Great Product, just one missing feature

I love my slingbox. I use it all the time on my phone and my ipad. The only thing that is missing is the ability to stream it to another TV well. I currently stream it to my ipad and then use mirroring on Apply TV, but if there was an app for Apple TV that made it full screen would be so much better.

Slingbox 500

I bought this to watch programs off my DVR while away from the device. The playback is not the quality I thought it would be and most of the time is choppy and the sound is not with the picture. Sometimes it is virtually impossible to even watch the show I want because it is so bad. This happens with live TV as well. This item is not near the quality I expected, especially based on the price paid. I recommend you do something to remedy the problem

Great product!

I just added my second Slingbox 500. I use it to watch TV in my office, in my vacation home, on the road in hotels and to stream in my home to TVs with Roku or AppleTV so I don't have to pay a monthly fee for extra cable boxes.

All I have is a hdmi conection. almost everything is protected. Wish you would say this on the box.

So Close...

from Seattle, WA, United States

My wife bought me one of these a year or two ago. We managed to get around the HDCP protection by hooking up the HD component cables off the back of our old cable box. So, we were able to receive all of our HD channels and it worked great! However, we moved, got a new cable box that didn't have the component video out. Only HDMI for HD video. Since a good number of the channels have HDCP Protection, you can't get them over HDMI. So, you can only view your SD channels. I have mostly HD channels in my cable package, so the Slingbox just isn't for me. It used to fit my needs, but now with new cable equipment, it just doesn't fit anymore. I would recommend it to anyone who still has HD component video on their cable box, but if you only have HDMI, it isn't worth it.

i am working out of the country, and sling box is the answer to my prayers! I could not be more happy with my purchase experience, the promptness of delivery, the ease of set up, to the high quality of the customer service team. I could not recommend this product more strongly.

Great product

from Houston, TX, United States

I have been using the slingbox 500 at our weekend home for about a year now and it works very well. The picture was OK but not great so I increased our network speed at our camp from 5mb to 12mb and that all the difference. Viewing is not HD quality as slingbox states but it saves me a ton of money by being able to watch whatever I can from my home provider at this remote home. I think my favorite part is I can watch my recorded shows just like I am at home. Great great product.

I have owned the Slingbox 500 about a year. I have 8 mbs up and 1 mb down. It will not sling from the living room to the bedroom with any decent connection. Buffers constantly. Very laggy performance. I use it on my Ipad3 and/or Roku. Useless. Very frustrating. Does not do what they say it does. (Unless possibly you have a very fast internet connection.) (Possibly)

Very Bad, compatibility with BELL PVR and Box

from Montreal, QC, Canada

After beeing a user of PLEX, I decide to switch to sling box. Error. Product is suck, poor quality, etc. My connection is a 175gigs up and down, so problem is not there. Very bad experience. It all be related to the BELL service that I am using, who knows... but this is going back to the store !

Great Product. I have family living in Japan and they love to log into my Slingbox 500 to watch and record their favorite programs at their convenience! Keep up the good work!

Not ready for prime time!

from Undisclosed

Tested this out to watch the first round of the college football playoffs at a vacation home on a large screen TV with consistent dropouts despite excellent broadband at the sending and receiving locations. An alternative streaming service tested at the same time worked much more reliably. I am showing my displeasure by returning this substandard product and urge others dissatisfied to do the same. At the receiving end I had a new Vizio 4K HD and a Roku3 box that seems to work perfectly and had the Slingbox app installed. Test #1: I downloaded the Slingbox app on my phone ($14.99!) so the Roku app could receive the Slingbox broadcast via my wireless router. (Note, once the Roku is connected by the phone, the phone can be switched off since the streaming function then goes directly though the Roku.) Results: would work about 5 minutes before losing the signal and would have to restart the process. This was definitely the worst. My wife was not happy. Luckily I realized within an hour that this was hopeless and was able to get an app refund on Google Play. A reviewer on Amazon said the refund limit was 2 hours so I only downloaded it when I was ready to go. Test#2: Same as Test#1 except I used my Android tablet instead. Results were the same. Test#3: I used my Windows 8 laptop to go to and watch my broadcast. Then I set up my TV to function as a wireless display (i.e. Miracast/WiDi) which works pretty well. This worked better than Tests #1 and #2 but it lost the connection enough that it wasn't worth it to try to pursue it any longer. Again the wife was not happy. Test#4: Similar to Test#3 except I signed on to WatchESPN (using my Comcast account). This definitely worked the best and the connection was solid. However, instead of commercials ESPN plays a single electronic composition in a mind numbing loop. Again the wife was not happy (after a while) but at least I was able to mute! Bottom line is that it is a great idea but the implementation is not reliable enough. My aim was to watch my expensive home cable subscription at the vacation place so I wouldn't have to pay for another cable subscription that I was only going to use for a few weeks each year. So far, mission not accomplished.
