  • New 77-segment metering system: A new 77-segment metering system quickly and accurately determines exposure, even in the most complex and dynamic lighting situations.
  • Live View mode: Live View mode, with contrast AF, Face Detection and optional histogram, grid and bright/dark area display, allows you to quickly compose your images without having to position your eye against the viewfinder.
  • 100% field-of-view viewfinder: A 100% field-of-view viewfinder (with 0.92X magnification) and bright focusing screens are ideal for accurate image composition and focus.
  • HD Movie Capture: Widescreen HD Movie Capture features adjustable quality settings and aperture control, as well as Shake Reduction and an external microphone terminal for recording stereo sound.

I bought this camera because I wanted a well built camera that wasn't as pricey as the other $2000+ in its class. Well, it was put to the test. I was doing some long exposure work during low tide, a sleeper wave caught me off guard and knocked the tripod over into a sandy, receding wave. While the shutter was still open, the camera plunged entirely into the water. I immediately turned it off, pulled that battery and hurried home. The camera is absolutely fine, and the sand that was grinding around inside the lens is not there at all anymore. The seals kept all water and sand out. This camera is a tank, my first DSLR, I mostly shoot medium format film. I would get one if I were you. Also, attached is an image taken with the cameras HDR filter, the only thing I did to this picture was tweak the levels in photoshop.

Great Cameras!!

Very rugged construction- goes anywhere. Fast focus, lots of customization...a camera you can really grow into!

A Camera That Is A Joy To Use

I purchased this camera as a replacement for my K-10D about four years ago. It has proved to be a wonderful camera that I have enjoyed using. One big improvement I noticed right away was the accuracy of the white balance and how easy it was to make adjustments. I often had difficulty getting the white balance set with the K-10D. The only really negative aspect of this camera that I have noticed is the amount of noise in pictures taken in low light using higher ISOs. I take a lot of pictures at concerts where the use of a flash is prohibited. Despite this drawback I have been able to take some very nice photos in relatively low light conditions. I did however purchase software to help deal with the noise.

Great Camera

I use this camera almost daily and it has been very reliable. I had a problem with it last year and I sent it in for repair under warranty and Pentax repaired it for no cost and was quick about it. Adorama was helpful in that they supplied me with my invoice so I could verify the date of purchase because I was 800 miles away from home and my purchase receipt. Thanks Adorama for being there when I needed your assistance in getting the camera repaired.

Fabulous Camera

The only disappointment was the video features on this camera. I love it otherwise. Great photos. This is my 3rd Pentax, and certainly not my last. I would have rated it 5 stars if the video did not cut out on me.

Workhorse Camera. Tough as nails

I've used the K7 for over a year for a variety of projects including music magazine covers and downhill mountain bike racing. It is the most useful camera I have ever owned. It takes some time to get to know all the functions and a solid understanding of the principles of photography in order to get the most out of it, but anyone can produce fine images without getting too technical.

THE Pentax Upgrade for Pentax Lovers

If the K-5 is too expensive but you want the latest technology from Pentax, this is the camera for you!

Loads of Features

This is a good overall camera. Fun to use. I have the battery grip which is nice to hold. I use it now as a backup to my k-5.

Back up Camera

I shoot mainly youth sports photography. This K-7 is now my back up to my K-5.

Great camera, features, and great photo

I've owned my K-7 for close to two years (prior Pentax cameras were K10D, K20D...) This camera has met all my needs as an (almost) semi-pro photographer. Images are sharp, clean, and without distortions. The movie mode 720p HD transforms taking video from the small format hand held camcorders to a higher resolution professional looking video. There are so many very good functions that it is impossible to include them all in this space. Its ease of use and versatility can not be overly praised. Good price and ruggedly built. I use mine for a varied number of formats (still, landscape, portraits, architectural, video, and the built in filters have opened others such as infrared photography.

Love it!

I love the built-in HDR, the way you can customize the thumb controls to control what you want it to do. I love that any Pentax lens will work on this camera and you don't have to pay extra for lens stabilization because it is built in to the body.
