The Olympus MSC ED M. 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens is compatible with the PEN series of interchangeable-lens digital cameras. It is a prime lens with a fixed focal length of 60mm designed for sharp close-up shooting. The wide, fast f/2.8 aperture creates a shallow depth of field and improves image quality in low-light conditions. The lens features an ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element, which reduces chromatic aberrations for greater accuracy in your images. This macro lens is also Movie & Still Compatible (MSC), meaning its focusing is quiet enough that the sound will not be picked up during video recording.

Advantages this lens has over the 12-50mm lens:
• 1:1 max reproduction ratio
• More reach than the 12-50mm (60mm vs 50mm)
• It's a faster lens (f/2.8 vs f/3.5-6.3)

The Olympus 60mm F/2.8 Mirrorless is commonly used for Macro photography and more. One reason why the Olympus 60mm F/2.8 Mirrorless is popular is because of its Lightweight

Excellent macro and telephoto

Providing a full-frame equivalent focal length of 120mm, this is a useful telephoto for portraits and still life. It is tack sharp, fast at f 2.8 and has excellent bokah. Macro capabilities are superior, allowing close ups to within a few centimeters. Focussing does tend to seek (normal for all macro lenses), but is usually accurate. This is my go-to lens when I want to carry a medium telephoto on my MFT with the bonus of macro capabilities. It is very light weight. Buy the optional lens shad...

sweet, tiny macro lens

By

from Houston, TX  -  Photo Enthusiast

I was looking for a smaller photography rig (like many that have made the switch to m4/3) and a macro lens was essential as I love looking for fine details. This is a TINY lens - think of a skinny Red Bull can. It's even small on my Olympus OM-D E-M1 (especially compared to the 12-40mm Pro lens). Focus limiter helps you keep the lens from ranging far and wide to focus and the magnifying feature of the OM-D makes this easy to get the focus right the first time. I've mounted a step up ring to it so I can snap on a Metz ring flash that is light enough to stay on with no issues. Loving this lighter, smaller rig! Don't forget that with a m4/3 sensor, you'll get a deeper depth of field at a comparable F-stop than a larger sensor. This means more light coming in and more areas in focus (which can mean a lot when you're shooting a 1mm insect!).

A great tool for macro shots

I've only had this lens for a couple of weeks, but I'm quite happy with its performance. I need to get more familiar with its auto focusing capabilities, especially the 1:1 range.

Terrific macro lens

By

from North Carolina, USA  -  Professional

We use this for garden and flower photography. It replaces an old manual focus 90mm macro lens, which we used with an adapter on our Micro 4/3 cameras. The 60mm macro is extremely sharp even wide open. Stopped down it provides decent depth of field control, which is important for macro photography. The lens is very light, making it easy to use handheld, and on a tripod it's well balanced. The focus limiters are pretty well thought out. It can be a little tough to shoot at 1:1, but that's true of any macro lens. We purchased an aftermarket screw-in metal lens hood, rather than the expensive Olympus hood. Not sure why Olympus won't include a hood with their expensive pro-level lenses.

Questions about this item:

Clark B  There appears to be a space between the 14/42 and the port window...I just can't ell if it is enough space for the 60mm lens?
ROLAND J  sorry, I don't understand what your question is? this is a 60 mm lens, it's within the range fo the 14-42 mm zoom range.
Clark B  Will the lens attached to the EM-1 in the underwater housing fit? The housing is named: PT-EP06
Chung Ching Y  I don't have an underwater housing.
STEVE M  Can this lens be used as a telephoto lens as well?
REID, III L  Yes, the 60mm macro lens, which is weather-sealed, is a good telephoto lens, equivalent to a 120mm focal length in a full frame sensor. It's a very fun lens to use.
