About Sony 55-210mm Mirrorless

SONY 55-210mm F/4.5-6.3 E NEX LNS, BLK

Zoom in and snap the picture. Okay, there’s more to wildlife photography and event photography than that, but when you procure a SONY 55-210mm F/4.5-6.3 E NEX LNS, BLK, sometimes, things will really seem that simple—and the pictures that result from such simplicity will look like they were much, much more complicated. Consider:

Product Highlights

  • The Sony 55-210 includes a 7-blade, circular aperture that provides smoothness and consistency that works even at low-light settings. You won’t have to worry so much about image quality at those nightly rock concerts or even nighttime wildlife scenarios.
  • The wide zoom range means the Sony 55-210 will be capable of taking both medium and long shots and putting out consistent image quality and stability—which is great for when your subject is moving quickly.
  • The quiet internal focusing mechanisms will handle it all with minimum noise, making video capture just as sharp as the images you snap.

Acquire a Sony 55-210 and you’ll find out exactly what kind of consistency and sharpness a zoom lens is truly capable of.

Learn about the SONY 55-210mm F/4.5-6.3 E NEX LNS, BLK

Since when do zoom lenses offer this much capability without excessive autofocus noise or color aberration? Since Sony got in the game. The Sony SONY 55-210mm F/4.5-6.3 E NEX LNS, BLK is more than a zoom lens, though—it’s a lens built for wildlife and active photography in a range of different ways. From stable images to low-light video, this lens is capable of delivering top-quality visuals no matter what your subject is—or how far away that once-in-a-lifetime image of a deer grazing on the horizon may be.

Adorama is host to plenty of zoom lenses, though, so what makes this Sony 55-210 so special? Let’s take a closer look of our own to find out:

  • A wide zoom range is necessary in any quality zoom lens, simply because no photographer knows exactly how far they’re going to need to zoom on any given day. That’s the whole idea of zoom in the first place—adjusting your frame in order to suit changing conditions. Well, the Sony 55-210 offers a wide focal range of up to 315mm (35mm equivalent), which is great for sports or nature shooting if that’s your cup of tea. And thanks to this wide zoom range, you’ll be able to handle anything that mother nature throws at you—whether it’s a squirrel the next tree over or a magnificent lion den on a safari.
  • Stay steady. We at Adorama know that there’s more into making a zoom lens a good zoom lens than its focal length. It also has to stay steady. The Sony 55-210 features Optical SteadyShot TM stabilization, allowing you to achieve the crisp and static images that you’re looking for. And this works for video as well, handling even low-light conditions to work with subjects that are far off in the distance.
  • Internal focusing means quiet autofocusing. The Internal Focusing construction here minimizes noise thanks to its design. And since wildlife and sporting events are rarely static, you’re going to need to use video often—the lower noise here, the better. You don’t want the sound of autofocus getting in the way of what may otherwise be a brilliant cinematic moment.  With the Sony 55-210, you won’t have to worry about that.
  • The ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements will help ensure that the images you take are as free from chromatic aberration and color bleeding as possible, even across the wide variety of focal lengths you can squeeze out of the Sony 55-210. This will give you consistency no matter how far away each shot may be, giving you the confidence you need to enter any situation and take the shots you know need to be taken.
  • The circular, 7-blade aperture provides for soft, smooth images, which gives even your most zoomed-up shots a rare quality of not looking so flat as they could. The depth and contrast in each shot is not only stunning, but will have people wondering just how close you got to each of your wildlife subjects.

You’ll find it hard to get more out of a zoom lens than a photographer even of minimal experience can get out of the SONY 55-210mm F/4.5-6.3 E NEX LNS, BLK. Do your wildlife and event shots a favor and start taking zoomed-in pictures that come out striking on a consistent basis. In other words, get yourself this lens.

Excellent Lens

very nice compliment to the kit lens for my sony A6000 -- picks up at the 55 mm focal length and gives good reach for more distant subjects. this makes for a compact and light weight kit for travel and hiking. focus is fast and accurate. OSS makes for reasonable hand holding of telephoto shots.

May have bought a turkey

By

from Undisclosed

I love the idea of this lens but the reality is that the images are badly ghosted. I've experimented with both handheld and tripod shots and on a lovely day with good light there are bad ghosts at 70mm and at 210mm. I plan on taking it back to the store and trying another lens as I read other reviews and haven't seen this complaint so I may have a bad lens.

Excellent lens

By

from Japan

I got this lens for a couple of month, it came together with the NEX-F3Y kit, its pretty amazing with it superb quality of images. Particularly at low-light condition. The only problem is a little bit long in length, it might poses some discomfort while you are shooting photographs in a crowded area. But I guess probably I might get used to this as time goes by.

Good lens, but...

By

from Washington DC  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

This would have received a higher score from me if it was possible to use a filter with the hood installed. Unfortunately, I have to take the filter off if I want to use the hood and vice versa.

Good lens... lacks sharpness at high end

By

from Eden Prairie, MN

This is a very good, compact lightweight lens for my Nex 5N. Also cozy feel and good looking. Great for outdoor/portrait. Nice stabilization too. At the dark side - this lens is not sharp wide open at the tele end. If you zoom more that 150mm or so then you have to step down the aperture and the image quality is so so. This is 210mm in APS-C so you can expect it to work as good as a 350mm full frame. But in reality it doesn't. If you plan to take nice bird or animal picture it is not the lens for you (probably nex series is not for you) but if you plan to take picture for normal outdoor or some long range portrait - its perfect.

Spec error correction, not a review

By

from Florida

This lens is specified at 2.50 Diameter x 2.25 Long, this is incorrect, the lens is 4.25 Long (108mm) collapsed. The error originates on the Sony web page for this product.

Response to two lower comments...

By

from Indianapolis, IN

To answer the first comment: You say you have the NEX-5 which should have come with the 18-55mm lens correct? If so then you should just go for this lens. 1) It is over $400 cheaper than the 18-200mm zoom lens and zooms further than that one by a bit. 2) Another reason why you should just go for this lens is because if your camera came with the 18-55 zoom lens, then this one, the 55-210mm lens, would basically pick up where the 18-55mm lens left off and go the extra distance you were looking for. I'd only recommend the 18-200mm lens if you didn't already have the 18-55mm lens....Does that make sense? Also, the f-stop that you see on the lens is the min and max aperture....That number is important especially when you're wanting to take pictures of sporting events and action shot. However, its only really important if you plan on manually adjusting the shutter speed. The higher you adjust the shutter speed the less light is let in. So when you adjust to shutter speed to the higher points, your pictures come out really dark so having a lens with a really high aperture, say 1.0 or 2.8, will allow you to open the aperture blades back up even though you have adjusted the shutter speed already, thus giving you the perfect shot. This camera already have a really high frames per second so getting that perfect actions shot be no problem even without adjusting the shutter speed to its fastest speed. I hope this helped! ;-)
