About Fujifilm 23mm F/1.4 Mirrorless

Fuji X-F 23mm (35MM) F1.4R Lens

Since when did a wide-angle lens mean you have to limit the quality and crispness of your wide-angle photos? Meet the Fuji X-F 23 MM (35MM) F1.4R Lens, a lens capable of everything from up-close-and-personal shots to working in low light conditions. Here’s how it pulls it off:

Product Highlights

  • A fast, f/1.4 aperture allows you to work in low-light conditions, which means plenty of night landscape shots, sunsets, and live events at night. Don’t put away your Fuji X-F 23mm wide angle lens simply because the sun’s going down.
  • Get up close and personal with tight focusing control and a minimum focus distance of 11”, which is notable for a wide angle lens usually designed for other types of shots.
  • The high-torque coreless autofocus motor will ensure that you take beautiful, well-focused shots every time while the AF works in the background. It’s fast, quiet, and offers a consistency in precision you expect from a high-quality autofocus.

When you’ve got a lot to capture with a photograph, you switch to a wide-angle lens. But if you want your wide-angle lens to capture even more, it may be time to switch to the Fuji X-F 23mm.

Learn about the Fuji X-F 23mm (35MM) F1.4R Lens

If life is all about perspective, then there’s no better example of that than the Fuji X-F 23 MM (35MM) F1.4R Lens. This wide-angle lens provides an equivalent focal length of the aforementioned 35mm, giving you all of the beautiful wide-angle perspective you need to provide truly stunning and original images of everything from common household items to live events.

Life may be all about perspective, but the more you learn about this unique lens, the more you find out that photography echoes that same sentiment. Little details here, such as the 23mm lens, provide plenty of function even in low-light conditions. The shallow field depth allows you to select your focus with more style and panache than you would with any ordinary lens, and the manual focus control allows you to customize a picture to suit your individual artistic taste.

In short, this Fuji X-F 23mm lens is not your ordinary lens. So let’s take a minute to examine all of the features that give this lens its extraordinary capabilities:

  • Wide field of view and a wide-open aperture make for more comprehensive shots. The wide-angle lens is 23mm, delivering a 35mm-equivalent field of view. This enhances every photo you take and allows you to fit more into the frame, creating the classic “wide angle” effect that is so desired by photographers everywhere. And the f/1.4 maximum aperture allows you to shoot even in low-light conditions, which includes night events like wedding receptions where the lighting isn’t set up to your standards.
  • Get up close and personal. With the focus, that is. The focus control on the Fuji X-F 23mm lens really allows you to tinker with your image, offering a high degree of customization and focus quality. You can focus at a minimum distance of 11”, allowing you to take intimate portrait shots if you so desire. That’s a lot of range for a wide-angle lens.
  • Autofocus that’s truly automatic. A good autofocus should be quick, precise, and silent—after all, there’s nothing worse than being a professional photographer and letting your autofocus broadcast its presence to your subjects. This high-torque DC features a coreless autofocus motor that delivers on all of the discretion that every autofocus should display.
  • Image sharpness. A wide-angle lens like the Fuji X-F 23mm lens won’t always be known for its image sharpness. That’s a shame, because the aspherical element will minimize chromatic aberrations in order to resolve an image that’s smooth, sharp, and crisp. Don’t limit your color palette just because you’re using a wide-angle lens.
  • High quality with a wide angle. You know what else you don’t need to sacrifice with a wide-angle lens? The lens clarity. The lens distortion here has been reduced by using optical (and not digital) correction. This gives you a depth of field that doesn’t appear warped, but rather professional and seamless.

Perfect for amateur photographers who love taking landscapes and every day photos, but quality enough for professionals who need to work wide angle lenses in low light, the Fuji X-F 23 MM (35MM) F1.4R Lens is one of the more capable wide-angle lenses you’ll ever encounter. You can also procure, here at Adorama, a Fuji X-T1, delivering the same high quality you expect from a trusted name like Fuji.

From the Manufacturer
The FUJINON XF23mm F1.4 R has a focal length equivalent of a 35mm lens, and is ideal for a wide range of applications including portraits and landscapes, as well as everyday photography. The fast maximum aperture of F/1.4 allows users to shoot hand-held in low light conditions and achieve sharp images, while also delivering beautiful bokeh for artistic images.

The FUJINON XF23mm F1.4 R provides enhanced resolving power with crisp contrast to draw maximum performance out of the highly descriptive X-Trans CMOS sensor. The fast F/1.4 aperture allows the user to reduce blurring in low light conditions and achieve stunning shallow depth to field photography.

The FUJINON XF23mmF1.4 R features a camera-to-subject distance indicator and a depth-of-field scale on the barrel. Both are useful when manually pre-focusing to capture a fast moving subject, or minimize the shutter lag to capture a fleeting moment.

Lens distortion has been reduced to an absolute minimum using only optical rather than digital correction, thereby delivering the highest possible picture quality. The rounded seven-blade diaphragm ensures smooth bokeh even when shooting portraits or product shots at a medium aperture to maintain reasonable depth-of-field.

The FUJINON XF23mmF1.4 R uses an internal focusing system which incorporates a lens group consisting of three cemented lens elements and one aspheric lens element in order to keep weight down. Additionally, the built-in high-torque DC coreless motor delivers ultra-fast AF performance for the most demanding shooting opportunities.

All lens elements are treated with Fujifilm's multilayer HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) which delivers enhanced durability and ensures an even spread of light across the sensor.

The FUJINON XF23mmF1.4 R weighs 10.6oz and measures just 2.84" in length making it the most compact and lightweight lens in its class. Metal parts are used for the focus and aperture rings, which are designed to give just the right amount of torque and feel.

One of the best - Even wide open

By

from Aiken, SC  -  Pro Photographer

When paired with an X-T1, this lens rocks the house. Focus is fast and accurate, even at f1.4. Colors look great. Mainly used for weddings, events, and personal use. It seems a little pricey, but its the best option out there for this focal length and speed.

Amazing lens

By

from New York, NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

I'm not a professional photographer so as far as anything technical, I can't give a great critique but I am an artist/designer and I know what looks good. This lens makes all my photos look good. I also own a Nikon dSLR with some pretty decent lenses but after shooting with this one on my X-E2, the Nikon has been sitting in the closet. The quality of the pictures are really remarkable.

A "Must Buy" for Lens for FujiFilm shoot

By

from Los Angeles  -  Photo Enthusiast

Although often labeled as a street photography lens, I've been equipping my X-E2 with this lens for hiking day trips and very pleased with the prime. The size/weight is just at the border of heavy, but the trade off is tack sharp captures partnered with a creamy bright bokeh at F/1.4 (and everything in between). Especially appreciate the option to go into manual focus mode with a turn of a dial and a pull of the lens back for more precise focusing. This lens is basically staying on my camera 90% of the time now.

Great lens

By

from South Carolina  -  Pro Photographer

This is peerfect for street and candid photography. With the X Pro 1 it is fantastic because the sensor is outstanding in low light. It took some adjustments getting used to the push/pull function to turn on /off AF. But once I fully adjust to it will be worth a 5 star rating. I have discovered using the eye piece with macro mode turned on make the experience more like a DSLR especially for critical focusing in low light.

Awesome lens.

By

from Rockville, MD  -  Photo Enthusiast

Sharp, light, great image quality. Can't really ask for more, except maybe lower price (but this lens is unique, so I do think that it is priced fairly). For me, the 35mm equivalent works much better than the 50mm equivalent because it is wider, but not too wide, and more versatile.

Sharp wide open..Bokehlicous..SP Ideal

By

from Menifee  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The price on this Fujinon XF 23mm 1.4 lens is a bit high but competitive with the other alternatives out on the market such as the Zeiss Touit 35mm 1.8. This however gives you the equivalent of 35mm on full frame sensor. This is ideal for my portraiture shots as it gives a creamy bokeh to the background making the subject pop out!! Very sharp on the edges at widest aperture. This very fast lens is ideal for low light condition. The 35mm equivalent makes this very ideal for street photography as well, taking in all the elements/details when you press the shutter. The weight and feel gives the lens a high quality feel. I love the pull/push focus ring which allows you to transition from manual to auto focusing in a snap. Great all around lens for me.

Very Nice Lens

By

from Westchester County NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

I have taken a couple of hundred frames with this lens and so far I can find very little that I don't like. It is very sharp corner to corner, responsive in focus and and bokeh is excellent. Love the 35mm equivalent focal length and the aperture ring. It feels like an old AIS Nikkor lens in my hands and that is the reason I purchased the Xe2 and the lens to begin with.

Almost perfect

By

from Minneapolis, MN  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Fujinon XF lens in 23mm focal length was overdue for a long time. I just wish Fujifilm introduced it earlier. It is a very good lens. The build quality is much better than with other Fujinon XF lenses. However, it is also bigger and heavier than similar lenses and it makes the X mount cameras look very big. Even though I am not a huge fan of Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R, I started appreciating that lens even more after I had a chance to use the 23mm lens. The lens hood that came with it is huge and the lens cap is a joke (it keeps popping off and it's easy to lose it). Given the size of hte lens, the new filter diameter is 62 mm so all filters you have to other Fujinon XF mount lenses will not work on this one. So it creates an added expense. Finally, it's also very expensive. i think that the size and the price are the biggest drawbacks. Optical quality and build are very good.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  how much does lens weigh?
MICHAEL A  While you can find the exact weight in the lens specs, I can tell you that it's LIGHT. After using Nikon lenses, these little Fujifilm lenses were surprisingly lightweight and small. No doubt, with it attached, there's still a lens on the camera body but it's as compact and lightweight as you could hope for.
Shopper  is this fits eos canon?
MICHAEL S  NO - It's Fuji X-mount. To use this lens on a Canon you will need an adapter. Search on Google (or call Adorama), to learn if such an adapter exists.
