I've owned this over a year now. I put the grip on my camera, and it's been on there pretty well all the time, since I bought it. I really like the feel of the grip and camera together, plus the ease in switching to portrait, plus it has the adapter to be able to use AA batteries in your camera if needed. Be aware that your camera probably won't fit, or won't fit as well in your camera bag with this grip. I deducted a point for the flashpoint batteries. I started by by looking for batteries for my D80, which were only giving me about 50% of what they initially did, and realized that I could buy this plus batteries for the price of a Nikon battery. The grip has performed flawlessly, and as expected. But about those batteries... Flashpoint batteries are pure and absolute garbage, not worth the cost of shipping. First, the replacement Flashpoints, brand new, only wiegh about 50% of what the Nikons do, which is reflected in their performance, which is about 50%, maybe less, than what the Nikon Battery would do when new. Basically, the new Flashpoint batteries were no better and maybe even worse that my 4 year old Nikon batteries. I would have to put both Flashpoint's in to equal one new Nikon battery. I also bought a flashpoint battery for a Fuji P&S at the same time, and had the same results with it. To sum it up, the grip gets 5 stars, the batteries are 1 star. They're better than no batteries, but it's marginal! They should leave them out of the box.

So it doesn't say "Nikon" on it. If that's the biggest issue, then there's bigger problems. This is a good product at a great price. My biggest concern was that as my D80 gets older and technology advances, how redily will I be able to replace the batteries for it? Well, not only do I get two free suitable batteries (that have held a charge almost as well as my two Nikons,) but also a tray for AA's that works very well and guarantee that I'm in business for the life of my camera. The verticle grip works fine and everything fits well and makes the camera more comfortable. I give the construction a "good," not "great," but functionality and value are superb. This was a gift I had the audacity to ask for. :)

I bought this batter pack primarily to balance out my D90 with the 70-300mm lens that is normally attached to it. Without the battery pack, the camera definitely seems front heavy. A friend of mine has a Nikon battery pack for his D200. I can't see much of a difference between his and this one quality-wise. The biggest difference between the two (other than his fits the D200) is the sticker on the bottom. His says Nikon -- big deal. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there is on-board storage for the battery compartment door inside the battery pack. I also appreciate the switch around the pack's shutter release button sets it to (L)andscape mode only or allows both the portrait and landscape shutter releases to work. That keeps the accidental actuations down to a minimum. I've had the pack for a little less than 2 weeks, and have shot about 400 pictures, and still have a full charge. I can't comment on total battery life of the non-Nikon batteries. What I can say is that since the pack will run on only 1 Li-ion battery, even if these batteries only last half as long as the original Nikon, I still have doubled my battery life. I love the fit and finish of the battery pack, I love how it balances my camera, and I REALLY love the value. Thanks to Adorama for making this available!
