About Epson

The Scanner for Professional Graphic Artists, Designers and Business Users.

EPSON's EXPRESSION 10000XL A3 scanner has been designed for demanding graphic art and business users. With its 2400dpi resolution, 3.8 optical density, network connectivity and high speed scanning capability, the EXPRESSION 10000XL is the scanning solution for the scanning perfectionist.

With an improved Matrix CCD (Charge Coupled Device) technology the EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL's 2400 x 4800dpi resolution scans exhibit incredible levels of detail and gradation reproduction.

This is particularly evident in the output from transparency and negative scans, where the original is slightly elevated from the glass by one of the scanner's bundled film holders. By utilising an advanced Auto Focus optics system, the scanner automatically determines the optimal pinpoint focus up to 6mm above the glass.

Rivalling the quality of many drum scanners, the EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL has a maximum optical density of 3.8, ensuring high-quality print-ready negative and transparency scans can be made within the graphic arts studio. This results in saving of time and money.

For graphics professionals, the EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL's ability to scan at any size up to A3 is a major benefit. Now, documents such as brochures, magazine spreads and CAD/GIS drawings up to A3 can be scanned in a single pass. Adding further to its broad scanning flexibility is the two-up A4 scanning, and with an optional Auto Document Feeder (ADF), the time-consuming task of scanning multiple page downloads is simplified.

Quality without compromising speed is one of the EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL's greatest advantages. With a High- Bright Xenon Lamp for zero warm-up time, a new bluish lamp to increase scanning speed for negatives, and on-board ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) for image processing, the EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL delivers the speed and performance required in the most demanding of graphic arts environments.

The EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL optional Transparency Unit (TPU) makes incredibly light work of scanning multiple negatives and transparencies. With bundled film holders, powerful scanning software and optional moving carriage TPU the EXPRESSION 10000XL delivers simultaneous scanning of up to: 2 x 24 frames of 35mm strip film or 2 x 15 frames of 35mm mounted film OR 2 x 6 frames of medium format 120/220 (6 x 18cm) strip film OR 2 x 4 frames of 4 x 5 inch film.

Along with the standard USB 2.0 and IEEE1394 (FireWire) interfaces for high-speed data transmission, the EPSON EXPRESSION 10000XL can be connected directly to a local area network using the optional Network Image Express Card.

In environments where multiple users require access to the scanner's speed, quality and versatility this represents a major benefit in productivity, and a saving of time and money.

With the EXPRESSION 10000XL, the user has total control.

The feature I loved on our old SCSI Epson scanner was the manual focus feature, on our old Mac running Photoshop. The feature I loved on our old SCSI Epson scanner was the manual focus feature, on our old Mac running Photoshop. The Epson site does not list this feature. This is a very necessary feature as I sometimes scan objects and need to set the focus point. One feature I do miss in the PS import plug-in is the "Scan All" button. This was helpful when adding several picts to the scan bed. It's ease of use, removable hinged scanner cover, de-screening, and scaling make this a great scanner for my department's use in producing video and web programs. I was also very pleased that Epson had a quality replacement scanner with the same features we depend on, as well as new useful features.

Graphic Art Scanner 10000XL

By

from Brownsville, Texas

The scanner is used for scanning pencil portraits in our studio. We use Photoshop to size prints for our customers from the original scan. In the past we had to merge 4 scans together to get the original. This scanner provides us a perfect original in one operation. Our customers are surprised with the quality of the copies. I would recommend this scanner for anyone that needs to duplicate fine art.

Very happy

By

from Hoffman Estates, IL

We are a dental office, and we still take and receive some film x-rays. But we have to have a copy to send with insurance claims, and that's where this scanner comes in. When our old film scanner died, we asked around and searched around, and Epson seemed like the best option. Turns out we made the right choice! After some initial trouble during set-up (the instructions for using the film attachment were a little confusing), we've had nothing but success with this scanner. If it lasts as long as my last one did, I'll be a very content customer.

"Pro equipment at a great price"

By

from Los Angeles, CA  -  Graphics Professional

It was very important to me to have a professional scanner capable of scanning large over size drawings at high resolution and with true image accuracy. With this 10000XL Epson scanner, it more than delivers with the large scanning bed, ease of use and simple set up.

precision and clarity

By

from Rochester, MI  -  Graphics Professional

In doing my own art work, I often want to change something in my original drawing. With this Epson large format scanner I can scan the picture that I have already drawn and can then make changes in photoshop without having to redraw the entire picture from scratch again. This scanner handles my large drawings and has true accurate color.

Some features that Epson could clarify

By

from New England  -  Graphics Professional

I ordered this professional scanner for a specific need, which it will fill well, but due to pressure of work cannot at this time explore all its other features. The need I had includes being able to remove the lid, or cover, and lay large matted works (which cannot be unmatted) over the capture area. The machine is designed to do this, and I was able to verify this by talking to phone support. However, Epson in its product description does not make this clear or easy to find. I found verification once deep in a long PDF manual and once by talking to phone support. When I read lots of reviews on [@] I could not tell for sure whether the product had this capability. It's such a simple thing to describe. It should be part of the regular advertising. Lots of people like to scan outsize pictures. When I received the machine it turned out that this was all there. The bed itself is large. The lid lifts up well, and also can be lifted off and replaced easily. Furthermore, the scan bed itself is very SHALLOW, unlike the office scanners which have a ledge almost one-half inch deep. This is important in case you want to scan something very large and "piece" the parts together. When the scan bed is deeply recessed, there is a shadow at the edges. It needs to be shallow, like this Epson.Final comment, I can see there is a lot of software capability for color scanning here that I can't yet explore, but a just plain color scan brought out much truer colors than my office scanner, when doing an image where exact color mattered. Much better!

excellent scanner

By

from minnesota  -  Graphics Professional

I've never used this scanner to scan film, so can't speak to that, but for scanning flat artwork it's excellent. I color-correct in photoshop and don't bother with the scanner software's adjustments, so can't speak to that either... but it's a fabulous scanner with an oversized flatbed. I use it professionally to scan artwork with great results.

Using grant money, I purchasesd an Epson 10000XL. We have begun using it to scan Advanced Placement portfolio artwork for submission to AP. The installation was easy and fast. And the images we have gotten so far have been clean, clear and outstanding. Thanks!
