printer review

I just purchased this printer this afternoon. After getting software installed I have done a black and white image and 3 high quality photo prints. With nothing else to go on it is very impressive print quality for my first prints. I am excited about owning this printer. Can't wait to print large format and panarama prints. The clarity and detail is outstanding, so impressed. Don

I bought this printer for graphic printing, not for photos, and I print on matte paper, so I don't need the gloss optimizer, but there isn't any way for me to opt out of using that, as far as I can tell. I bought this printer for graphic printing, not for photos, and I print on matte paper, so I don't need the gloss optimizer, but there isn't any way for me to opt out of using that, as far as I can tell. My print settings and printer dialogue box do not look like the one in the booklet and that option isn't given. As a result, I used up all the gloss optimizer in a very short time -- when all the inks were still at about 90% capacity -- and then could not print anymore because that cartridge was empty. This is a pain when I'm trying to get cards printed for an upcoming craft show and I don't need them to be glossy anyway. I have also been unable to get the colors to come true. I'm printing from Adobe Illustrator, and I tried various options for the color management, but none of them look very good, and the blacks in my black line drawings come out gray. Ironically, I have none of these troubles with my cheaper Epson printer, the Workforce 610, nor with my old PhotoStylus 1280, so I assumed I would be as happy with this printer as I have been with those. The Workforce printer can't handle heavy card stock, and even with the lighter card stock, which it will print on, I end up having to clean the printer heads often to keep the print quality up. I had thought that this being a photo printer and more heavy duty, it would give me consistently better print quality, but it's not working out that way. I know Epson wants me to use their papers, but I've never had to resort to that before, and a printer that is so fussy it won't print decently on generic paper is too fussy for me.

Beautiful Prints

from Pacific NW

The printer produces beautiful prints that are ready to be matted and framed. I'm pleased with the results. The only problem is my computer for some reason will not recognize the printer under devices although it will communicate with the printer. I tried updating the driver but that didn't work. I can still print but cannot setup as wireless.

from Lafayett, LA

I got this to replace a very old 2880. So far I love how easy it is to set up and use. We print on both regular photo paper and linen/fine art paper and I love that I don't have to change inks. I also love the snap in the photographic prints.

Excellence Performance

from Overland Park, KS

I am very impressed with the r2000. The ease of setup - both on my iMac and PC is outstanding. The quality of glossy prints easily exceeds what neighborhood and big box stores can offer. Professional printing is not superior to the r2000. I use the r2000 for glossy color prints - 4x6 to 13x19. My clients are very pleased. I can not comment on B&W prints as I use my r2880 for B&W. Overall, I am very pleased and recommend this printer highly. Ink consumption, so far, appears to be well controlled. Actually, ink consumption appears to be better than my r2880, which I used for color prints prior to purchasing the r2000. I have printed several dozen prints to date. The printing speed on quality setting seems just a little slow, but not a deal breaker by any means. With the $250.00 rebate, I consider the r2000 an outstanding purchase.

Love my new printer

from Readsboro, VT

This is a great printer to reproduce art work in high res on specialty papers.

The best

from Memphis, TN

I have been using Epson Photo Stylus models for 10 years and this is my latest upgrade. The colors are beautiful and make my pressed flower pictures look real to the point that people touch the card to see how I got the flowers into the paper! My only issue is that I am constantly trying to tone down the green on this printer. Compared to the 1900, the green is too bright and I haven't figured out yet how to balance it. Otherwise, I am convinced Epson puts out the best color printer on the planet.

Nothing But Epson

from Charleston ,South Carolina

I am an avid Epson user ,I have 5 printers 3 Artisans 2 Stylus ,I won't use anything else. My prints have kept me on the "Map" and won't chance them to anything else. Thanks Epson

Epson R2000 Experience

from Riverside, California

Thus far I find this to be a good quality Inkjet printer. Both the output quality and speed are very acceptable. I would like to see expanded interface that actually shows all the available papers instead of a substitution list and a much lost cost for ink.

Pleasantly Surprised

from Appleton, Wisconsin

I was very nervous to purchase this printer. I have had poor experiences with cheaper epson's in the past. The reviews on this one were mixed but so far it has been a DREAM! I use it to print archive quality art prints of my illustrations. the Ink usage is good as well. I get about 100 8" x 10" prints out of a pack of ink.

problems with r2000

from Canton, GA

This is my 3rd R2000 I just received, and I have had problems with them all. The first and 3rd has a pop half way thru the printing. All have had problems with 13 x 19 paper. I load paper correctly, and I get printer busy, paper jam, etc. When it does print, after many tries, the print finally does come out decent.

Another quality Epson printer

from Troy, MI  -  Frequent User

I use the printer for printing photos to display in my house and for friends, occasionally for pay. It's my 3d wide-carriage Epson (13"). The first two died after several years of use each, so I'm satisfied with durability. Printed three 12 X 16's and 50 4 X 6's and the cyan cartridge is only down by a quarter; the others are show less than an eighth gone. Printed on Epson matte and Pro-Master Ultra Premium Pearl, so did not use the gloss optimizer. I used Elements 13 to edit and Qimage to print, with a calibrated monitor. Results closely matched the screen, but with more detail! Faster and quieter than my previous Epson 1400 and 1280, and it looks like the ink cartridges will be lasting considerably longer too. Installation a breeze, more paper choices and paths than I'm likely to use. Highly recommended. Printed an album of Jamaica vacation pictures for my girlfriend that wowed the folks at her office. Looking forward to printing some monochromes. I use and Epson all in one for everyday text and graphics printing.

Questions about this item:

Marcie W  How many prints (8x10) can I get out of this before needing to change the ink?
HENRY G  Since each color is an individual cartridge of equal volume, that totally depends on the subject matter, the colors used and the total coverage.
lois P  are the ink cartridges larger than on the r 1800 or r1900?
PATRICIA G  I don't recall whether they were larger or smaller but they were a different size.
Diane J  Are all the prints glossy. What if I want a Matt finish?
