Best superzoom camera to me
I ordered and picked up the FZ35(my first Panny camera) in Washington state. Then we went to Vegas. Without the chance of practicing, I shot P, A and many different scene modes. The night scene/portrait results are great. FZ35 is also more compact/lighter than the Canon Sony equivalent. It's much smaller than I expected. 2 kinds of video output. MOV and MTS. Both are good enough at 1280x720. You can use free FormatFactory to edit MTS. You sure can zoom while filming. Sound isn't bad.It generates a tiny bit of noise even at ISO100 if the picture is underexposed. The low ISO noise can be removed easily with Lightroom. And there's no advanced manual in the box. Only in CD or online PDF. There's basic manual in the box though. You have to press and hold about one second to get the top buttons respond. I guess it's to prevent from touching them accidentally.FZ35 is packed with a lot more functions and options than my Sony A300 dSLR was(and probably all the entry level DSLRs). Its 2.33 fps continuous shooting speed is limited to 3 shots only. With my Patriot Class10 SDHC card, there's almost no waiting time after 3 shots. i.e. The camera is ready right after taking 3 continuous shots.[...] Better price than its competition at the time of my purchase.

Good, but not great
I bought this to replace a stolen FZ50, but I found out the FZ35 is not in the same category at all. The display LCD doesn't flip out. The lens retract too deep and cannot mount a filter adapter all the time. The tripod hole is too close to the battery compartment cover. If I put a tripod adapter on the camera, I cannot open the door. No flash level adjustment. Picture quality is quite good overall.

Bought this for in-laws two or three years ago. Would describe them as enthusiasts, but not gear heads. They've been thrilled with it. I cant speak to image quality, and since this camera came out, there have been numerous updates, plus intro of mirrorless systems and rash of compact superzooms. But that said, they've loved it and used it relentlessly.
Easy to use, but low resolution leaves you wanting. Only useful in sunny environments or in places where the lcd screed would be a disturbance (plays, theatre).
The camera is one of the best superzooms available. Having said that, the placement of the buttons near the thumb rest is extremely annoying, due to accidental engagement while composing shots. The zoom is limited by it being power actuated rather than manual. Battery life is excellent, but always buy this camera with a spare so you won't get caught out. DO NOT leave the camera running between shots, as this will quickly deplete the charge. It is much better to power down between shots that are more than one minute apart. I was able to get 400 shots per charge using this technique, but only 150 when not turning it off. I think the autofocus drains the juice. Overall a very forgiving camera, but with limited manual control (max. aperture is f8.0.)The onboard prests are very good at doing their job, but in low light, the colour tends toward the brownish yellow end of the spectrum, making things a little unnatural. An ideal camera for taking on long trips due to it's programs, fast computer, image quality and wide zoom range. One of the things I noticed in my example was that the lens tended to widen the subject, but I was able to correct this easily in the paint software that comes with Microsoft Windows by reducing the Y-axis to 95%, while leaving the x-axis untouched.
Many useful features normally found only on slr's. Be sure to time to read the owners manual to fully understand the capabilities of the camera.
This camera continues to amaze me! The ease of use and the quality of the images is fabulous...if I want to allow the camera to think for me, it's easy...and if I want to take control it's doesn't take long to figure it out...the manual was helpful to get started...I'm beyond thrilled with the FZ35!
I'm happy with my new camera however I didn't tried all it's features since I've got it just 2 or 3 weeks ago. It's faster and has a better IS then my previous one,[Lumix Panasonic DMC-TZ4].
Perfect for my using
This replaced my Canon S5IS. The picture quality is better as is the shutter lag. It is also lighter. I only wish the batteries were standard AA size like the Canon so back ups were always available.
I returned it! This got great reviews; was expecting much better performance. In low light, this big lens barely beat out my pocket point& Shoot Fuji with a tiny, fixed lens!
This camera cant be beat for the price and features. I compared, analyzed, and read reviews before purchasing this camera.
