Great camera, especially in low light

This camera is with me all of the time - the quality of the Sony G lens is superb.

Excellent compact camera!

A quality small camera with exciting, useful features! Love the low light results. Don't like the MS..memory stick only. Needs SD card slot.

Always in my pocket.

I love tossing this camera in my pocket whenever I leave the house. It turns on quickly and delivers great images quality. The body feels solid and it is easy to use. The panorama feature is really cool and the video is great! For a small point and shoot that travels really well, I recommend this camera to everyone.

Great camera

Only had it about a week, but I really like it. The intelligent mode automatically selects the correct mode, and it actually works very well. Low light capabilities are fantastic. No flash needed for most shots!

Best Point & Shoot EVER!!!

The Sony WX1 is the best camera I have ever bought, and possibly the best purchase I have ever made. The CMOS sensor adds vivid color to the images and allows the camera to shoot like an SLR. The camera has an incredible Macro Function, allowing the camera to be close to an object without compromising the quality of the shot. The smile shot is a fun tool to use, especially when the person that rarely smiles, smiles. My favorite part of the camera has to be the burst mode. Unlike anything I have ever heard, this camera has the ability to take 10 shots a second at 10.2 MP! Definitely the best point and shoot camera ever!!!!!!!!!!

very good compact camera

Bought this camera on november 2009 and I have used it for nearly 5 months. Did thorough research on all cameras of this segment and I went for this one specially for it's claimed low light image quality. And yes I made the right choice. This camera performs really well in lowlight and of course during day. A very important thing is to have the right settings before taking the shots. When taking pics in low-light I would suggest to reduce the EV values for very good pictures particularly if lights are covered directly in the picture. To conclude I am much satisfied with this little camera which slips easily in to my jeans packet. I am a graduate student and I live with my friends. After looking at some of the amazing pics it took my friends told me that it is worth every penny I spent on it ! I have uploaded some pics which I took with my camera. Cheers !

Very good camera but the design sucks

All the features are really good. When I got this i tried it immediately and I noticed a black spot/shadow on the lower left of the images whenever I take pictures with flash in a dark room, I checked the screen and theres a scratch and I thought it was because of that so I went back to sony and changed it to a new same camera and theres still the black spot on the lower left, i went back AGAIN to sony and they tried fixing it, the setting and everything and still nothing happened, they tried their WX1 display camera and it has the same black shadow/spot on the lower left (ONLY IF THE FLASH IS ON AND YOU'RE IN A DARK ROOM) I really love all the features, everything! so they said, its because of the design, the black thing is the lens' shadow. but i cant go with that, with my images having that black spot. So i ended up buying a new camera the Sony HX5V which has almost the same features with WX1 but better. so think about it, if you like this camera, is it okay with you if your images has a dark shadow/spot? but after all, I LOVE THIS CAMERA! but i hate the fact about that black spot thing.

Macro mode is absent (automatic only)

It's a good digital camera, but the most important thing is missing, almost every photographer look for it when buying a camera. It's the Macro mode. Although it's present as auto, but it doesn't focus until you move away from the object you're shooting about 3 cm or more in some circumstances. You will not notice the difference in G lens and photos are just like those taken by the previous cybershot cams.

Best shot in night without flash

This is the best camera i ever used, it able to take very good and clear image at night without using a flash. Well sometime photo taken with flash look like too bright or too dark or it just look not as good as those taken without a flash, but sometime flash is really needed when in places with dim light, however this camera really take the best photo even without the flash. The photo taken is very good like those taken with DSL camera, should try it. Sony really understand what I need, most of the mobile phone can take a good photo, but however phone cannot take a really good photo when in dark place that why i need a good camera that can take good photo at night.

Useless at Night.

A "Professional Photographer" wrote about "P" Mode as "Manual". Well, Cybershots have three standard modes (the rest is Useless). 1- Automatic Mode ("A" or a Camera Logo) 2- Program Mode ("P", user can change a few settings, but Aperture and Exposure Controls are still Automatic) 3- Manual Mode (User can Control almost everything, including Exposure and Aperture settings) The DSC-WX1 should be the Best Digital Camera because it has the Best Sensor available, "Sweep Panorama" (great for large composed images) and a fast processor. But Sony removed "Manual Mode" so this camera is useless at night. It keeps it's own settings and there's no way to change exposure values. Older Cybershots had Manual Mode enabled so users can choose between Automatic, Program and Manual mode (an "M" as the "Professional Photographer" didn't say). I've been a Cybershot User for more than TEN Years, so I know what I'm talking about. Sony Downgraded the Cybershot line. Oh! i returned this Cybershot to Sony. Serial Number: 8251850 PS: If you are a Professional Photographer, Adobe Photoshop is a handy tool to convert images to B&W, Sepia, etc. Check it! ;)

Light and Fast

Good camera for my wife who just wants to point and shoot and not mess around with settings, or shoot great video. But it's also great for me when I want to create the right shot with more input. This camera really performs well if you want to choose the settings yourself.

THE BEST CAMERA EVER!!!

Hey! Got this cam for Christmas. bought it in Australia.. Its really very fun to use. for those STUPID people out there who are writing reviews that this camera is a piece of scrap.. EXCUSE me! I think for you to know the camera better is that you READ the MANUAL! you idiots! Don't mess with me. I'm a professional photographer by the way and this is a great camera. just like a little SLR. more like a little SLR actually. the moment you buy a camera... please. please. learn to read the manual... it really helps. and please, don't judge. there are certain rules for this camera for you to know how to use it safely and better. so FREAKS out there... GET TO KNOW SONY CYBER-SHOT DSC-WX1!!!! Thanks Sony. :) BTW people... the manual for this stuff is using the "P". duh! here you get to adjust everything for yourself. ISO.. etc. :)

Incapable of showing dates on photos

This camera does not have the feature of superimposing dates on images. This camera is almost too small to handle. Very poorly engineered. Cables and charging systems not up to the usual Sony standers. It is a shame that Sony placed their name on this piece of junk. This camera falls very short of the previous Sony cameras.

Exactly as advertised!

I've spent years looking for a nice pocket sized small camera that I can take great pictures without a flash. This camera takes amazing low-light pictures. The trick is that since there are no manual controls, you need to keep light-sources out of the frame and instead shoot your low light subject with only indirect light. The attached photo was taken hand-held, no flash, with very little light. Any other similarly priced pocket camera would have made this a blury grainy mess without a flash. As a bonus, the panaramic features are very forgiving of shaky hands and produce stunning pictures with almost no effort. The trick with those is to definately focus on your target first, then go back and start your panaramic. I have used the flash on this camera rarely, but when I have, the flash tends to wash out the photos.. I purchased the camera to use without a flash so that doesn't matter to me.

Great low light photos

I just received this new camera four days ago, but have taken two hundred shots to try it out. It will take a photo in low light that rivals my Sony A100 (not up to my A700). F2.4 and ISO 3200 in a tiny camera! The panorama mode is just amazing. You hold down the button and pan the camera; some how the camera internally lines up the horizon and blends the colors. The 24mm wide-angle view is of course very wide for such a small camera; it is the size of a cell phone. This is the small camera I have been waiting for, good work Sony.
