About Pentax K-30

The Pentax K-30 Digital SLR Camera with DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Zoom Lens (Blue) is a great entry for hobbyists looking to purchase a DSLR for the first time, or photographers who need a newer camera with a more rugged construction and larger sensor. With a fast 6 frames per second and built-in sensor-shift image stabilization, it will easily capture the shots important to you. You'll also be able to shoot worry-free due to the K-30's full weather sealing that allows for use in any weather condition, including temperatures down to 14deg. F.

This K-30 kit comes with the DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Zoom Lens which provides a range of focal lengths from true wide angle to standard and is an ideal lens for day-to-day use. When shooting on a camera with an APS-C size sensor, like the K-30, its focal length is equivalent to 27-84.5mm in the 35mm format.

With 16 megapixels and a maximum resolution of 4928 x 3264, you'll also have free reign to print enlargements up to 11 x 14" and beyond, to hang up in the living room or a home office. Should a single image not be able to fully capture the moment, you can even switch to video mode, with live view and capture stunning 1080p Full HD clips of every detail--to relive whenever you want, even on a big-screen TV.

For a bit of creative freedom, there are several different capture modes that can be used to define your unique style as a photographer, including: Extract Color, Toy Camera, Retro, High Contrast, Shading, Invert Color, Color and even HDR (High Dynamic Range). With just three exposures the camera can capture and align the images by pixel to create HDR images with ease.

No matter where you take the K-30 you can be sure it has enough power by using the rechargeable lithium-ion battery, or the optional AA Battery Holder (sold separately). With the AA Battery Holder you can use any AA batteries to power the camera when an outlet is nowhere in sight. Get the best of both worlds via the included rechargeable lithium-ion battery, or run into any convenience store to grab AA batteries when you need a last-minute power source.

A very good value.

Using it to record various activities in groups I am associated with, as well as other activities and events. Usually take a lot of pictures of the events, and then edit them down and provide the group with a CD slide show of the event. In a couple of cases I put an entire years activities on the disk as chapters in a DVD show that can be used by the group as a history review/retainer. I might add that I had several Pentax lenses from a filme K1000 which fit this body and provide me with ability to shoot in very low light situations. Also like the fact that it uses 64GB HDSC cards!

Pentax K30 a winner!

By

from Belfast  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The pentax K30 may masquerade as a budget D.S.L.R but includes many sophisticated features more commonly available on high end cameras, not the least the use of two scroll wheels for speedy adjustments which can be customised but what really stands out to me is its low level light performance, even when I am using a 200mm zoom. I have not explored all its features as yet but rate it highly. Sophisticated weather sealing make this a camera for the British climate

Good advanced DSLR with maximum function

By

from Omsk, RU  -  Photo Enthusiast

Attractive & convenient design (pleasantly lies in hands). Traditionally amazing colors, good transfer of skin tones. Almost all necessary functions and settings for beginners and the advanced photographers. Probably professionals won't have enough buttons of fast control. Video auto-focus - not its strength side (but it is possible to be accustomed with old manual lens). I can recommend this camera for all Pentax users, who doesn't want to be spent on K-5

Great camera, great value

By

from Valparaiso, IN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The K-30 is a wonderful advanced DSLR that is great for most outdoor situations. I got it with the 18-135 lens. That is a great lens to use from moderate wide to telephoto. I am happy with most features, including HDR and bracketing. I wish it had a battery grip and the ability to do tethering. Overall, highly recommended!

Pentax K-30 Digital SLR Camera Body, 16.

By

from British Columbia, BC  -  Pro Photographer

Purchased this with the Pentax 18-135mm lens as a run around camera that I can use on vacation and not worry about sand, water etc. Looks great, feels great and easy to use. This combination doesn't have the sharpness that I am accustomed to with pro lenses and Nikon D3s but I didn't buy it to use for my business so it works perfectly for me as a lightweight, spontaneous shooting camera that is not heavy to carry around in my purse all day when I'm not working.

Great!

By

Pentax has packed a lot of features into this camera that are above the price notably 100% VF, WR, and Dual Wheels. The dual wheels let you have "P" mode where one wheel makes the camera behave like it is in Tv mode and the other wheel makes it behave like it is in Av mode and if you press the Green button it returns to auto mode. There is also a TAv mode which lets you go one step away from manual by controlling both shutter speed and aperture and letting the camera set ISO. I upgraded from a K-x and this improved on that great camera in every way possible. The AF system has greatly improved in speed and accuracy and the Liveview AF has really come a long way (on the K-x it was all but useless so that isn't saying much), but it still lags behind Canon and Nikon in this respect so if you are totally dependent on AF or if you do lots of action stuff than you might want to weigh the importance of that feature.
