I bought this Envy at a computer store. (eg. Staples....) I have had it since early November of 2012 and got it at a great price. Overall looks great, nice finish, runs perfect, never stalls, very fast, very good sturdy construction-build and the Dr. Dre Beats Audio Speaker System rocks. You can adjust the equalizer to perfection. Pair it with Norton 360 after the trial of Internet Security expires and a Logitech M510 wireless laser mouse and you'll be all set. Enjoy it!!!

Really like this laptop. Had it up and running in just a few minutes. It starts quickly, pages load very fast and if a page does freeze, was able to correct quickly. The keyboard is great and has a very good feel. Screen is good size and very clear. Videos work great. Had somewhat of a learning curve with Windows 8 though. And really missed the "Start" button. I started reading reviews and blogs on Windows 8 and found a way to add one. It works great! I don't like some of the software that was included, but was able to delete very easily. Overall, am very satisfied - with laptop and HP. Used the live chat...was quick, easy and all my questions were answered immediately. Have some problems with Microsoft though....

I purchased this laptop to replace an aging laptop that was getting too wore out to run today's software. I had major problems getting the wireless adapter card in this model to work. It would constantly disconnect even if I was sitting next to the router. Tech Support tired to fix the problem with no fix. I finally messed around and I found a cure and now the wireless adapter hardly ever loses the wireless connection. This model has plenty of power and performance as I am a power user, meaning I have lots of windows open while I work in several software programs at once. I also like that the cooling fans keep this laptop cool. In fact this laptop runs far cooler than the old one I have. No more well done thighs for me. My only major complaint is that this model does not have a back lit keyboard. With the case being all black it gets really hard to see the keyboard on dark days. I purchased a USB LED light that works off the USB port which cured the dark keyboard problem. Plus I love the HD screen as the colors and imagines all look great. Netflix and Hulu movies all look as good on my laptop as they do on my HDTV. I miss not having a second hard drive built into this laptop but I will be getting an external hard drive to fix that problem. I refuse to keep back up photos, drivers, and other important data on the same hard drive that Windows is installed on. Overall this laptop is a good desktop replacement and it can be used on the go as well.

simply put this is a great computer. Unless you are heavy into graphics, 3D games, downloading tons of stuff, or seriously running more than a dozen programs simultaneously I don't see why you'd need any other computer. Yea, the I7 processor is bigger, badder better but most folks won't, don't need it. This computer did have some bugs I had to work out and learning about it. Not to mention that I never used windows 8 before this. It did not take me long however to appreciate what a work of art this is. When I first got this I wondered if it would perform to my hopes and expectations but instead it has far exceeded them.

The HP Envy dv7-7240us is a fine product. It has solid construction, great features, and great performance. At this time it is working fine. I will say that there were some bugs for me to get it to run, mostly due to application software that came bundled with the unit: The pre-installed Norton Internet Security would block Homegroup networking and some other file sharing between PCs from working. After I uninstalled Norton, and reverted to Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, networking is working. The pre-installed CyberLink PowerDVD prevented Windows Media Player from writing to DVD. The system would complain that the blank DVD's were not writable. After I uninstalled PowerDVD, Windows Media Player can write DVDs. This solution was provided by the HP support desk. HP Backup and Recovery would not create the recovery disks. The 24 hour HP support desk helped me resolve these issues, and the unit is running fine now. We are happy with it.

The Envy runs much slower than I anticipated and slower than the previous dv7s I have owned. But, I understand from tech support that it may be due to Windows 8. I have problems with the keyboard as it will not record the key strokes that I believe I am making. As a result HP is going to change out the keyboard.
