About Nikon

The Nikon D300S SLR Digital Camera is Nikon's remarkably creative DX-format digital-SLR flagship. Designed for professionals and other serious photographers who require an extra measure of agility, the D300S delivers phenomenal speed from its smart, responsive body. Its rugged performance inspires confidence in extreme environments.

The D300S's Multi-CAM 3500DX AF sensor module offers an exceptionally wide area of AF coverage. With 51 AF points strategically positioned across the frame, it 's designed to capture your subject accurately, even when its movement is unpredictable.

Moreover, this AF module employs 15 powerful cross-type sensors in the center of the frame to deliver the ultimate in detection performance with any AF NIKKOR lens of f/5.6 or faster. You can also choose to shoot with 11 focus points. The D300S offers three AF area modes - Dynamic-area AF, Single-point AF and Autoarea AF. using 51 points.

The D300S's intelligent sensor applications have undergone a refining process that has led to a breakthrough technology, Scene Recognition System. Using the precise color and brightness information from the 1,005-pixel RGB sensor, Scene Recognition System pushes the accuracy levels for autofocus, auto exposure, i-TTL flash control and auto white balance to an unprecedented high. And in playbackmode, the Face Detection System lets you instantly zoom in on a human face in the LCD monitor.

Awesome upgrade!

Given we're in 2015, it's not the newest camera around and the pixel count is lower than most but, as a beginner/learning photographer I wanted to upgrade to a better spec body without throwing around loads of cash on a d7100 or an FX body. I figure that can wait until I know what I'm doing. I wanted all (or as much as possible) of the control of a 610 or 7100 and have accumulated a few pretty decent lenses to practice on. I just loaded up my new (second-hand with low shutter count) d300s with a 35mm f1.8, a 50mm f1.4 and my 24-70 f2.8. I was expecting ok results... Then I was blown away by the quality improvement over my old beginner 3200!!! Lower pixel count, it seems, doesn't matter so much when you get into the pro-bodied Nikons. Would recommend to anyone in a similar boat and can't wait to get my hands on an FX body once I've mastered this!

Very Durable

After taking pictures, some friends and I were talking around the bed of my sons truck. I placed my D300S in the bed and forgot I left it there. Minutes after my son took off and miles later, I remembered what I did and immediately called him to tell him to pull over to get the camera. That was in the summer of 2012, It's now 2014 and there is nothing wrong with the camera. I still takes great pictures.

Awesome semi-pro camera!!

I majored in Photojournalism years ago and learned on a Pentax K1000. I went into another field but wanted a Nikon back then. Recently, I picked up a used D300s with a lens and love it! It may take some time to get used to all of the bells and whistles, but the pictures are sharp. Great camera!

Folder Contains No Images

I just bought this in March 2014 and I am debating whether I should send it to Nikon for repair or return it to the store. This camera froze on me twice. After the first incident, Nikon Support taught me how to reset it. Few days later, I took it with me on vacation and it happened again. The reset technique did not work. It took more than one day for the camera to come back to normal operation. When it is operating normally, it is a great camera and I enjoy the speed of the camera. So, I am not sure if it is a camera problem or user problem. I own a D80 also and I have not encountered the same problem with D80.

Solid and Reliable

Words cannot express the joy this camera is to use. Solid and confident you'll be, with this camera around your neck. Who cares about the overkill on the above 12 mega pixels anyway? My old D200 gives me beautiful poster size prints, time and time again and that's only 10 MP. The D300s has two more which is perfect for me in my weddings and stock work. I had a D7000 and I did not like the controls and the larger MP's, not to mention the plastic lightweight feel of it and the focusing problems so I got a D3200 because of the price but the slow focusing and extremely long shutter-lag, as well as the fact that 24 MP rapidly takes up memory on the computer (think I'll trade it in for a new lens) - also the fact that I tried it out during an engagement session and I had to rely on the faster more accurate focusing of my D200. Yet I still needed an upgrade and was not waiting for the supposedly D400 so I saw the deal that Adorama had for an E + rated used D300s, yet I had my doubts that it was in the condition they described. Was I wrong! I'm glade I took the chance and purchased this beauty. Wow! Thanks for a great deal Adorama!

Love it...

I have yet to have a Nikon I do not like but this is one of my favorites. It focuses fast. It has lots of sensitivity for low light and a quick shutter for bright days watching sports. Now that I have a D600 I should give it to my niece but cannot part with it.

I love this gear

I had this durable gear for almost 5 years now and never gave me any problem. Always ready for any occasions. And I'm excited to use my new nikon 24-70 mm 2.8. Hoping to make the most out of this camera.

Fast, acurate excellent image quality!

I have photographed both sports, landscapes and indoor corporate events with the D300s, panned incoming ski racers just to be impressed with the continuous auto-focus features, shot running water at F22 only to be amazed by the accuracy of the detail in the image, even had the opportunity to run out of memory with a borrowed D4 while shooting a Kayak event, switched the body on the 600mm glass with my D300s and produced equally stunning results. An excellent camera well designed, easy to understand, user friendly with top notch technology. As for it's low light abilities with or without flash it can do the job but a state of the art full frame I believe would give any photographer a comparative advantage.

excellent camera over all

best quality and performance. in 2013 still a very excellent choice

Still great

Use it for sports photography. It's fantastic still, even though it's about 5 years old. Great focus speed and tracking, separate AF-on button, 7fps.
