About Sony DSC-H90

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H90 Digital Camera (Red) is an attractive point-and-shoot that boasts high resolution stills, 720p video capture, Optical SteadyShot and a number of other stellar features. Svelt though it may be, the H90 is no slouch when it comes to recording high-quality images. The 16.1 MP still capture is helped along in its mission by 16x optical zoom, a 3.0" LCD screen, the aforementioned image stabilization and many other functions. Many of these same facets of the camera also help to record the 720p HD movies as well.

In addition to the core tools of the H90, the auto features enable successful image making without the guesswork. Sweep Panorama mode allows for panoramic images of up to 360 degrees. Face detection and Smile Shutter work to make sure everyone looks their best and other features like Anti-blink, Face Priority and Red-eye Reduction do the same. iSCN detects up to 33 scene conditions and automatically adjusts the camera's settings based on the situation, while Natural Flash corrects color balance for life-like shots.

Sony DSC-H90 Features

  • 16x optical zoom in a compact body: The Sony 16x optical zoom G lens brings distant subjects super close for great outdoors, sports and travel photos. The compact size makes it easy to take with you in a pocket, purse, or backpack
  • 720p MP4 HD Movie Mode: In 720p MP4 movie mode the camera shoots 1280 x 720 high definition movies at 30 fps, a standard format when working with a PC. Users will create high quality movies with full use of optical zoom in files small enough to transfer to compatible PC or Mac computer
  • Sweep Panorama mode (up to 360 degrees): Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed, then seamlessly stitches the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image
  • 16.1 Megapixel Super HAD CCD Image Sensor: A powerful 16.1 megapixel 1/2.3" Super HAD CCD image sensor helps you capture gorgeous images with superb contrast and clarity down to the finest detail
  • 3.0" (230K dots) Clear Photo LCD display: Large 3.0" (230K dots) Clear Photo LCD display features sharp, natural color that makes it easy to compose shots, read menus and view photos, even in bright sunlight
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization: Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality
  • Picture Effect: Picture Effect adds a new level of expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits come to life by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes. Select camera models have up to nine different effects
  • Intelligent Auto Mode: Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode thinks for you, recognizing scenes, lighting conditions, faces and adjusts settings resulting in clear images, faces with natural skin tone and less blur
  • Face Detection technology: Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
  • Smile Shutter technology: Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity
  • Anti-blink Function: When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot
  • Soft Skin mode: Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot
  • Intelligent Scene Recognition Mode: Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects 33 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera settings. iSCN has two modes: Auto and Advanced
  • Natural Flash: Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash controls the white balance of both the background and main subjects
  • Dynamic Range Optimizer: Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees

I received this camera for my birthday and I cannot find anything good to say about it. Sometimes it just freezes up! Can't even use it...Do not buy this camera.

Glad I bought the camera.

My son killed my old camera so I was in need of a new one shopped around alot reading reviews, youtube reviews checking sites for a good price almost went with another site and I would have paid much more had I done that. I finally checked the sony site for the camera and found it at a very great price (however I did buy it when on sale price and couldnt resist buying it). I love the camera it's very easy to use, takes great pics, I love the panaramic options, the zoom is great for I needed. The only issues for me is the pop up flash since my finger will be on that spot when the flash pops up. Other than that it's a great camera and I love it and would recommend it as a present or for yourslef.

This is a good quality camera as you would expect from Sony. The only problem I have is how slow it is. This camera seems to always be "processing". I wish I had read more reviews about it before purchasing.

Too slow! Would not recommend.

from On the Road

We purchased this camera for our trip out West. "On/off" button is slow in responding and is too recessed into the camera. Have to push "on/off" button a few times before it responds. When in "Auto" mode it is very, very slow because it is trying to determine what type of pic you are taking. Then it might decide the flash is necessary, even if it's daylight, so by the time it is ready to take a pic it is too late. And then, there is the placement of the flash. I am used to taking photos with both hands holding the camera. The flash is located at the top of the left-hand corner where I am holding the camera to steady it. I've learned to adjust placement of my hand, but the slowness in waiting for the camera to decide the type of photo and if the flash is needed is very frustrating. Sometimes the flash will pop up, but not flash. Even in "Advance Sports Shooting", which should be fast at the touch of the button, each pic is delayed. Another problem is that you can "view" your photos at the touch of a button without turning on the camera, but when you want to turn "view" off, the camera automatically turns itself on and now you have to turn the camera off. Doesn't make any sense! After taking a pic with the "Zoom" it is very slow in responding to adjusting the zoom and I can't figure out why. Again, time is lost in trying to adjust the zoom for another pic. There is definitely too much going on with this camera that slows it down. "Auto" doesn't necessarily make it a good product, especially when you want to snap and shoot. Still shots are slow, but trying to take pics while we are driving on the road is next to impossible. I am very, very disappointed, but it was not inexpensive so it's not a camera I can put aside and buy another. I'm back to using my Minolta, DiMage Z3 which I had hoped this Sony would replace only because I wanted a camera that was small and lightweight. I would have rated this camera Poor except that it does take good pics.
