The Hybrid AF System is the fastest in the world, so your images will be crystal clear, whether you're shooting a soaring bird or a fidgety child. The shutter fires at a blazing speed up to 15 shots per second continuously so you can freeze even the fastest moving subjects.

The best moments are made (and missed) in an instant. But imagine being able to slow down an important moment to see live action in slow motion. With the Nikon 1 J3 camera's amazing Slow View mode, that's exactly what happens. Slow down what you're seeing on the LCD, then select the shot you want. Combine that with Smart Photo Selector, which fires 20 shots with a single shutter press and selects the best five for you, and you've got every advantage for catching those once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Add artistic flare with the camera's Creative Mode shoot in black & white, highlight a single color in an image, create expansive panoramas and more. You can even preview your shots before you take them with the Live Image Controls.

Like all Nikon cameras, the Nikon 1 J3 performs brilliantly in low light. Not for low lights

I bought this mainly for its high speed shooting capability So far, more than 7000 pictures were taken with this set. The battery life exceeds my expectation. It can last about 1500 shots with the following setups: turned off flash, set the LCD display to low, fine JPG (highest resolution) , continuous shot (5 fps). Mostly are manual and shutter priority. The battery has been charged 4 times during this period of time. The performance/quality for outdoor sports when there is good lights are good, and meets my expectations. The performance/quality for indoor sports (or low light) is not good, but was anticipated before I decide to buy. ISO 800 and above show obvious grain. Manual focus is difficult, for example, I find it difficult to focus on a panther behind the cage, or a fish in a tank, a rain-drop in a leaf where manual focus is preferred. I like the size, which is another reason I bought it. I can use it more in daily casual situation. The review is for this set only (Nikon 1 J3 with the 10-30mm, f/3.5-5.6 lense). I would give it a 4 star if the set were J3 with the 18.5mm, f/1.8 lense.

Love the camera, but...

I purchased the J3 to replace a P&S I had that got the LCD ruined. The J3 takes great photos for the most part. There can be quite a bit of grain at higher ISOs, and sometimes the results are muddy in low-light situations, no matter how you tweak the settings (I've noticed this mostly in sunrise/sunset photos where flash is not used.) My main complaint is that the bulb function is unusable. There is no radio/optical remote function. The only option for a remote is the WU-1b wireless adapter. While this gets you connected to a smart phone or tablet pretty reliably (at least it does for me), the WMUA software completely ignores any settings you made in the camera and goes pretty much full auto. It even ignores the camera being set for manual focus. What this means for the bulb setting is that there is no remote. Once you tap the picture button in WMUA, it takes the picture at the shutter speed it has determined, and you have no control over when the shutter closes again. I knew the basic limits of the camera when I purchased it - no hot shoe for off-camera flash, limited number of lenses, no exterior controls for some of the important bits, etc - but I did expect the features that were there to be usable. Bulb mode is not usable if you have to hold the button down to get an exposure longer than 30sec and introduce a substantial amount of camera shake. Also, I don't understand why pressing the right side of the circle control doesn't let you go over to ISO in addition to shutter and aperture rather than having to dig through a menu. Seeing as how those three controls are the most important ones for controlling exposure, it seems like that would be an easy enough bit of firmware to implement. Just about everything else I set and forget so going into a menu every once in a while to adjust it isn't a big deal, but frequently and repeatedly going into a menu to find the right ISO setting for the situation is kind of a hassle. So, I do recommend this camera overall, I love taking pictures with it, but there are some caveats as to its overall functionality.

Great Semi-Pro Camera!

This camera is awesome! For those who dont know how to set up ISO shutter speed and stuff like that the auto mode is great! this camera's flash is actually really good! it doesnt make everything white with dark backgrounds. Definately worth the buy. One thing though... The 10-100 lens is SOOO big that when at the lowest zoom position it casts a round shadow on the lower part of the shot when you use flash. if you zoom in a bit it does show anymore but you have to stand back.

It might be little but its great!

Going from a large SLR camera was hard at first; but it was all up hill from there. Great quality on both the pictures and the viedos. A fast high speed storage media card is a plus for those videos. The 10mm by 110mm lens would be ideal. A great little camera that is very easy to use.

just a nice piece of equipment

pictures taken during vacation

very happy

personal use really like it
