About Olympus

Unleash your creativity with the super-compact, image-stabilized E-600 DSLR. It's the DSLR that puts creative freedom in the palm of your hands. Three creative in-camera art filters and a swivel Live View 2.7" HyperCrystal III LCD offer creative freedom and endless shooting possibilities. The 12.3-megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic III+ image processor provide exceptional picture quality. With in-body Image Stabilization and small 16.76-ounce body, the E-600 is a camera that truly lets you shoot outside the frame.

The three in-camera art filters transform your photography into works of art. Pop Art super-saturates colors, creating brighter, more vivid photographs. The E-600's 100-percent accurate 270-degree swivel 2.7-inch Live View HyperCrystal III LCD can be rotated freely so photographers can compose at any angle, including overhead and down low. The LCD displays in vivid color and provides a wide viewing angle of 176 degrees, which ensures images can be composed from even the most obscure angles.

The seven-point twin cross AF system provides fast and accurate focusing. Super sensitive seven-point Twin including, five-Twin Cross AF target points, can measure focus both vertically and horizontally, so regardless of the subject, focusing is super-simple and fast. The E-600 packs a 12.3 MP Live MOS sensor and the TruePic III+ image processing engine to provide accurate color fidelity, sharp detail, professional picture quality, and overall superior performance.

The E-600 features three modes of in-body Image Stabilization. That means you can use any Four Thirds lens, from wide-angle to telephoto, for perfectly clear, crisp photos no matter what the shooting situation, even in low light situations. Face Detection reduces the chance of blurred subjects in photography by distinguishing between people's faces and the background.

Shadow Adjustment Technology adjusts the exposure in the shadows while retaining all the detail in the bright areas. The Olympus dust reduction system is an industry first and a proven technology. Every time you turn on the E-600, our Supersonic Wave Filter - located between the shutter and the image sensor - silently vibrates an amazing 30,000 times per second. Dust will no longer get between you and a great shot.

The E-600 is compatible with the Olympus FL-50R and FL-36R wireless electronic flashes that are designed exclusively for digital photography. When these flashes are used in combination with the E-600, wireless multi-flash photography is possible. The 12.3 megapixel E-600's TruePic III+ Image Processor produces crystal-clear photos with accurate color, true-to-life flesh tones, brilliant blue skies and precise tonal representation. TruePic III+ also lowers image noise by one step to reduce graininess in images shot at higher ISO settings, enabling great results in low-light situations. The ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 3x standard zoom lens is the smallest and lightest in its class and features a closest focusing distance of only 25cm. The ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and two aspherical lens elements correct aberrations without increasing lens dimensions. The circular aperture diaphragm enables beautiful defocusing - one of the big advantages of this lens. Excellent mobility is assured by a weight of less than 190 grams.

The ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F4.0-5.6 300mm (35mm equivalent) lens in a short 7.2cm body with ED lens elements, ensuring both picture quality and portability. Boasting the smallest size and lightest weight in its class, this cost-efficient 3.8x telephoto lens uses an ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens element for optimum correction of chromatic aberrations. Incorporating a circular aperture diaphragm for beautiful defocusing, this lens assures high picture quality throughout the zoom range, as well as providing an astonishingly short closest focusing distance of 90cm throughout the zoom range.

Great buy on a great camera

I learned photography on Nikon gear with Nikon glass. I am very pleased with the results of this camera outfit. I was not expecting much from a kit lens, but I have been very surprised. I get great color and clarity. The on camera flash works well for fill at close ranges. I am not worried about refurb gear, just buy an extended warranty.

This camera has a lot of features packed into a compact body. The two kit lenses are both very sharp. Live view and a swivel screen are handy and fun to play with. The viewfinder size is a big improvement over previous Olympus 4/3rds slrs. So is the autofocus. I purchased my E-600 refurbished, and the first one was defective. Adorama replaced it without a hassle. Colors are vibrant, and the pictures are very sharp, BUT shadow noise is always there. If lighting is less than ideal, image noise is a problem, even at low ISO settings. I even noticed a couple shots, at ISO 200 shot indoors, that there was noticeable banding in the shadow areas. Also, the buttons on the back are very small, so you will have to look carefully before changing settings. I encountered a third problem when I went to sell this camera: nobody knows what the E-600 is. In conclusion, although I like many things about this camera, I wouldn't recommend it. There are much better choices out there.

Great Kit!

By

For the money, I don't know how you top this. Olympus also now has a full Image editor available for free on its website....Viewer 2. Over all, very happy!

High-quality dSLR at low price.

By

The kit lenses are very good indeed. The 40-150 is especially sharp wide-open. Perhaps Olympus has shot themselves in the foot by offering such fine lenses as I feel no need to buy other lenses. I'm the typical "two lens and a camera kit"! This may not feel like a good low-light camera but you can get very good focus speed so long as you focus on something with some contrast like the edge of an object. However, indoors I usually use the Vivitar 383 Through-The-Lens flash which gives a fantastically clean image. As more of a documentary photographer than a portrait photographer I love the depth-of-field the 4/3 lenses give. If, however, you prefer to isolate the subject by blurring the background then you may prefer another system. If there is one thing I could change then it would be the tiny viewfinder...it's terrible compared to any other dSLR out there. I'd pay, oh, an extra $100 just for a bigger and brighter viewfinder. Finally, let me emphasize how nice this camera feels in your hands. You can't help but pick it up, play with the controls that move so smoothly (snick snick snick), revel in the lightning-fast responsiveness of the LCD, etc...

Great camera, even better value

By

Bought this set for my wife, she has been using 35mm film SLR's for years. This camera made the transition to DSLR very easy and almost seamless. Sometimes she even lets me use it, all in all, a great value and a outstanding kit with the two lenses and accessories.

Best DSLR Deal Anywhere!

By

I wanted a small camera with great image quality. This camera has the features and IQ of a midrange dSLR. It comes with two excellent kit lenses (35mm equivalent 28mm to 300mm). I paid [$] [...] from Adorama. There is no better deal on an entry level dSLR!

I love this camera

Have only had it a few week but really love it. It can take a little while to learn to use but once you have it down its a great camera.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
FARON C  I purchased this mainly because of the price...the most bang for the buck. Plus I own another Olympus so it wasn't that much of a leap. Shoots very good pictures but it is not the best in low light with the standard lenses. But with good lighting, and correct white balance this camera takes some excellent pictures. Even if you shoot in JPEG the Oly really performs. This basicly is the E620 with just a tad less features. Good buy.
