Optio is OPTIMUM

This camera is awesome. I love the features and the quality is excellent (for a small lens compact camera) I own a Canon D60 for framing, but this camera is great for everyday shooting. The video feature is great. I had a great time with a subject in a pool using the slow motion feature. It shoots in approximately 4x speed so the slow motion is smooth. it also shoots a lot longer than many "slow motion" camcorders with more resolution. I have the Sony which only shoots about 3 seconds of video, but it is amazingly smooth. The Optio shots for about 15 seconds which produces a 1 minute video of very smooth slow motion video. The stitching process of the panorama feature works great and you can take 5 pictures to make a real wide panorama image. It is solid and the controls work nicely. You can even designate some controls as one button access so quick changes of commonly used features are alway ready, Love the camera, haven't found any reason to "wish it did this, or wish it did that".

Don't buy this camera Optio WG-2

By

from Hickory, NC  -  Semi-Pro Photographer

This "waterproof" camera leaked on the ski slopes and now does not even power on. Waiting for Monday morning to contact Adorama to see how they handle this. I have found many other photographers online that have experienced leaks with this camera. I am really disappointed, because the camera had some nice features, but "waterproof to 40 feet" does not describe "leaks in snow without being submerged in water."

rugged compact

By

I have taken the Pentax white water rafting without any problem (and my wife has done likewise with its predecessor.) We get splashed or submerged often. Battery life is fine. I find that one battery (I usually carry 3) lasts most of the day, which for me means 200-400 shots, with some short movies mixed in. The picture resolution is quite good. If you don't need huge sized photos, I like the candid indoor photos I took over the holidays without flash. People are more relaxed without a flash. They're fine as snapshots. The macro (with integrated lights) is fantastic: amazing in a camera this size. You can go right up against a flower, and take a spectacular shot of the beautiful patterns displayed in its center.

Pentax Optio WG-2 vs Optio WG-1

By

from Mpls  -  Pro Photographer

WG-2 Has a bigger screen and size than WG 1, but suffers from Very noisy Images at ISO ABOVE 200 making it useless for any low light photography. This issue is due to its new CMOS CHIP. WHICH. REPLACE THE CCD. On the WG 1

Questions about this item:

Weng Haan L  If I'd like to purchase another spare battery, shall I go for "Flashpoint Replacement Lithium Ion Battery" ($9.95)?
WILLIAM S  There have been some negative reviews posted by some users regarding Flashpoint Batteries. However, I have purchased several of them for my four digital cameras and never have had a problem with any of them. In fact, I have found that last just as long as the original manufacturers batteries, not to mention the fact that they are a fraction of the price of the manufacturers batteries. My opinion is that you will not regret it.
Weng Haan L  william, in this case, which spare battery would u recommend? do u mind to provide me the exact URL so that i can confirm i don't get the wrong one? thanks William.
Patricia G  Approximately how long do batteries last on a full charge? My Optio A -30 barely makes it through an average day of shooting without a battery change.
ROBERT K  I've never pushed it to its limit. Took the family to the beach for a week this summer, and used the camera a bit every day. Never needed to switch to my back-up battery. Both batts were Pentax, though; not sure if the generic substitutes would last as long. (Also, you did not indicate in your question how many photos you made in a day.) Hope this helps.
Patricia G  Thank you. And I take an average of 50/day, but varies.
Shopper  does any of the optio line have optical viewfinders, like the optio s 41?
KENNETH W  No it does not. The screen is pretty bright. We just got back from the beach and had no problems in bright sun. We'll see come ski season!
