About Epson 9900

The Epson Stylus Pro 9900 incorporates the latest achievements in photographic inkjet technology. It combines the precision of MicroPiezo TFP print head with the extraordinary performance of Epson UltraChrome HDR inks. In order to ensure consistent printing between multiple Stylus Pro printers of the same model, Epson has refined the manufacturing process to include colorimetric calibration.

Eliminating the need for internal calibration devices, this system evaluates and adjusts each printer's performance at the manufacturing stage, ensuring consistent color output from printer to printer and print to print. With both Photo and Matte Black ink cartridges installed simultaneously, the Epson Stylus Pro 900 series printers automatically utilize the optimal black ink mode, delivering maximum black density for the chosen media.

Taking advantage of the Epson MicroPiezo TFP auto-sharing black ink channel ensures a fast and efficient switch. And to further reduce switching errors, the user confirms the switching process from the front control panel. The standard Photo Black ink mode can be used for any media type with professional results. However, for certain Epson media types such as Velvet Fine Art, Enhanced Matte, and UltraSmooth Fine Art, using the optional Matte Black ink mode instead, will dramatically increase your black optical density for even better print quality.

My second Epson 44 in printer...

5 years ago I bought an Epson 9900 44 in printer.Yep; I print big photos for wall art. And I loved the prints and the printer BUT... inkjets would frequently clog, and would require a LOT of ink to clear out. The printer has a automatic setting that cleans the heads every time you use it (LOTS more ink) whether it needs it or not. After a long trip away, I returned to a clogged jet that would not clear. Epson service man worked DAYS on it, then declared it unfixable(!?!?). I had no real choice but to buy another. From Epson; $6,000. With Rebate $5,000. I could have bought a refurb from that other big New York camera place(I won't mention their name but their initals are B and H) for $3500(plus $200 shipping), but found a new one on Adorama for $4200 shipping included. And two days later I had it in hand. That other place would have shipped in a couple of weeks. This latest 9900 seems to be more efficient on ink. However I am taking my repair man's advice and running a nozzel check (runs a tiny amount of ink through each jet) EVERY DAY, including weekends/holidays and everyday in between. If you get one of these, beware; it weighs 429 pounds on the truck. You will need lots of help moving it at all. I had to get mine up the stairs and that was a nightmare.

great printer

Use for photo-arts. Prints great, but ink use high.
