Jams jams jams

Pros: Looks, software, easy to clear jams Cons: jams if more than 8 pages are inserted. Scan button on the device itself is tricky for users that don't read the little screen. I work in the health industry and we use hp scanners in our EMR system. we have been using hp scanners for over 16 years and I love hp scanners but since they released the 3000 series, we have issues left and right. The 3000 s1 was complete garbage and we quickly stopped ordering them. shortly after, they released the 3000 s2. They are 500 times better than the S1 but we soon ran into a common problem. They all started to jam if you place more than 8 pages on the feeder. anything lower it works great. we are now ordering the pricier 5000 model and they are so reliable that finance doesn't give us a hard time when they see the invoice.

Excellent, except one bug

Fast, duplex scanner. Very fast in 300 DPI text mode, all other modes (e.g., 400+ DPI, B&W or color image) much slower. It seems the hardware is optimized for a document text scanner. Not a problem, just be aware. One bug: There is a "scan" button on the scanner that does not work. It should work so you put in the document, push the scan button, put in the next document.... You have to use the scan button on your computer screen. I use Mac OS X, that may be the problem. Lots of complaints on-line about the scan button not working on many HP scanners using Mac OS. It's a darn nuisance, as this problem has been known to HP for at least 3-4 years. If there are solutions to this, I will post it here and improve my rating. Aside from that one bug, this $400 class scanner equals or out outperforms much more expensive document scanners at work. I highly recommend it! It would get 5 stars, or more if I could, if the scan button worked.

jams

got 1 because description had said it was reliable feeder- but it jams badly (pulls 4 pages through at once) if either using legal or 'used' paper vs freshly printed, etc. The vertical feed 'pull from bottom' approach seems to be bad design to me- (my $80 hp4500 AiO flatbed seems to work better than this $400 purpose built model-although a lot slower). To give it credit- while it initially jammed even with very clean letter size paper, I did get it working pretty well in that 'perfect environment'- but who has perfect as their environment on a daily basis?

Great Speed, 2-sided Scanning

I work in a government office and have one of these next to my desktop. It blazes through scans really quickly. The only issue I have had is when I am trying to scan too much and it will grab too many sheets. Really easy to open the cover and remove the bound pages....then refeed a smaller amount through the scanner. Works great though!
