Buy an extra battery

The biggest negative I have about the x90 so far is that it eats up the battery quickly.I just ordered a spare battery to carry with me.

Okay, but nothing more

I bought this as a gift for my step daughter. If I bought it for myself, I would have returned it - DSL user and expect better and have seen better. She is happy enough though.

The only camera you'll ever need

By

from Milwaukee, WI  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This camera is the only one you will ever need. The zoom range is outstanding and cost much less than even one of my telephoto lenses. I took it to the Mexican Maya Temples and was able to get close up to the very top- now off limits to tourists. The capacity and battery life are great.

Only Camera You'll ever need

By

from Milwaukee, Wisconsin  -  Semi-pro Photographer

(This is from an article I wrote for NRHS Wisconsin Chapter newsletter. I am a director, so permission to reprint is given.)The "Only Camera you'll ever" need returnsBy Bob WolterSince many movies have sequels, please permit an article sequel? In the January 2010 Sparks and Cinders issue yours truly wrote: "The Pentax X-70 12 Megapixel Camera has a 35 mm equivalent zoom range of 26-625 mm. Say Again? Yes,yes, yes: 26-625 mm. This makes it the only camera a rail photographer will ever need! You can back it way up to get those "tight shots" and zoom down the track for those distant one. What else do you need?"OK, so how about a camera that hasn't been discontinued? After writing the article, I told myself that I wasn't getting any younger and since I cant take money with me to the hereafter- How about spending some to enjoy now?I was determined to spend [$] to possess this wonderful piece of technology. Thus began my "fruitless quest" in search of this great camera. I first called my longtime friend at Adorama, Fred Wasser. He said that the manufacturer had discontinued the Optio X 70, but gave me the number of Pentax. They said that they had not anticipated the popularity of the camera, but that the production run was finished and they would make no more. Thus began the fruitless search. No one had them excepting a couple of individual vendors at [...], wanting far in excess of the original price.Well, everything that comes out of the box later is new and improved. The Optio X 70 was reintroduced in May as the Optio X90. Learning from my last experience, the camera was gotten first prior to writing about it. The Optio X90 now sports a bit larger 12.1 Megapixel CCD with an optical zoom range a bit further from 26-676mm. The bells and whistles are simply too numerous to mention, while the video mode is probably better than your dedicated Video Camera. Face detection, a great 2.7-inch LCD viewfinder, an ultra quick start up time of 1.6 seconds, and lightweight at only 15.1 ounces with battery. Dimensions are 4.3 x 3.3 x 4.3 ounces. Even a very old person, like me, will appreciate the camera's shake reduction feature. No more wasted shots! For the folks wanting more technical info, go to Adorama.com, and search for the Pentax Optio X 90. Print out the Specs if you wish. For those that aren't too good with computers- your local library will help and charge about 15 cents/page to print it for you. This is ABSOLUTELY " the only camera you will ever need". For those of you that trust me, Adorama has a nice kit for about [$]. You can open the box recharge the battery and start taking great pictures. You can call and ask for my salesman Fred Wasser at [@] if you wish. For those of you that want a second opinion, talk to Jim Yanke- he has just bought one also.I love my new camera. Please get yours before they become discontinued again. Remember, enjoy your life, it's later than you think!

Great point and shoot camera

By

from Drummond Island, MI  -  Photo Enthusiast

This is my girl friend's It does all that my DSLR does in one small package. In fact my largest lens 600mm weighs 12 lbs needs a tripod. She can shoot hand held with a shutter of 1/1000 She now has a monopod. Low light is it's only failure but the sensor is so compact the density creates noise. she can focus as close as 4 inches. excellent to ISO 400.

Excellent zoom capability

By

from Aurora, Ohio  -  Photo Enthusiast

Flowers and nature are my favorite shots. I've gotten excellent close photos and the zoom built in is great. I could not afford a camera with a changable lens and this provides the zoom I wanted with the camera! I also use it for church events intended for our webpage and newsletter--so it works well inside and with action.
