HP Scanjet G4050 does not work.

from Dedham, ME  -  Frequent User

Bought this scanner to copy the hundreds of old slides of family and outdoor activities. My computer has Windows 7 Home premium operating system. The software for the scanner will not load. HP tech service was of no help. They do not have a driver that is compatible with this system. I have to use my old Windows XP laptop, which is much slower than my "new" one.

Questions about this item:

Cindy B  can I scan a 4x6 negative?
TODD H  Yes. I have scanned several 4x6 and 5x7 negatives (film and glass plate) by placing them directly on the glass with the emulsion down.
Linda W  does is scan to OCR (for scanning printed material)?
ALLEN L  Not sure what OCR is. But, can tell you that the scanner does not work with my "new computer", which has Windows 7 Home Premium op system. HP was of no help. Suggestions about what to do implied that I didn't know what I was doing. Never did get it to load the software. I had to use my old laptop with Windows XP (10 years old), in order to copy my slides. It does a good job of finding all 16 slides and converting them ti jpeg files, but did not work correctly when I tried to copy old Polaroid photos. My inexpensive HP F4580 all in one can copy 6 photos at a time.
George B  How long does it take to scan a 35mm negative?
ROBERT H  It depends on the resolution I scan most negetives at 600 and they take about 2 minutes per frame and another factor is if you have any auto repairs made on the negative dust removal, color correction etc. It does a good job I use it on an old computer with windows xp.
