About Sony

The sleek Sony DSC-TX1 Digital Camera incorporates the "Exmor R" CMOS sensor and boasts stunning low-light performance, reducing grain by more than 50%, even without a flash. High speed burst captures 10fps without distortion and expansive Sweep Panorama shots are easy to achieve with press and sweep motion.

Sporting an ultra-thin body, a 3" touch screen and phenomenal imaging technology, the Cyber-Shot DCS-TX1 digital camera delivers high-quality photos (and 720p HD video) in high-fashion style. A Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens and Sony "Exmor R" CMOS Sensor works in combination with the BIONZ image processor for super-fast processing to make it easy to get the best shot. You can now shoot 10 frames per second at an incredible 10.2 megapixels per shot- perfect for those hard-to-get moments.

You can even shoot beautiful landscape shots with ease and capture clear photos when you're in dark environments. Not sure which mode to use in challenging lighting conditions? Let the Intelligent Auto (iAuto) Mode choose the setting for you.

Sony Features

  • 10.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated "Exmor R" CMOS Image Sensor: The TX1 features a 10.2 megapixel "Exmor R" CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera's Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution and stunning low-light sensitivity.
  • Stylish Slim Design: Measuring at just 3 3/4" x 2 3/8" x 21/32", the DSC-TX1 is slim enough to slip into a pocket or purse, so you can take it with you wherever you go.
  • Handheld Twilight: Capture cleaner and sharper night shots without using a tripod. When set to Handheld Twilight Mode, the TX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with one press of the shutter and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise
  • High speed shooting: The TX1 can capture full 10.2 MP resolution images at up to 10 fps, to ensure that you capture the decisive moment such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, it employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.
  • Creative painting tools: Decorate your photos with words and drawings using the included paint pen. There are also more than 30 stamps and 15 types of picture frames.
  • Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode: Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode thinks for you, recognizing scenes, lighting conditions and faces and adjusts settings resulting in clearer images, faces with more natural skin tone and less blur.
  • Smile Shutter technology: Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity.
  • Pet mode: Pet-mode minimizes blur when shooting moving pets utilizing Motion Detection technology and automatically turns off the flash to reduce glowing pet eyes. AF illumination is also disabled so you can take more natural expressions avoiding startling your pets.
  • Viewing modes: Find your photos using the simple folder or calendar viewing modes.
  • PHOTOMUSIC: PHOTOMUSIC combines images with music (4 tracks, 5 minutes per track) to produce fun and entertaining slide shows with standard visual effects (Simple, Nostalgic, Active and Stylish).
  • Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens with 4x Optical Zoom: The high-performance Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports and travel photos and Close Focus shoots close-ups up to just under ½" from the subject.
  • Anti-Motion Blur Mode: Capture cleaner and sharper images, even when your subject is moving. When set in Anti-motion Blur Mode, the TX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shouter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image.
  • HD Movie (720p): Capture more of your memories in high definition (720p) video. Record HD movies in 720p high definition MPEG4 format with stereo sound for stunning large-screen home movie playback. Record up to 29 min in 720p format (or up to 2GB) per movie.
  • Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode: Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects nine different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings.
  • Motion Detection: Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces
  • Dynamic Range Optimizer Standard and Plus: Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees.
  • In-Camera Retouching Tools: Retouch and enhance your photos on the go with in-camera Trimming, Red-Eye Correction and Unsharp Masking functions.
  • PhotoTV HD: Bring your photos to life and enjoy highly detailed, high definition images with PhotoTV HD-capable Sony BRAVIA HDTVs.2 PhotoTV HD fine tunes settings on your PhotoTV HD enabled BRAVIA HDTV, such as sharpness, gradation and color.
  • 3" Clear Photo LCD Plus Touch Screen: A large 3" Clear Photo LCD Plus touch screen display (230K pixels) allows you to scroll through images by simply touching the display. Thanks to a layer of hardened glass on the touch screen, the display of the TX1 is twice as durable as the DSC-T90.
  • Sweep Panorama mode: Reach beyond the traditional wide angle lens and capture more breathtaking shots with Sweep Panorama Mode. Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed.
  • Easy Touch Screen Interaction: TX1 now offers intuitive additions to the multi-purpose touch screen, such as the ability to select the focus point with a simple touch, scroll through images by sliding your finger across the screen and one-touch access to the MENU.
  • Intelligent AF: Thanks to Intelligent AF technology, capture fleeting moments like a child's adorable expression with the ultra-quick AF which locks focus in as little as 0.3-sec.
  • Face Detection technology: Sony's improved Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images.
  • Wide zoom display: To use the entire image area of your compatible HDTV screen (sold separately), Wide Zoom display automatically expands standard 4:3 and 3:2 images to 16:9.
  • Easy Shooting Mode: With Easy Shooting Mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting Mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices and allowing focus on your subject.

Words cannot describe how amazing this camera is!

Being worried this wonderful camera wouldn't make it here by my vacation, Sony provided me with the estimated date it would be here by... 1 day BEFORE my trip. So I was hoping this was accurate. Actually, this camera is WAY better than I expected (and I expected a LOT). Ok, enough of me, I'm just so excited. I've NEVER wanted to write a review on ANYTHING, until this camera, I just want everyone to share this wonderful experience with me haha. I saw in another review that a message always popped up, and although I am unsure of what it was for sure, you do receive messages, but they are just safety features telling you to check the battery compartment and what not to keep the waterproof-ness at it's maximum, not that there is a problem. Overall, if you are considering this camera... PLEASE don't hesitate any longer. I spent YEARS finding this beauty. Going through other "waterproof cameras", this one by far exceeded my expectations. Again, sorry for the long review, I just can't say enough about this camera.

DON'T BUY

I got out of the water dried it off, opened it and there was water in the battery compartment. I sent the camera into Sony to be repaired when we got home. After 4 weeks of no contact I called Sony only to be told the camera had water in the battery compartment (which I already knew!) and that voided the warranty and they would not be replacing it. I've spent countless hours on the phone with their unhelpful customer service department only to be told that I did not take care of the camera and it will not be replaced/repaired. Never again will I buy another Sony product.

Like beer, you don't buy this camera, you rent it!

By

I really like everything about this camera, but don't count on using it for much more than a year. I have had a T300 and a TX5 in the last three years, and they both turned into vibrating paperweights. So it works out to several hundred dollars a year. Kind of like a car lease--you keep up with the new features, but don't think you end up owning anything for the money. I guess my next move is to buy a TX10 and use it for a year or so before it craps out. Great design, pathetic durability.

Exceeded my expectations!

By

I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this camera. I bought it for a trip to Thailand, only bought a waterproof camera so that I'd feel comfortable operating it near water...not for the purpose of taking underwater pictures. Well it takes great pictures, both above and below water. I'm so glad I chose it, I went snorkeling in Thailand and got AMAZING shots and videos too! Everybody there loved my camera and pictures so much, I have picked up one for my sister-in-law and sent it to her in Baltimore, and one for my brother-in-law and sent it to him in Singapore. I bought it at an outlet store for $180, so it was well worth the money, but it would have been worth the $300 I originally expected to pay. Tip: Buy a floating camera strap just for peace of mind in case you drop it into a body of water. Really...camera is great all-around. The touch screen even works awesome, including underwater. I should do commercials for Sony because I love this camera! Check out my 2 sample pics, one above water, one below water.

Great camera

By

I like that camera very much. The panorama feature is amazing. Easy user interfaces. Accompanying photo shows the peeled-off skin/paint on the front cover. We were taking underwater photos and saw the skin, which was originally the dull gray finish, peel off to reveal the silver metal.

System Error

By

from Tampa, FL

I got this camera 2 weeks ago, with 8Gb Kingston Class 6 133X SD Card and configured it at 7 Mp resolution (max resolution in 16:9 format available). After taking 240 pictures aprox, a message appears: Check memory card. So, i shutdown the camera, got the memory off and put it again. When i turned on the camera a message appears: System error. I downloaded the pictures on my pc and put the memory again. The camera works again without any error message, but i couldn't get any christmas pictures... cause of this problem. Is There a way to fix this problem?

smooth and sleek

By

from OWHYEE

I have had the red one over a year now. Just as my warranty was up the edges of paint started to chip off, so I would get the pure metal one if I had the chance again. I ended up putting nail polish on the chipped edge. My new camera! Thought it was oxidized aluminum like on some knives.... I don't get the battery either. You need 2 because the juice runs out so fast. Unlike my old cyber you can't run in and buy AA's from the store in a pinch either. Every time you go out you have to make sure your batteries are freshly charged. Last complaint: I keep putting my finger on the lens, you need to be a little nimble with it. The photos are EXCELLENT. Get to know your settings for optimum results... movie clips to you tube AND I made finalist in a magazine of 20 photos out of like 100! Already! NIce overall, carl zeiss is the bomb.

I love this camera. I really do, BUT...........

By

from Chicago, IL

We purchased this camera for two reasons. We wanted a waterproof camera, and we wanted a Sony camera. We are huge fans of Sony. We own a lot of Sony products and have never been disappointed by them, until now. The camera takes great pictures. My only complaint is that I wish it had a better zoom, but I knew beforehand that it was limited as far as that is concerned. What happened with ours was 3 months after purchasing it, having used it many times in many different pools, (we have all of the underwater pics and movies to prove it - they're way cool!) the seal was somehow compromised and we got condensation in the lens. We were so bummed and upset. We returned it to the store where we purchased it, and thankfully, they were super helpful. They sent it out to Sony to have it repaired. We just got it back last night and are eager to get it in a pool to try it out again. We love the camera so much and are hoping the problem has truly been taken care of, but are very skeptical about it. What if the same thing happens 3 months from now and the warrantee runs out? Here's to hoping that doesn't happen.

Water resistant, Not Water Proof!!!!!

By

from Cincinnati, OH

I bought this camera and loved everything about it. Takes great pictures (day or night), cool fun options and will fit into a pocket no problem. The second day myself and the family went to the pool. Everyone playing, taking pictures and my son spraying everyone with water hose. The camera was in the water for about 3 minutes barely submerged. long story short I seen the LCD touch screen had water inside. I let it sit on a towel and called Sony. Sony told me to ship it in (no cost) to get it repaired. If it cannot be repaired they will replace within 2 weeks. This is not an acceptable option for me. First of all this camera is 2 days old and already having issues. If I wanted a refurbished camera I would have purchased one. Second my wife and I are expecting any day. I DON"T HAVE TWO WEEKS!!!! Luckily I took the camera back to the store and they gave me a refund! I have always bought Sony camera's and had good luck with them but I will not purchase another TX5 and Truly debating on leaving Sony as a customer because of their warranty policy. Good Luck hope this helps! P.S. the manual is on a disc. instead of a book ANNOYING!!
