About Epson 4900

Designed to redefine the standard for photographic print quality, the Epson Stylus Pro 4900 incorporates the latest achievements in professional-level ink jet technology. By combining the precision of the MicroPiezo TFP print head with the extraordinary performance of Epson UltraChrome HDR Ink, the newest generation of Epson Stylus Pro printers continue to represent a level of technology unprecedented in Epson's history.

Epson UltraChrome HDR represents the latest generation of pigment ink technology. Now utilizing ten colors - including an all-new Orange and Green - Epson UltraChrome HDR Ink produces the widest color gamut ever from an Epson Stylus Pro printer. Even more remarkable, when combined with the new Epson AccuPhoto HDR screening technology, Epson has once again raised the level of print quality, while setting a new benchmark standard for photographic reproduction.

The advanced Epson MicroPiezo TFP print head is capable of producing higher quality prints, at speeds up to twice as fast as the previous generation. And, with the latest ink-repelling coating and auto nozzle verification technologies, clogged nozzles are virtually eliminated.

Handling virtually any media type, in both roll or cut-sheet up to 17-inch wide, the Epson Stylus Pro 4900 continues to set the standard for professional media use. And for the first time, you can have both the front paper tray and roll feeder loaded with different media types and automatically switch between them as you print.

In partnership with X-Rite, Epson has developed a high performance, in-line spectrophotometer for commercial proofing applications. When driven by the latest front-end RIPs, the SpectroProofer can automate virtually any color management process in your workflow, making the Epson Stylus Pro 4900 the perfect solution for the most demanding local and even remote proofing applications.

Whether you're producing sellable color or black-and-white photography, fine art reproduction, or producing color accurate commercial and flexographic proofs for client approvals, never before have Creative Professionals had such powerful tools, allowing them to produce their vision without compromise.

Great Performer

The printer was easy to set up and I started using it immediately. I am very pleased with my purchase, this is my third printer made by Epson. I print High Volume and never had any problem with my printers.

Don't waste your money

from Atlanta  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Don't waste your money. The print heads clog pretty much where they feel like it. You will waste ink like Epson planned it that way. You can spend days trying to clean the heads. Support will give you a few things to do that don't work very well. You can get them on the phone at least. If it prints, the prints look great.

It isn't worth getting free....

from Oklahoma  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The head clogs, although it prints beautiful and awesome prints, the Epson inks are apparently the problem. Don't buy it! It wouldn't be worth it free.

from Canada  -  Photo Enthusiast

This printer clogs steady and Epsons support is awful once off warranty throw it in the garbage. First one lasted one week and printer head died. They sent another out. Currently trying to unclog 5 of 10 heads that are 100% jammed. Epsons answer is buy another head for $1800. Stay away from the 900 series Epsons.

Stay away from this printer

from Albany, NY  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The print heads clog on this printer if it isn't used frequently. If you call Epson with a clogged print head, they will set up a service call for you. The cost of the call and a replacement print head (which they say is probable) is over $1500. I've seen postings suggesting a need to use the printer at least every third day to avoid the clogs. I've had the heads clog in less than a week, so I'd go with the every third day. I've also read a suggestion for installing a humidifier in the room. The best solution I've found is to put a damp paper towel under the print head and move it back and forth when a clog occurs (a lot cheaper than $1500). If you buy this printer, you won't own it. It will own you. I wouldn't recommend this printer to a friend, but I would recommend it to some of my worst enemies. I highly recommend it to all the fine folks at Epson.

Great When it Works - Otherwise a Dog

from Richmond  -  Pro Photographer

This is a great printer when it works, but when it fails, and it will fail, you'll either be in for a struggle to pack it up and send it back to Epson at your expense even if you shelled out for the $500+ extended warranty or you'll be stuck with a massive paper weight. If you decide to have it repaired on your own, it will cost you almost as much as the printer's original price to get it fixed, and you will still have to either send it back to Epson or haul it to one of their repair centers (that are few and far between)at your cost.

Great Printer so Far

from Springfield, MO  -  Casual Photographer

This printer takes just about any media. Great Quality prints. It is very large. Had no idea how big it actually was, so make sure you have lots of room:)

DEFECTIVE out of the box

from Yakima, Wa  -  High-end Shopper

Adorama is a great company but Epson is another story. This printer has a defective print head and permanent, nozzle clogging issues, which Epson knows about, yet,..refuses to acknowledge and address. If they were a reputable company they would, at no charge, repair or replace these printers @ no charge, to there loyal, or in my case, formerly loyal customers.Save your self a lot of grief and avoid this printer

So far so good

Epson Stylus Pro 4900

from Lynn, MA  -  Quality Oriented

I been taken photo for over 60 years now & I been using Epson printers for over 20 years now & this one is by far the best one I ever own. The Prints are excellent. They take your breath away, they are unbelievable amazing. It hard to believe that a printer could print pictures this great. I only been using Epson color printers since I started printing pictures 20 years ago. When I capture a very special short I would take it to a photo shop and have it develop. I stop taking my negative to photo dealers for over ten years now and I never seen anything like the quality of these prints from this Epson Stylus Pro 4900 Printer. This is also the most expansive printer I ever own, I am very glad I brought this from Adorama, it the best printer by far I ever own. I have friends that have Canon & Hewlett Packard printers & we compare print with each other & mine just blows their prints away.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Hi, yes, sorry. QUestion: what kind of cable do i need for printing to epson4900 from mac? thanks
LEE G  Ethernet
david b  Does the refurbished 4900 printer come with new empty clean ink lines/tubes that lead to the printhead and need priming (as new)? -Or are they and the printhead already filled up with ink as if you purchased it from somebody that already used it??
THE R  I got my printer in April. Works great, the most amazing prints I've ever made on an inkjet. As close to my fiber prints as I could get. The printer comes with new 80ml cartridges. It's just like a new printer so the ink tubes need to be primed, In my experience it didn't take up a lot of ink. If they were already filled then it would be a used printer.
RICHARD O  And does a refurbed 4900 printer come with a NEW printhead in it or do they just clean the existing one already in the unit?
STANLEY S  I purchased a new 4900 which came broken. It was replaced by a refurbished one. Don't know if the heads were replaced
