About Nikon

10.2 Megapixel D200 Digital SLR Delivers Outstanding Image Quality With Blazing Speed, Rugged Construction and Intelligent Features

The D200 promises an extremely satisfying shooting experience, with a winning combination of quality, performance, construction and advanced system features.

Employing a newly developed 10.2 effective megapixel Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor, the D200 captures images with remarkable resolution and clarity. Its sophisticated 1005-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering II system ensures ideal exposures while an advanced Nikon image processing engine renders images with superb clarity and smooth color gradations.

The D200 reacts with lightning speed, powering-up in a mere 0.15 seconds, and firing in an imperceptible 50 millisecond shutter release lag time. It can shoot five frames per second with a drastically shortened viewfinder blackout time of just 105 milliseconds between shots. Its large, bright viewfinder offers 0.94x magnification for comfortable and precise composition while a new 2.5 inch LCD screen provides ultra-wide 170 degrees viewing angle from all directions.

With an all new 11-area autofocus system, robust control of Nikon's i-TTL Creative Lighting System and advanced Wi-Fi image-transmission options, the D200 is a perfect fit for discriminating photographers and a natural choice for wedding, event and action photographers.

The AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED covers a very popular foc al length range (equivalent to 27-105mm in 35mm format), and offers a selection of Nikon's highly regarded technologies such as Silent Wave motor (AF-S) for super fast and quiet autofocus operation, Extra-Low Dispersion glass (ED) for minimized chromatic aberrations, and Internal Focusing (IF) for convenient and balanced handling.

In addition, the AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED also incorporates hallmark Nikon features that customers have come to expect from Nikkor lenses, such as distance information guide window, a reliable metal lens mount for years of durability, and a M/A mode for seamless switching between autofocus and manual modes.

Designed exclusively for use with DX Format SLR cameras, DX Nikkor lenses deliver a versatile range of angle-of-view, higher performance, and outstanding center-to-edge-to-corner image quality, while realizing smaller and lighter designs. All DX Nikkor lenses have a picture angle comparable to that of 35mm format lenses with a 1.5x factor.

I love that it gives me the colors that I want without having to use an 81a warming filter. Menus are fast and easy to navigate through if you need to change settings a lot like I do. I purchased this kit so that I would have a lens that I wouldn't mind having around little kids when I'm doing youth sports pictures, that way I can leave my (almost 4x the price) Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lens at home and save it for better gigs. All-in-all, I've been amazed by the image quality I've been able to get using the 18-70 kit lens, and my Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lens. *The D200 replaced my D2H and so far my only complaint is solely based on the fact that I was used to the BIG D2H, the D200 is a little smaller, so something to think about if you're like me .

A Solid Choice

By

My first Prosumer/Professional digital camera purchase. A solid choice, and also built well.Have used Pro Kodak digital that was much bulkier and became to heavy during several hours of shooting. The D200 is very flexible, much more like holding an older film Nikon. Would purchase another one!

Incredible Camera!

By

from Miami, FL  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I was going to hold out for a full framed sensor since I already have quite a bit of money invested in Nikon lenses. I ended up buying the kit that included the 18-70 mm lens. This still works out to 27-105mm with the 1.5x multiplier caused by the smaller sensor. My 24-120 VR is now a 36-180mm but my 80-400 VR is now 120-600mm. This extra range came in really handy when I was shooting wildlife in Costa Rica. I'm so glad I switched from film since I can instantly confirm my shots. This was critical in Costa Rica since humming birds don't like to stay still, long exposure shots of volcanos are tricky, and cloud forrest tend to creat tricky lighting conditions and focusing problems. Battery life is great and digital noise is very good below 800 ISO. The memory buffer is also amazing if you shoot lots of consecutive shots (sports or modeling). All in all, I am very pleased with this camera. My only regret is that the new D80 has the same sensor and cost a bit less while offering most of the features. I needed my camera when I needed it so I guess I can't complain too much. I also have no idea what to do with my F100 and N90s since the D200 is so capable. I am planning to add the 18-200 VR lens to my arsenal and it will probably be the last time I have to change lenses. It covers practically everything I need except for the really long shots.

Great Camera

By

from Holmdel, NJ  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

Because it was in short supply, I overpaid and took a lens I didn't need. That was quickly forgotten in the joy of sharp, accurate pictures that go right into Photoshop at the end of the day. Now, if someone would come up with a reliable way to feed the JPEGs into the HD on my TV, I could replace my travel slides.
