About Sony DSC-W650

The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W650 Digital Camera (Black) is ready for anything--its 16.1MP resolution guarantees excellent image quality and the sharp Carl Zeiss 5x wide-angle optical 25-125mm (equivalent in 35mm format) lens gives you a true wide-angle-to-telephoto range that's great for landscapes, parties, kids, portraits, etc. This little gem will always be there when you're ready to take a picture--it only weighs 3.8 oz (107.7 g) and fits in a shirt pocket (3.75 x 2.25 x 0.75").

The 3" LCD monitor makes it easy to compose and view photographs, or the superb 1280 x 720 HD video. A Sweep Panorama mode makes it a snap to produce a truly impressive ultra wide-angle 360Deg. panoramic photo, even without a tripod and SteadyShot image stabilization plus sensitivity up to 3200 ISO means you can wave good-bye to blurry pictures, even in dim lighting situations.

Friends and family will love the way they look in your photos when you're using the Smile Shutter (captures a smile the moment it appears on your subject's face), Anti-Blink (waits until eyes are open to take the picture) and Soft Skin (removes blemishes and wrinkles from faces in your pictures) modes. And, best of all, the W650 will do it all automatically--just press the shutter button in iAuto mode. Great pictures and videos, no stress or strain for you.

Sony DSC-W650 Features

  • 720p MP4 HD Movie Mode: In 720p MP4 movie mode the camera shoots 1280 x 720 high definition movies at 30 fps, a standard format when working with a PC. Users will create high quality movies with full use of optical zoom in files small enough to transfer to compatible PC or Mac computer
  • 3.0" (230K dots) Clear Photo LCD display: Large 3.0" (230K dots) Clear Photo LCD display features sharp, natural color that makes it easy to compose shots, read menus and view photos, even in bright sunlight
  • Intelligent Auto Mode: Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto mode thinks for you, recognizing scenes, lighting conditions, faces and adjusts settings resulting in clear images, faces with natural skin tone and less blur. Take advantage of all the technology without leaving Auto mode
  • Anti-blink Function: It's frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. The Anti-blink function works to help counter blinking and squinting
  • Natural Flash: Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images
  • Sweep Panorama mode (up to 360 Deg.): Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed, then seamlessly stitches the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization: Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality
  • Face Detection technology: Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
  • Soft Skin mode: Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot
  • Dynamic Range Optimizer: Standard and Plus Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees
  • 16.1 Megapixel Super HAD CCD Image Sensor: A powerful 16.1 megapixel 1/2.3" Super HAD CCD image sensor helps you capture gorgeous images with superb contrast and clarity down to the finest detail
  • Picture Effect for more expressive photos: Picture Effect adds a new level of expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits come to life by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes. Select models have up to nine effects
  • Smile Shutter technology: Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity
  • Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode: It automatically detects seven different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape and macro

Was a great camera at first...

By

from Madison, Wisconsin

I had this camera for a few months and it was awesome. I loved it. It was one of the best digital cameras I have had. I was really impressed with it after using my old roommate's so I went and bought my own. I only had it for a few months. I always kept it in it's box put away somewhere safe since I was living with cats that knocked things over. I brought it with me to a convention and when i turned it on it acted really screwy. The lens would focus in and out repeatedly and then the screen would display " Please turn device off and then on." and would shut itself off and the lens would continue to focus. I have not been able to get answers to whats going on with it. I probably won't buy another Cyber Shot after this.

QUIT WORKING AFTER USING 3 TIMES

By

from Tucson, AZ

Took pics on vacation one day and the next day would not work. When turned on, the shutter lens would go in and out repeatedly & said turn camera off and on. Then it wouldn't come back on. What a waste of money & the store I purchased it from wouldn't take it back. NO MORE SONY FOR ME. TOSHIBA IS WAY BETTER!

Very satisfied!

By

from the East Coast

I've had this camera for about a month & I'm very pleased. To clarify the Cons, it feels to me that the battery it came with has a short life, but on the plus side, it's easy to charge. The tripod socket is placed right next to the Battery/Memory stick cover, so if you have it screwed in, it blocks the cover & you can't get your memory stick out - inconvenient if you have a mini tripod. I usually leave the tripod adapter screwed in my dig cameras for ease of use, but cant do that on this model. Also, I wish the manual came with more detailed instructions, because there are a LOT of features. (I haven't checked the online guide out though.) Very cool picture effects, the panorama mode is super easy to use, really good zoom.

Great Camera

By

from Calhoun,ga

I love this Camera. This is my 3rd camera but my first Sony and i have to say that this is the best camera i've ever had. Its easy to use. And the pictures come out wonderful! Its great to use when kids are in motion. I have 2 little ones and they dont stop long enough to take a photo so the fact that i can use it while they are moving and i dont have to worry about blurry photos is amazing. I love it. Like i said the best camera i have purchased in a while. The other 2 cameras ive used before were kodaks and they weren't good quality photos like you get with this one. And i love the 360 its great!
