About Sony 18-200mm

Get closer to your subject with the SAL-18200 zoom lens. Excellent for everyday shooting, this telephoto lens excels at capturing faraway subjects, sports events, dramatic landscapes and intimate close-up views.

Specially designed for the APS-size CCD imager of the Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera, this is the standard zoom lens that brings you closer to your subject.

With superior All-in-One lens performance for everyday shooting, its 35mm-equivalent range of 27mm wide-angle to 300mm telephoto excels at capturing faraway subjects, sports events, dramatic landscapes and intimate close-up views.

Internal Focusing System: Internal lens elements move, so the overall length does not change, creating alens that focuses more quickly and doesn't change balance.

Aspherical Lens Elements: Three aspherical elements correct visual aberrations more effectively across theentire zoom range and help reduce weight.

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass: Two ED Glass lenses minimize flare and greatly reduce chromatic aberration, giving you sharp, clear shots even at full telephoto extension.

Circular Aperture: Because aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

The Sony 18-200mm is popular because customers like the following qualities of the Sony 18-200mm: Durable and Easily interchangeable

Good all around lens

from Brooklyn, NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

I was really happy to make this purchase. I had 2 kits lens that I was happy to make this purchase to replace them with. However the focus on this lens is pretty slow. I find myself using manual focus more often then not. However for the price that I purchased this used lens, I am extremely happy! I definitely would recommend this lens as well as Adorama to all my friends.

Perfect all-a-round lens

from Woodbury, MN  -  Photo Enthusiast

This lens stays on the camera 95% of the time and does everything from grandchildren to travel. It does not replace a macro or other specialized lens. It is a 3.5, so it might not be the best choice for low light applications but it performs great with an external and internal camera flash.

A good travel vacation lens

from Dubai, UAE  -  Semi-pro Photographer

his came as my Kit lens with my A700. Its a re-badge Minolta Japan lens of plastic mount but still its well built comparing to the other DT lenses of sony. Though this lens is sharp and very good colour, its not my preferred everyday lens as its not fast and ideal for indoors and low light. i am very found of prime lenses. I use this lens for all my Travel & Holidays. For those of you who got this lens use it and forget the SAL 18-250 or Tamron or Sigma zooms. For the ones who do not have this lens and want an everyday all in one zoom i suggest buy the 18-250mm, its a newer model, more focal availability, metal mount an a few dollars more.

A good general purpose lens

from Brenham, Tx  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I find this lens does most of what I need to do. When dirt got inside lens body, behind the main element. Sony wanted $166 to fix it. Got it done local for $70
