Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50K Digital SLR Camera, 10.4 MP, 12x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom, MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer, Black

About Panasonic

The 10 mp Panasonic DMC-FZ50 is loaded with dozens of features such as a 3D multi-colour display, a free-angle 2.0" LCD with a wider adjustment range. Change the angle of the LCD monitor any way you like. You can get a comfortable look at the 2.0", 207,000-pixel monitor even when shooting over a crowd or taking a low-angle shot of a flower. Panasonic also increased the vertical adjustment range to 180 degrees for easier shooting in portrait orientation.

With AF Distance Metering the auto focus method can be selected according to the shooting situation, 9-Point, 3-Point High Speed, 1-Point High Speed, 1-Point Normal Speed and Spot. In the new 1-Point High-Speed AF, the AF time has been dramatically reduced to 1/4 the level of the previous models by raising the sampling frequency

The FZ50 is equipped with a built-in multifunctional powerfull flash that features Auto, Auto/Red-Eye Reduction, Slow Sync/Red-Eye Reduction, and Forced On/Off. The flash intensity can be adjusted within a range of ±2 EV. The FZ50 is equipped with a 12x Optical bright f/2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens that features 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses and an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens that helps suppress the color bleeding that can occur in telephoto shots.

This advanced lens also boasts a 12x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 35 to 420mm) that pulls even distant objects into your range. Add the FZ50's large, 1/1.8" 10.4-megapixel CCD and you have extraordinary expressive power. The FZ50 also features an Extra Optical Zoom, which gives you up to 21x power* by magnifying (with minimal deterioration) the image using the center area of the high-resolution CCD.

Use intuitive control with manual focus and zoom rings. Two rings on the FZ50 lens barrel give you complete manual control of zooming and focusing. You get levels of speed and accuracy simply not possible with button operation. You'll enjoy not only the precise control the rings give you, but also the satisfying feel that only manual operation offers.

Accurate, flexible focusing both auto and manual: Use any of five auto focus modes: 1-point (normal/high-speed), 3-point high-speed, 9-point, and spot. The manual focus ring lets you adjust the focus from about 1 ft (0.3 m) to infinity. The FZ50 also has Manual Focus Assist, which makes it easier to focus by enlarging a part of the image that you see in the viewfinder or LCD monitor. This all adds up to quick, easy, accurate focusing.

The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) helps keep your shots steady, even if you're not. This system uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even tiny camera movement and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical - it does not affect the CCD or image processing - so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration.

Enjoy dozens more of advanced features with your Panasonic FZ50 Digital SLR.

WOW!!!Super Camera

Having upgraded to the FZ50, WOW what a great camera, The 12x Zoom Lens is suberb, with a fast AF, and great Image Stabilization System.I know there has been crtisism about "Noise" in the FZ30 but I have printed 12x8 shot at ISO400 which have shown no appreciable noise. This is a great all round camera and definately the one for anyone who wants the flexibility of a DSLR without the expense and numerous lens changes

Impressive FZ50

from Pittsburgh, PA  -  Professional

This is the best high-end point & shoot camera that you'll ever want or need. I owned the FZ20 and it served well for several years until I got it wet too many times. I suggest getting a plastic housing if you work in poor weather conditions.

I love it!!!!

I'm just getting started using the Lumix...spent one weekend taking pictures. Some blurring, but I attribute this to picture taker error and moving subjects. I'm so pleased with the super zoom! It's exactly what I wanted before I venture into the SLR area. Very happy with this camera.

Excellent Camera

from Somerset, England  -  Semi-professional

A wonderful camera - The zoom is first rate, the stabilisation works wonders, and for those looking more for fun than professional photos the auto focus works, as does the macro. For those looking to get to know the manual controls, it is very simple - One hand gets focus and zoom on the lens, the other gets the apature and shutter speed control wheels. There is a slight noise even at a low ISO, but a quick fix in a program such as Photoshop will have you producing professional quality prints and pictures in no time at all. An excellent buy, and well worth the money - To buy an SLR and lens with the same capability and quality would cost well over £1000.

Wow, just wow!

from Sarasota, FL USA  -  Professional

Unless you have thousands to spend on a digital SLR with lenses and accessories. This is the camera for you. In program mode it's a PHD camera ( Push Here Dummy). If you are a pro, or learning to be one, you can take this camera as far as you want to learn to go. You're going to need at least a 1gig card, and an extra battery. The 32meg card that comes with it is a joke. Keep in mind that even a very expensive pen won't help you write a better novel. My advice: Zoom in and learn to compose, take thousands of pics and never let anyone see the bad ones.

wow excellent camera

from monterrey nl mexico  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I bought this camera because I wanted high resolution, big zoom and easy controls. Could not make a better choice: Panasonic is so easy to use, that is unbelievable! Focus is excellent even in low light conditions, the manual zoom is one of the best ideas of Panasonic. Compliments and thank you!

Best long zoom, non DSLR

from Detroit, MI  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

This is my 4th digital camera. I've owned a Olympus D-510, Panasonic FZ20, Canon A620, and now the FZ50. This is a great camera. Very easy to use and get creative. Some reviewers complain about noise, but I don't think the noise is that bad as long as your not a "pixel peeper" or blowing up your pics to large poster size. A little noise reduction software will correct it. It handles a lot better than my FZ20. I love the zoom and focus rings rather than a button or knob. After using this camera for about a week I'm able to access menus and change settings without's that easy, and things just seem to be in the right spot. The tilt/flip LCD comes in very handy for those hard to reach pics.

Extreemly versital, easy to use

from Houston, TX.  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I have taken about 100 pictures with it, just getting the feel. The image stabalization works wonders, so long as you remember it only removes the camera shake, not movement of the object. All of my pictures have been taken with 100 asa and manual focus with excelent results.
