This is a great lens! I'm very happy with it. I needed a lens to take more portrait like photos of my grandkids. This one was just what I needed! Very happy.

Splurge for the 50mm Zuiko macro.

By

from Luverne, AL  -  Photo Enthusiast

This is a good lens, except for how short of a lens it is. A macro lens this short makes it difficult to take pictures of any kind of insects. This lens is definitely better to use for plant macrophotography. The autofocus is pretty dodgy too. Maybe mine is defective, but it won't even focus on something about two feet away. I've resorted to manual focus only for this lens. I just use the hybrid focus to manually focus it close to where it needs to be, and then let the autofocus make minor adjustments. At this rate, I don't even know if buying into the Olympus DSLR family is a good idea. The last DSLR Olympus made was in 2010; they've been more focused on the m4/3 system lately. I would suggest that you go for Canon or Nikon so you don't buy into a dead system.

Excellent Macro lens Very Sharp

By

from Jackson, GA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Primarily used for very close to subject macro photo. Very sharp lens with good depth of field on very close tiny objects. Auto focus will hunt when subject ius extremely close and complex. Manual focus is easily available to counter this.

Totally surprises at the POOR quality of a lens from Olymnpus. What were they thinking when they made this lens? ? ? ? ?

Great lens for me!

By

from Lancaster PA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I wanted to get up close with my flowers. This lens fits my needs. It is quick and easy to use. The price was great. The quality of the Olympus lens are fantastic the pictures are crisp and clear! I will be looking for a ring flash for this lens to add light for certain conditions.

Buy This LensBefore It Gets Discontinued

By

from Cleveland, OH  -  Photo Enthusiast

I use this 4/3 lens w/Oly adapter on Oly EPL-1. I consider this lens to be a bargain. Mine is very slightly mushy at the closest focusing distance but, when brought back just a bit, becomes extremely sharp. I do not know if my use of the adapter affects the closest focus. I think this is the cheapest true macro ($235) on the market, except maybe for the discontinued 100mm 3.5 Vivitr/Phoenix ($150), and I'd grab one now.

Super sharp!

By

from Detroit  -  Photo Enthusiast

Got this lens for pictures of flowers and insects, and for items I sell on the famous auction site. Works perfectly for those things, but it turns out it's a great "walking-around" lens too. Super sharp, fast focusing in good light (although I use manual focus for macro) Equivalent to a 70mm lens on 35mm, I've used it for portraits, too. It's slightly bigger than I expected, about the same size as the kit zoom when retracted. Great value for the money.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
LAWRENCE J  i would have purchased the lens alone, but the accessories were a bonus that enhanced user value. The Lens is great. Swithch to manual for REALLY clse macros. The range finder gets confused if the background is clutered -- no problem. My old macro equipoment requirerd manual focusing.
Judy D  does this fit the Olympus E510 camera?
ELEANOR R  It fits my E520 so it will fit your E510 - I'm very pleased with it.
