About Epson 7900

The Epson Stylus Pro 7900 incorporates the latest achievements in photographic inkjet technology. It combines the precision of MicroPiezo TFP print head with the extraordinary performance of Epson UltraChrome HDR inks. In order to ensure consistent printing between multiple Stylus Pro printers of the same model, Epson has refined the manufacturing process to include colorimetric calibration.

Eliminating the need for internal calibration devices, this system evaluates and adjusts each printer's performance at the manufacturing stage, ensuring consistent color output from printer to printer and print to print. With both Photo and Matte Black ink cartridges installed simultaneously, the Epson Stylus Pro 900 series printers automatically utilize the optimal black ink mode, delivering maximum black density for the chosen media.

Taking advantage of the Epson MicroPiezo TFP auto-sharing black ink channel ensures a fast and efficient switch. And to further reduce switching errors, the user confirms the switching process from the front control panel. The standard Photo Black ink mode can be used for any media type with professional results. However, for certain Epson media types such as Velvet Fine Art, Enhanced Matte, and UltraSmooth Fine Art, using the optional Matte Black ink mode instead, will dramatically increase your black optical density for even better print quality.

The Epson 7900 is most used by customers who consider themselves to be a Frequent user among others.

So I said, "To hell with that." I saved up the money then purchased a 7900 HDR. I knew this thing was going to be big, but never expected a delivery via 18 wheeler. It arrives on a pallet with a shipping weight of 320#. Do not expect the driver to haul this into your home. The dealer's obligation ends once it is at your address. I got mine from Adorama. They used Oak Harbor Freight to ship it. The huge box arrived in excellent condition considering it travel cross-country. The driver used a hydraulic forklift to roll it into my garage. Peel off all of the labeling in case you need it later. After cutting the shipping straps, one person can lift off the box. It ships without a bottom. Remove the stand box which is on top. Haul it upstairs and assemble it. Now, take a very long look at the shape and size of this head unit. Find the grip points. Think long on how you will need to turn this around and maneuver it through the door and up the stairs. If you don't have arms like Sasquatch and cannot lift 200# above you head, don't even thing about moving this on your own. This is a two man job. I have read online that these units can be turned on-end without damaging the printer. I did that and it was fine. You should place large panels of cardboard on the floor where you will need to pivot the printer at the base of the stairs and at each landing on the way up. One side of the unit is heavier. Position that on the bottom. Two men can lift this thing as long as you don't get cocky. Travel one step at a time. Place the unit on-end at the top of the stairs and pivot it where you need it, then lower it to the floor. Here is where you rest, high-five each other, and shout "You da man!" The stand should be assembled and the wheels locked. Lift the unit and carefully rest it onto the stand. Make sure it is stable before taking your hands off of it. It makes no sense to end up weeping after all of your hard work, not to mention money. Check under the head unit to confirm that the two pegs are inserted into the bottom of the unit. The wing-nut brackets should be aligned with the threaded holes (2). If so, you are done. Tighten the wing-nuts. Now read the @$#@$ manual!

works well in an educational setting. our 7900s are used daily by a student body of 200+. consistent colors, spot on paper profiles and easily maintainable print heads. Consistent Nozzle Checks for low used printers keeps pigments fresh. Download the maintenance manual from the web and fix 95% of issues in house without having to pay the $275/hour Epson Specialist. Advanced B&W feature a plus for B&W output along with the Finest Detail feature for any design work. Each of the 11 print cartridges are quite spendy at $280 retail, but shop around and they can be found for around $215 each.

Professional quality prints .....

By

from Midwest, USA  -  Frequent User

Adoramas free delivery on this printer was so quick that I received it in 23 hrs from order placement. I am very satisfied with this epson 7900, already printed 10, 3 ft large format prints with no hiccups. I always print a test strip before a large print, just in case, the nozzle check uses minimal ink to print, about 1 inch by 7 inches strip. Setup was very quick considering this printer was delivered via 18 wheeler and had to be dragged 1 city block to get to my door. Setup took 1 hour, but I saved a lot time by watching a step by step YouTube video prior to actual setup. On a final note, print quality is out of this world, I always print at 1440 dpi or higher, and always use photoshop or Lightroom to control the color. My work is displayed at several galleries in Chicago, saying that the level of quality I demand is satisfied by this epson 7900 printer.

We use the 7900 to print plans and graphics for our construction business and it is wonderful for that, and high speed. We also have a photographer in house who uses it to create high res prints in archival quality for wall displays and we are very satisfied.

One Awesome Wide Format Printer

By

from Los Angeles, CA  -  Frequent User

I bought this printer for my business, which sells posters of our own artworks to customers. I have shopped and compared around for an ideal 24" wide printer and considered many brands and makes from Canon, HP, and Epson before deciding on this one. The Epson Stylus Pro 7900 seems to offer the best balance between consumption of inks and price of inks. After using it for about a month and printed about 30 some posters, I feel I have made a good decision. The colors are extremely vibrant, especially on high color contrast artworks. The printing speed is actually faster than I originally thought, takes about 10 minutes or so to print out a 24" X 36" poster. Ink consumption is fine but couple that with the price of the ink cartridges it's a good balance. The built-in cutting tool is god-sent. No more worrying about how to cut and trim white edges anymore! Of course, it will still occasionally cut slightly off (a bit of white shown) but I'm hoping Epson will correct that in future driver or firmware updates. The vibration of the machine is decent. It will shift but not as much as I've expected. Don't lean against walls or furniture though! The software control is good. There is some learning curve initially on finding out various features like cutter settings and continuous printing. But once you get a hang of the interface, it's fairly decent. Use print profiles more! It is definitely worth the investment for me. Just wish Epson would include a dust cover for the printer since they have already included a sturdy stand for it. Oh and be sure to buy an entire set of ink cartridges to go with the printer. The cartridges that came with the printer only have enough ink for about 5 24" by 36" poster prints.

Best Printer in the world (imho)

By

from Oneonta, NY  -  Heavy Duty User

This is an amazing printer. I am a professional photographer. I've been printing myself and also using professional labs for many years now and I've never been so consistently impressed by any other printer or lab. I've had the printer for almost three years now and I've never had a problem with it.[...] We run a very high volume satellite studio at a summer camp and this printer makes us look like rock stars. It's never gone down, not even once. I just love it.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Can this machine turned into printing only black. I am looking for color separation machine that prints only black. How good is it for halftone?
JAY M  I am a photographer and print mostly canvas photo's, but since purchasing my printer (9890) I've also started doing indoor banners and signs for customers I didn't have before. The blacks are strong printed on any of Epsons media. Their canvas can be coated with standard hardware store type polyurenthanes. So, yes..you can print only black. J.
Shopper  can you print 23 inch sheets of paper or is it only off rolls?
JAY M  When setting up your print properties you can select roll or sheet paper or canvas or other media. The sheet size selection allows you to print on any size media, even 8.5x11.
Shopper  can the stand on this be removed, or can the printer be pushed lower?
GORDON R  When the printer arrived at my home, it was not on the stand; it had to be placed onto it and essentially bolted onto it. So technically, you can do without it. But you can't place the printer lower on the stand. I haven't tried doing this myself, but it's possible that some makes another stand for this printer.
