V600 Photo Scanner Comments

I have been using my scanner for about a month and totally enjoy it. It produces the excellent results that it has stated in brochures. I would recommend this unit to anyone that wants to transfer slides or negatives into digital pictures.

I'm using this scanner ...

I'm using this scanner for home photos and although the quality is good, it's much too slow as I can only scan one photo at a time. I have tooooo many to scan and it's taking forever.

Works Great

I'm using this scanner mostly to scan medium format film. It's very easy to setup and use. I think it's a very good value at this price point.

Be Aware This Scanner Will Not Scan Contact Sheets

By

from Los Angeles, CA, USA

Does an excellent job scanning transparencies and negatives but transparency light in lid is only 2.9'' X 9.5". You can not scan full 8" X 10" contact sheets with this scanner, you must upgrade to the V700 to be able to do that. I didn't catch this in the specifications before i bought it and ended up giving it away and buying the V700. Disappointing... my old Epson Perfection 4990 Photo scanned 8" X 10" transparencies and negatives before its belt mechanism broke.

beware rebuilds

By

from nanuet, ny

I read great things about this scanner. I found the best price to come from Epson as a rebuild. I figured what I could I lose: I wasn't buying a used machine from someone who might have abused it; I was buying something the company itself was putting its reputation behind. Mistake. This machine must have slipped passed quality control the first time. When I got it (primarily to scan thousands of negatives I'd accumulated in the pre-digital age), it worked fine for about 20 negs, as advertised: fast, sharp, precise. Then it went haywire. For two strips of six negs each, it scanned only five. I tried several times. I went back to rescan the first negative strips that I had scanned successfully. Those scans also showed up incomplete. In addition, I wasn't getting accurate composition: parts of two adjacent negatives rather than one negative comprised each negative scan. I emailed support. It sent me back to the manual, which I had read and understood. I called support. The agent led me through a diagnostic routine, then determined there was a hardware problem and set up the process for me to get another machine. Disappointing, to be sure. But the response from Epson was good. I thought the agent with whom I was dealing said I'd be getting a new machine, which was an even better deal. As it turned out, it was going to be another rebuilt job. I said I wanted a new one; I wanted to return the first machine and get a credit. Epson said that, for a rebuild, it couldn't be done; all rebuild sales were final. So now I'm waiting for another rebuild -- Epson is paying for the reshipment of the defective machine back to the company -- and hoping for the best. I just hope I don't get stuck with another lemon and eventually winding up paying double what I expected for a good scanner.

So far I really enjoy it as it is much faster than the old one and has more features. The machine scanned pictures and negatives with no problem. I will be scanning positives in the near future. It is easy to use. Terry

Great Scanner for Photos

By

from Twin Mountain, NH

I recently decided to find a scanner for my use in digitizing all my family photos that I've acquired over the years. I wanted one that would produce top quality images and also allow for some basic editing. After doing my research, I settled upon the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner as the best combination of price, quality, and functionality. So far I have digitized about 150 photos and done some touch-ups of about 50 of them, and I am very pleased with the results. The learning curve is pretty short; the scanner is very user-friendly, and the results are excellent. It fits my needs perfectly. I have not come across any negatives with this scanner.

Dependable workhorse.

By

from Orange, CA, USA

I use my scanner just about every day with my iMac and Photoshop for documenting vintage dog show magazines and memorabilia. I even used it to reproduce color transparencies from the 1940's and 1950's that had never been seen before and I was able to share them with thousands of fanciers on Facebook. It does an amazing job and my Epson scans can be tweaked to, well, perfection. I bought my first Epson Scanner in 1994 with my first Macintosh computer. That scanner came bundled with Photoshop 3.0 and I have been a loyal customer with Apple, Adobe and Epson ever since. This scanner is superb. (BTW my scanner in 1994 cost tens times as much as the V600!)

Used the scanner now for about a week. Very easy to set up and scan with. I have scanned at least 450 photos. They all came out vivid and crisp. Very easy to use with the software included with the scanner.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
RAUL H  Best scanner I ever have. Great for scanning 35 mm negatives and transparencies. Easy to use and a top performer.
Shopper  Comparison with epson 500 ?
JOHN B  I do not have any experience with the 500. I purchased the 600 and cannot provide a comparison. I will say that I am pleased with my selection and the product operates as advertised. I can add that the Adorama customer service people were very helpful in providing me sufficient information for me to make my selection. Thanks for asking, john
Shopper  do not know how to load 2 1/4 film?
RONALD J  Remove the reflective sheet from the inside of the scanner cover. Insert 120 or 220 film into the medium format film holder by lifting the rather flimsy film tray cover and sliding in the film, shiny side down. Close the tray cover to hold the film in place, and place the film holder on the glass so the black tab on the left fits into the slot to the left of the glass. Then close the scanner cover.
