About Nikon D5000

The Nikon D5000 DX-Format Digital SLR Camera features an innovative Vari-angle monitor for an exciting new take on photographic expression. It adds a flexible dimension to Live View shooting, which vividly shows your subject in real-time. Now with this freely adjustable monitor, taking great shots and movie clips with Live View is easier and more enjoyable than ever.

Nikon's DX-format CMOS sensor with 12.3 effective megapixels records all the details of the original scene for breathtakingly lifelike photos. Shadows and highlights reveal exceptional details while a remarkably high signal-to-noise ratio vastly reduces noise - especially important when shooting at high ISO settings.

The D5000 enhances Live View shooting by giving you a choice of different display views. Minimize displayed camera settings when you want an uncluttered view of the scene, or show vital information at a glance for situations requiring a comprehensive readout of settings.

Different types of photos require different focus strategies and the D5000 has the right Live View autofocus mode for any occasion. Whether it's a unique expression, dynamic action, or a small object in a big composition, the four easily selectable modes help you stay focused for sharp results.

The D5000 makes it point-and-shoot simple to acquire clear, tack-sharp photos when composing via the bright, informative optical viewfinder. Whether your subject is off-center, moving fast, or completely unpredictable, the D5000 has the right autofocus solution.

The D5000's normal ISO range of 200 to 3200 can be expanded to cover ISO 100 to 6400, letting you capture the natural ambience of a warmly lit room or vibrant street scene when the use of flash or tripod isn't an option. The extended sensitivity is also ideal for shooting sports, allowing fast shutter speeds to freeze action.

The Nikon D5000 is commonly used for Family photos, Landscape/scenery, Low light, Macro photography, Sports/action, Travel, Video, Weddings, Wildlife and more. The Nikon D5000 is most used by customers who consider themselves to be a Casual photographer, Photo enthusiast, Pro photographer, Semi-pro photographer among others. The Nikon D5000 is popular because customers like the following qualities of the Nikon D5000: Easy to use, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Fast shutter speed, Good image quality, High ISO performance, Image stabilization, Large clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /swivel LCD and Tilt / swivel lcd

Great beginner DSLR

The D5000 was my first DSLR camera. I had a pretty good point and shoot and was ready to move up. After looking at the D5000 and the D3000, it was an easy choice to go with the D5000. It's a great entry level DLSR and I'd recommend it to anyone. Don't let the refurbished part of this deter you. The camera I received might as well have been new. I have no complaints at all.

Defective sensor

From Nikon Inc. (USA) Support / Service: "After evaluating the sample images you sent, we were able to determine what is causing this defect on the images. The problem is basically is (sic) a defective camera's sensor. In this case, the only option to correct this problem is sending the camera to our technical department and having the sensor replaced for a new one." I'll update this review after Nikon returns my D5000 and I retest it.

My new sidekick

Perfect to gave as a gift to Fiance for phototrips

No regrets, only going up from here

It's great for what I do. I use my NikonD5000 for event photography usually in night clubs and some portrait photography. I only had a budget of about $1500 for my mobile photography studio when starting my part time business. I'm used to working with the best equipment on my full time job, so I didn't have to compromise on quality when I purchased this camera. It is a refurbished item and I couldn't tell the difference. This is a good foundation and I can grow my business for here.

Excellent camera!

Great for shots of fast-moving, changing scenes like small children.

Buying reburbished is the way to go!!!

My brother bought this exact same camera new and paid twice as much. Silly boy. Our refurb model was as-new and functions flawlessly.

Great Purchase for me!

Good value for the camera. No problems with the refurbished model. Has worked flawlessly.

Refurbished D5000

Prior to making this purchase I had been toying around with finally entering the realm of DSLR cameras. After researching the financially feasible options to death, I finally decided to settle on the NIkon D5000. Prior to purchase I was under the impression that for the money (particularly the refurbished option) this was the best bang for the buck. Offering the same CMOS censor offered in Nikon's other higher end cameras, i.e. Nikon D90. 12.3 megapixels was more than plenty seeing as how I'm very much a novice in the field of photography and have no plans for any prints larger than an 8x10. I purchased this camera not only because I wanted to finally get my hands on a DSLR, but because I was headed to a family vacation in San Deigo and figured that a week there would give me plenty of time to begin to learn how to use the camera efficiently. Prior to describing performance I would just like to add that my camera came in immaculate condition. Knowing that the possibility buying refurbished allowed for some cosmetic wear and tear. To my pleasure the camera came in immaculate condition and with less than 500 shutter actuations. I couldn't have asked for more! Now, performance. I took over 1,000 shots on my trip; Indoor, outdoor, ocean, wildlife, night shots, long exposure, the whole bit. Given the level of Camera, and my limited knowledge of photography at this present point in time, I couldn't be more pleased. Shots in natural light are absolutely superb, capturing a wonderful range or brilliant colors, and an incredible amount detail. Indoor shots, again for the camera were wonderful. Having only the built in flash made the lighting harsh at times, but this brings in the ISO performance. Brilliant, with a Range of 100-3200 and Lo and Hi options of +/- .3, .7, .1, the ISO performance up to 1600 was wonderful, no noise or distortion. 3200 was most certainly workable and offered a good dynamic range where flash couldn't be used. The Hi modes are more for show. Boosting to Hi one just to try it rendered the photo rather grainy with more noise than I would want in a photo. (Side note: I should have mentioned this earlier, but I only have the kit lens, 18-55mm VR). For portrait and macro photography the camera faired exceptionally well. Offering fast shutter speeds to f/3.5, and being able to slow it to f/36 for long exposure photography. But back to portraiture and macro photography; the lens offered crisp, colorful focus and the bokeh (blurring of the background) was good for the speed of the lens. Overall I am incredibly pleased with this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking to enter into the realm of the DSLR, particularly at the price point.

Nikon D5000 -Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.

easy to use, low light shooting, tilt/swivel LCD,D-Lighting...

I would buy this product again and again

I could not tell this camera from a new camera. Everythings works just as it should. It has problems foscusing in low light, but all D5000's ar e like that. Overall I am vry happy with it. The video is not very good it has a hard time focusing.

Awesome Camera

I purchased this camera because I wanted to take photos of my son and various family events. I did not enjoy taking pictures until I stepped into the realm of DSLRs with this camera. Originally I owned a point and shoot and was very disappointed with image quality, but with this camera I became addicted to taking pictures and photography has become my new obsession/hobby. The image quality is great and the camera has had no problems out of the box. I was reluctant to purchase a refurb. but Im glad I did I saved a ton of money and was able to purchase a new lens along with my camera. My only gripe would be the LCD screen it is a bit outdated but I knew this before buying ( it is a 2-3 year old model camera ) overall I would recommend this camera. It is just that awesome!

I love my D5000!

I use my camera for travel and family. I hesitated to purchase the camera because of the price tag but I found Adorama through a friend and have been very satisfied with the camera. I would say that even though it's larger than the palm sized camera we use to have, the quality of the photos outweighs the convienients of putting the camera in your pocket. If you're looking for a camera and want to upgrade this is the option. I have used it for shots of birds, my family, and travel and have awesome shots of all! If you are a first time digital camera user it was a bit of reading for me to come up to speed with the options of the camera. But after many uses I don't regret purchasing it.

Adriana P  Hi, I just want to make sure that this camara includes batteries and battery-charger... could you confirm?

richard b  I would like to know what is the condition cosmetically that this refurbished d5000 is in and why is it refurbished?
MICHELE T  I bought my Nikon D5000 refurbished from Adorama and I love it. It does not look like a refurbished item (previously used) and it runs great!! I have no idea what the original owner found wrong with it as I love my camera. I've had it for over a year now and can't find one negative thing to say about it. I would recommend Adorama to anyone. I thought I got create services and a great deal! (I saved over $1300 by going to Adorama, than if I would have gone elsewhere - I price checked.)
