The door to my learning of photography

I have been using this camera for over 2 years now and I can't regret it. This is my first DSLR and it is a Pentax :) Most of the time people ask me whz did I choose this brand and my answer is always that I enjoy taking photos and I like to be individual :) I am usually shooting people and I really enjoy street photography. I am still on the learning curve with this camera, but it is quite forgiving. I really love the handling and the build quality of Pentax. Despite this is just an entry-level DSLR its superb image and build quality is above the competition. Although there could be a wider range of lenses for Pentax, but which I already own are superb for me.

Great entry-level DSLR

This is my first DSLR. For the features you get, there are a lot of used units to be found on the secondary market at reasonable prices. I bought mine with std kit lens for about 40% of original MSRP, with only a couple thousand snaps on the counter. Love: Fast power-up to ready-to-shoot time. Almost no shutter lag. Nice image quality. Light, easy to manuever. Not so much: Auto-focus occasionally gets lost and goes off deep end. Does have high ISO settings, but beyond 800 they get really noisy really quick. Howver, at the entry-level, it's a heck of a lot better than other basic point-shoots or phone cameras.

Great entry level SLR camera.

Love the white storm trooper camera. Super easy to use. The filters are awesome you can make changes after your images on the camera. NICE!!!

The Pentax K-r Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens is that lightweight, mid-range 12.4MP digital SLR camera with a 3x zoom lens that also shoots dazzling 720p HD video that you've been looking for. It's got a few other things going for it, too--like a high resolution 3" LCD display with 930,000 dots, up to 6 frames per second shooting speed, super-accurate 11-point autofocus system, sensitivity up to 25,600 ISO so you never miss a photo due to low light, shutter speeds up to 1/6000 second to freeze the action and dual power options, either rechargeable Li-ion or easy-to-find AA batteries.

The 18-55mm lens provides very wide-angle to normal views that will cover a surprisingly wide range of photo opportunities. That's not all: the K-r has an efficient dust removal mechanism that automatically shakes dust off the CMOS sensor, a custom image function for applying one of nine creative modes (such as Bleach Bypass, a dramatic effect used in movies) to any particular image you wish, a digital filter function with a choice of 18 filters to process images without a computer (including Starburst, Sketch, High Contrast, Fisheye, Toy Camera, Posterization, Retro, etc.), an upgraded HDR (High Dynamic Range) function to create a superb image in difficult lighting situations (by combining 3 different exposures of the same scene) even when not using a tripod and 3 different cross processing options to create dramatically different colors. It even has a high-speed infrared data transmission system--the first in a Pentax camera.
