About Nikon S30

The Nikon Coolpix S30 Digital Camera (Blue) boasts a 10.1 effective MP CCD sensor and EXPEED C2 image processing engine for superior image quality. It's equipped with a 3x optical zoom NIKKOR glass lens with a focal length of 4.1 - 12.3mm (29.1 - 87.3mm 35mm equivalent) for both wide angle and telephoto shots. A 2.7" (6.9 cm) bright LCD monitor helps you in framing and playback. The camera records high definition (HD) 720p video at the touch of a button. Immediately review and laugh, cry or fawn over the photos and videos of the day via the intuitive slideshow mode.

Taking portraits is a cinch and when your subject smiles, the camera automatically captures the image, thanks to the Smart Portrait System. You need not worry about blurry images due to shaky hands, since the electronic VR Image Stabilization system reduces motion blur for sharper, clearer images. Employ Easy Auto mode for those times when you just want to relax and enjoy the moment, letting the camera do the heavy lifting.

Waterproof to a depth of 9.8' (3.0 m) and shock-proof against 2.6' (0.8 m) drops, the S30 is a faithful companion for poolside fun and other outdoor activities. Simple scene modes automatically optimize camera settings for the best results in a given situation or add creative flair to your images. Modes include Point and Shoot, Underwater, Interval Shooting, Highlight Color, Diorama (miniature) Effect, Closeups, Continuous, Food Mode and Soft Focus. Pre-selectable special effects that are fun to use and explore include Soft Focus, Selective Color and Miniature. There are also effects that are applicable after the still shot has been captured, such as Soft, Selective Color, Cross Screen, Fisheye, Miniature, Color options (vivid, black and white, sepia, cyanotype) and more!

Fun and flexable point and shoot

I bought this to take photos snorkeling and while sailing. It's a very unassuming little camera that doesn't pretend to be anything more than a point and shoot. I was really excited about the intervalometer, but unfortunately it will only click photos for an hour (this is a software limit, not a storage or battery limit. So far there are no hacks I've found to remove this limit) and the fastest interval is 30 sec, which really isn't quick enough. The flash is not very powerful, so underwater ...

The flash is not very powerful, so underwater photography is really limited to bright clear water like in the pool or carribean. Murky shots of the bottom of my boat in the Puget Sound were not so great. It would be great for kids too. One button operation. I have had no issues with the refurbished product. It arrived in fantastic condition, just not in the manufacturer's box. I have since bought a Hero 3 black edition and will most likely send this camera (the Nikon S30) to my dad so he can snorkle in Belize and take photos. Or I may keep it to have with as my walking around camera when I don't have my D300s with me. Battery life is decent. I'd recommend rechargeable lithiums.

Returned

The camera was great until it went in one foot of water, in a pool. The first time it did it fogged up and stopped working. Back to the hunt for a durable first camera for my daughter. This is the second time I've had an issue with Nikon Coolpix, so I may have to switch brands.

Great basic camera, easy to use

By

from Los Angeles, CA  -  Casual Photographer

I bought this for my son, who likes to take pictures when we are just out and about or traveling. It seems like it'll hold up to him using it and carrying it around. It's very easy to use and the menus are quite intuitive. My one annoyance is that I can't figure out how to permanently turn off the flash - or at least, how to keep it off even when turning the camera off and on. The flash defaults to being on, which is a pain. But other than that minor thing, the camera is nice enough - nothing fancy, but solid and inexpensive.

Refurbished Nikon s30

By

from CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I got it to use at the beach, in the waves. I've used it twice now, both times it spent an hour in the water, lots of waves and sand .. no problems.. takes great quality photos and video.. and seems to be very waterproof and tough, I'm very happy with it :)

My son Loved this camera

By

from Massachusetts  -  Casual Photographer

I got this camera after reading reviews for a kids camera. It is shockproof waterproof and kid friendly. I love how easy it is to take a picture and navigate the controls. My son is 8 years old and loves his first digital camera.

Disappointed

By

from New York  -  Casual Photographer

I am a very good customer of Adorama, this time they let me down. I understand it is a refurbished camera but this time they did not clear the language setting, some kind of German or other languages already set up in it and could not be reset to be in english. Very frustrating because the person I brought the S30 Nikon for doesn't speak the language the camera's lock on.

defective product

By

Exactly one day after the Return Policy period elapsed, the camera stopped working. Nikon was unable to trouble-shoot, recommended sending it in for service. Bad product, unsatisfied customer.

Tough camera, great pics

By

from OKC, OK  -  Pro Photographer

This is a great knock around camera. The picture quality is superb. I've gotten it wet, but not submerged, no problem. It's a little big. As for the knock around, it takes a beating. This camera has been dropped many times and doesn't show any problems for it. Try dropping a regular P&S, and you will probably not have a camera any more. The video is a nice added feature. Not jerky like older P&S cams were. So, its shock-proof feature is what is truly valuable about this camera.
