About Sony DSCWX50

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX50 Digital Camera is a straight-forward point-and-shoot with 16.2 megapixels packed into an Exmor R CMOS sensor. That means, even though it's a compact camera, you can shoot detailed photos that look great big or small - even on your HDTV or blown up to a poster-size print. Additionally, the WX50 shoots 1080i video, giving you the ability to take full advantage of social media sites with your movies.

Along with features like iSCN - which detects 33 scene conditions and automatically adjust camera settings for you - the WX50 also puts a number of creative and advanced capture options at your fingertips. From the ease of using the Intelligent Sweep Panorama feature for one shot landscapes to the Background Defocus function for a look more frequently associated with DSLR capture, this camera has an extensive menu of useful capabilities. Other such features include Anti-blink, Soft Skin mode, Sweep Multi Angle and then some.

Of course, you can't get great shots without the right tools. The WX50 has a 2.7"Clear Photo LCD for composition, review and menu navigation. A Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 5x optical zoom - and 10x Clear Image Zoom - gives you the ability to zoom in close or go out wide for great shots from groups and landscapes to interiors. Sony's SteadyShot image stabilization keeps images blur-free, even when the camera is hand-held and the built-in flash gives you great stills when shooting in low-light. SD/SDHC/SDXC and Memory Stick Duo media all can be used with the camera for convenient file storage.

Sony DSCWX50 Features

  • 16.2Mp Back-Illuminated Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor: This camera features a 16.2Mp Exmor R CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera's Carl Zeiss lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution and stunning low-light sensitivity
  • Optical Zoom Plus Clear Image Zoom: Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns
  • Full HD 1080/60i: Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60i in 1080 AVCHD video. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HDTV. With dual record of stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time
  • Capture the Decisive Moment with Up to 10fps: Capture full 16.2Mp resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, a mechanical shutter helps reduce distortion
  • Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode: Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode for blur-free movies even while walking. Camera-shake compensation using Optical SteadyShot/Active Mode has been improved with the addition of new electronic image stabilization
  • 3.0" LCD Touchscreen: The 3.0" Xtra Fine LCD display (921K dots) with touchscreen makes it easy to glide through menus and preview live Pictures Effects. The large display delivers brilliant-quality still images and movies while enabling easy focusing operation
  • 3D Still Image and 3D Sweep Panorama Mode: Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D Still Image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Photos will take on a new dimension of creative capabilities for viewing the world in a whole new way
  • Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR Mode: With Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR mode just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a high resolution panoramic image providing the ability to zoom in on small details
  • Background Defocus: DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now these point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit. The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applied a defocused background
  • Picture Effect for More Expressive Photos: Picture Effect adds a new level of expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits come to life by heightening mode and emphasizing certain attributes. Select models have up to nine effects
  • Superior Auto Mode: Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using Backlight Correction HDR technology
  • Face Detection Technology: Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
  • Smile Shutter Technology: Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment if happens. Simply select Smile Shutter and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity
  • Anti-blink Function: It's frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. The Anti-blink function works to help counter blinking and squinting
  • Soft Skin Mode: Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot
  • Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode: Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects 36 different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings
  • Natural Flash: Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images
  • Motion Detection: Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces
  • Sweep Multi Angle Mode: In Sweep Multi Angle mode, the camera takes 15 images at different angles as it sweeps across the scene. By tilting the camera during playback, the camera's Gyro Sensor detects motion and displays the image in a 3D-like view on the camera's LCD
  • Scene Modes: High Sensitivity / Soft Snap / Soft Skin / Landscape / Night Portrait / Night Scene /Handheld Twilight / Gourmet / Beach / Snow / Fireworks / Pet Mode /Anti-motion blur / Backlight Correction HDR
  • AF Modes: Multi Point AF /Center Weighted AF / Spot AF / Flexible Spot AF / Flexible Spot AF(Tracking Focus) / Flexible Spot AF (Face Tracking Focus)

Great camera for the Price!

By

from Birchwood, WI  -  Casual Photographer

Having been without a camera for a couple years, I shopped online and found this to be rated well for the price. I have not been disappointed. The ultimate test was waving my hand as I snapped a photo....it came out clear with no lag time. Sold! It is compact, easy to toss in a purse or pocket. It takes awesome photos within a reasonable distance....not necessarily close-ups for flower shots (as an example), nor faraway ocean scenery, but outstanding on everything in between. Great value for the money!

Awesome Camera, tons of features

By

from Las Vegas, NV  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this for work to take pictures of our floors. I wasn't looking for too much and this camera FAR exceeded my expectations. Simple to use, super fast shutter and zoom, takes good quality video, and loads of features. There isnt anything I don't like, except it didn't come with a memory card or case. That isn't something to take away from the camera itself though. I plan to buy another as a gift soon. Thanks Adorama for an easy and smooth transaction, James

Excellent value for the price

By

from Washington, DC  -  Casual Photographer

I bought this camera to replace a Kodak Easyshare M863 which a friend accidentaly dropped. I must say I am quite surprised and impressed with the performance of this Cyber-Shot, in comparison to my previous one. At under $100, the quality and sharpness of the pictures is excellent. It takes good pictures in low light, so no complaints about the flash. It took very little time to charge it. It might be a tad slower to recharge before another picture can be taken, but this is not bothersome for a recreational user like me. I have only had the camera for a month, but I am very satisfied with the quality of the pictures I have taken until now, in both interiors and exteriors. So far, I cannot think of any cons. I just hope it will stay like this for a long while...

I just received the camera so still learning to use it. Did not look at book yet but should do so. Now just fun playing with it! After I become more familiar with it will try to remember to return and update my report. But so far a fantastic camera every shot clear and bright despite deliberately trying to shoot under poor conditions.
