The Nikon CoolPix P100 combines high-speed shooting capability and an enormous focal range in a compact 'bridge-style' digicam. Sporting the low profile of a compact DSLR, the Nikon P100 can knock out up to 10 full-resolution images-per-second of subjects close and far through the P100's fixed 26-678mm equivalent lens. For applications that require even faster capture rates, the P100 can also shoot up to 120 fps at 1.1MP. Basically, if you can see it, you can shoot it.
The P100 utilizes backside illumination technology that enables the camera sensor to capture and display more detail and tone than conventional CMOS sensors. Combined with Nikon's Backlit Scene HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, the images captured by the diminutively-sized CoolPix P100 will truly blow you away. Video shooters will appreciate the P100's ability to capture dynamic 1080p HD video at 30 fps complete with stereo sound and HDMI output.
Other features found in the CoolPix P100 include a bright 3" (460,000-dot) LCD, a 5-Way VR image stabilization system for maintaining sharp pictures under the lowest of lighting conditions, and ISO sensitivities up to 3200. The P100 also features Nikon's Smart Portrait System, which makes easy work out of taking flattering portraits, along with a host of in-camera shooting modes and retouching tools. And for macro aficionados the Nikon CoolPix P100 can focus down to 0.4".

Have the camera a couple of years take good photos I notice in move mode when using the zoom the picture shakes from the motor. I contacted Nikon customer service even though its out of warranty and they had me send a sample. They reply was that was normal but if i wanted it fixed it would cost me .If its normal why would it need to be fixed? I do not think nikon designed a camera to have the lens shake when using the zoom. I've been thinking about moving up to a D-SLR but after reading about the horrible customer service on the oil spotting on the D 600 I'll look at Canon. i would feel confident if nikon would fix or replace the defect.
Japanese products instructions used to be laughably unclear. Now they are written in excellent Englisg, and very easy to understand. The instructions only add to an excellent product.
I have had this camera for just under a year and I can't believe the quality of the pictures. I have taken every kind of photos imaginable from macro to moonless nightshots and have gotten consistently excellent shots. There has been the odd hiccup here and there, but so has all my other electronics, but not enough to not recommend this camera to my friends. Don't listen to the naysayers, just buy this camera. You won't regret it.
Use camera for reference photos for landscape painting. If the light is right have even gotten some very nice bird photos.
The Nikon Coolpix P100 is a great camera. I sought the zoom capabilities and ease of using the auto pre-set modes and manual modes. I have shot 7000 photos in the past year since purchase utilizing every setting imaginable. I love this camera for a point and shoot. I entered 8 photos in the local fair this year and took 3 first place and 1 third place ribbon. I am hooked on Nikon and will be purchasing a D7000 or D5100 this next spring!
This is a great, camera i would recommend this as a "first camera" for anyone who is an aspiring photographer. I am an avid photographer, though i am just starting out under aprenticeship of my mother, i say that choosing this camera to get started was one of the best decisions i have made as a photographer. The camera has great quality and great features including the 26x zoom, and the manual mode is great, which is where my camera stays set most of the time. although the manual mode is wonderful, i wish the camera had two scroll wheels, each separate for aperture and shutter speed, but all is well. Team Nikon forever!
love this camera was handy while out of the country while not carrying a large camera, does have a great zoom feature, you can zoom all the way and then once there, zoom more and more... pretty cool feature....
I love my Nikkon so so so mucht!!! It's easy, it's perfect image! It's NIkkon!
I bought this camera for my wife. She has been delighted with the pictures she has taken with it.Nikon did a great job designing this unit.I would recommend the P100 for anyone looking for a great camera to learn with, even as a backup if you wanted one. HB
I did a thorough survey on the web about similar cameras in the same price range. I found that the Coolpix P100 had the features that I wanted, a great zoom (26x), the sports pic function does amazing feats with moving objects; also the time interval between photos was 1st class and so was power up time. I have been playing with the camera for some weeks now, and it does amazing things. For starters, the camera comes loaded with neat features. Low light photo has always been a problem area for all cameras, some introduce more noise than others, I found that the P100 CMOS sensitivity was the best when compared to other cameras in the same price brackets, I’ve tested it and found that night time photos are stunning. The only flaw that I see is that the autofocus sensor sometimes has a hard time when you zoon in to objects that are anyway to close, but you can overcome this with the macro function, so you can take the photo anyway. I love the sports mode, my dog can’t be still for a second, the sports mode takes care of that in an amazing way, the photos are just brilliant. There are cameras out there that do more, but also cost more, in the end I don’t like expensive things just because they are expensive, if you are an amateur, but serious about photography then Functionality vs Price is the key… and the Coolpix P100 delivers great Value!
