If you don't use a computer a lot, this is a good purchase. If you are just going to check your e-mail daily or do something else that requires maybe just an hour or two of use, then this is a good choice. However, I have to use my computer for business, and it just doesn't work. The computer gets slow and tired after about 2-3 hours of use (in any form), and has to spend a considerable amount of time resting-- turned off. I have been working with HP on fixing it, but overall, I think it is just the computer. I'm very disappointed overall.

I purchased this laptop 1.5 years ago when I retired. It has not left my home, and I was very happy unitl the LED screen broke and is not replaceable for an affordable price. I did not drop this laptop. I did not abuse this laptop. To look at it, it looks brand new. I spent extra money thinking I would have a laptop to last for a few years...now I am back in the market and HP is not at the top of the list.

I'm a few weeks into using my new HP laptop. So far mostly so good. There were a few quirks that I had to call customer service about. The finger scanner is nice, but it automatically turns itself off when the device sleeps, and then doesn't wake up until you reboot. You can change the power use settings under device manager, but not when you pull up biometric devices. Overall it seems like a good laptop, but some of those "features" and non-intuitive interfaces cost me a couple hours of tech-support (who were friendly and helpful, but there's still annoying hold time).

It appears the dm4 models seem to have trouble with the touchpads. Mine was no exception. I got my laptop at 3 pm on a Saturday and by noon on Monday it wasn't working. I updated drivers, flashed BIOS...nothing. It is shipping back today. I don't know if I'll get another one. :(

I am a college student, and I bought this computer right before my freshmen year. I have had this laptop for less than a year and a half and have had 2 major problems with it as well as minor ones i ignored like the speakers fading in and out all the time. The harddrive crashed after having it for only 8 months. Which since it was under warranty HP customer service was very helpful and sent me a new one. Now it is has overheated and melted my mother board! So less than a year and a half later I am having to buy another computer! As soon as warranty is up these computers start falling apart real cool HP... Do not buy this computer!

I have had this note book for almost month now and it is excellent... the screen size is perfect, portable and great for music, battery life is about 3.5 to 4 hours.. good for school and business. One thing i love the most is the hp simple pass feature, because i hate loging into my accounts. i have the steel gray dm4 intel core i3 , and i have no problems with it. touch pad is great. keys, great super light. my best investment for $600 the only down fall is not GETTING A WARRANTY on it because i lacked enough money and it was too expensive ($120 on HP.com) If you should buy this product GET A WARRANTY at a office depot or Best Buy. I love HP now, and plan on buying more products.. othery thant that 5 out of 5...nuff rambling....

I rated this laptop overall a "Good Purchase" because when I received the item there was already a dead pixel as well as something wrong with the screen like as if someone was keeping their finger on it and making that weird "screen blur". also where you eject cds from the computer, its a little loose, im guessing from the shipping but everything else I cannot explain. Other then that, for the price it is a great computer. PS: right after I bought the computer, they had a "deal of the month" with better everything for pretty much what I had paid for mine. If I would've known this was going to happen, I would've waited a week to get the good promotion.

This computer allows you to work on planes even in Economy seating for hours due to its 14 inch screen and long battery life. So far, the new computer battery life has been in excess of 8 hours with the WLAN turned off and just doing web browsing over a wired LAN and writing documents. My selection criterion was at least 4 hours of battery life so I expect this computer to run for at least this long even when the machine is several years old. The battery still lasts at least 7 hours with the WLAN turned on. My main complaint is the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. It works but has several characteristics I find annoying. First, when you setup your user account for the first time, Windows sets you up with administrator rights. You should create a second account that has less access permissions that you will use for everyday chores for protection against malware. Secondly, if you need to login to a Windows domain, then you must purchase one of the Windows 7 Professional editions because the Home editions do not allow users to specify a domain. Third, I don't like the soft edged translucent window borders of the default Aero theme. Fortunately this can be changed in the personalization settings to provide classic window styles. Bottom line is that I am happy with the computer as a whole despite my personal preferences for a different operating system.

I've been a Mac user for about four syear now and after deciding I needed a new laptop for college I decided to give HP a try; since it was the last PC brand I had used. This one seemed like a good choice with the specs to price ratio. I use it to write papers, listen to music, do homework, and some social networking sites. The finger print reader works very well and is a time saver. I haven't had any issues with the mouse pad. The computer does occasionally freeze if I open up too many programs (I multi-task like crazy). I'd recommend this product to anyone needing a laptop for college but doesn't want to spend a ridiculous amount.

The HP Pavilion dm4-2050 is light not bulky. Very convenient to use, because it has almost 8 hour of battery life. Has amazing graphic cababilty, which I need for my advertising business. Overall, it is a good value for the money I paid.
