. I already have a T1i. I was amazed to find that there is no physical, paper manual for this overly complex (for an alleged P & S camera) unit. This would not be too bad, except that Canon assumes that I have photographic memory (no pun intended) or that my laptop is surgically implanted under my arm for handy and very frequent reference. However, Canon really lost me as a customer when they decided to save a few nickels by forgoing the paper manual.

Best camera!

By

from Minneapolis Mn

We have had our Cannon since early 2011. This is our first camera with memory and we are very much enjoying the features. Simple features like instant review of pictures, easy editing for printing, very nice. Ease of watching photos on larger screen, etc., sweet. Very happy with our purchase, and no trouble with this camera. Also...the adjustable lens is really fun for closeups. Very good for details of subjects (butterflys, blossoms on flowers, etc) Great for detail.

the one I got is a lemon

By

from washington State  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The one I purchased takes great pics however I have had it in for repair 5, yes five times for the same thing and they say nothing is wrong with it--if so what am I doing wrong--NOTHING--the zoom will zoom back to wide angle as I am trying to take a zoomed shot--so I miss the shot I wanted-and then it will zoom all by itself when I don't want it to zoom--I want to slam the camera on the ground but haven't yet--I am sure if I had one that works properly I would love it.

Even a beginner like me can take picture

By

from illinois  -  Casual Photographer

This is my 2nd powershot, the first is over 10 years old and still takes great shots. I wanted something with a more powerful zoom.and this does a great job. I am still learning...only had it a week, but my family and friends say my pictures look so professional...it isn't me, it is the camera! I also took some videos at my Grand daughter's soccer game : )I don't think anyone would be disappointed to get one of these as a gift.

Great General Purpose camera

By

from Southern Indiana  -  Pro Photographer

Bought this for my parents to use as a travel camera. My Dad loves the long zoom. Both parents have taken consistently outstanding photos. Neither would be considered an expert, so this is a great choice for the casual photographer.

Easy!

Easy to use for anyone from the casual shutter bug to a pro. Change your settings or allow the camera to do it all for you. If you have any problems Canon is always there to help you. I would highly recommend this for all.

USED CAMERAS

By

from Portland, OR  -  Photo Enthusiast

This camera is probably GREAT as NEW, but I made the mistake of buying it used. Apparently it was not a refirb either. The Zoom motor and stabilization is messed up. I would simply encourage buyer-beware .. New is better, used it's a gamble at best! :(

Perfect for an African Safari and MORE!!

By

from Michigan

I purchased this camera in September 2010 when it first came out. The shop was sold out of the camera I had chosen and they had just received three of these. All were sold before I left the shop! I wanted a camera of manageable size that could perhaps get close ups of wild life on safari. It was perfect, our guide in Tanzania, purchased one for himself after taking some shots with my camera. It was a lucky choice for that trip and I am still enjoying it.

Something in-between a traditional P&S and DSLR

By

from NC

I love this camera it is a excellent long range zoom camera, something in between a traditional P&S and DSLR. This camera has a lot of handy features for everyday and also for semi-professional photography. The display is huge and lets you narrow your zoom object. This camera is mart investment, another excellent product from Canon.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
BILLY G  I like Canon cameras and this camera had a rebate and I like the 35X lens and I don't have to carry a bag full of lenses in my older years.
lana r  The date stamp on pictures is too large. Can it be made smaller?
James W  In looking at the control panels on my SX30 I see no feature for reducing the size of the date stamp. You may want to look through the camera's manual which is available through the Canon web site. (I tried to give you the link to the manual but this program won't allow it.) Other than that, Photoshop is an alternative, although somewhat labor intensive for doing multiple images. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
Shopper  How does this camera handle sports (football) shots? Hows the best way to take sports shots with this model. Does it have a continuos shooting feature. Frames per sec.?
JOHN H  The camera has a "sport" mode that makes taking action photos a breeze. It also has a continous shooting mode. I would recommend this camera if you don't want an SLR camera with multiple lens.
