Very great camera

I bought this camera after beginning to learn Digital Photography at my school. Switching from a Canon Rebel to a Sony DSLR was a pretty easy switch, and one I'm glad I made. I bought this camera after beginning to learn Digital Photography at my school. Switching from a Canon Rebel to a Sony DSLR was a pretty easy switch, and one I'm glad I made. I feel, that while that may have been a slightly more expensive camera, the A390 is a much better camera, with greater capabilities, especially for outdoor or low light scenarios. The 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera was also great. However, the short focal length can really hinder you on some photos, but it is still a good starting lens. It has great DoF, and the low F. 3.5 when fully zoomed out allows for some good pictures in low light scenarios. The only thing that really bothered me, however, was the way the flash works. It seems that whenever I take a picture, that the subject closest is light up, however the background is almost completely dark. Now, not to say that in doing that, it doesn't create a more dynamic effect, along with a shallow depth of field, but if the background were just a little brighter, it would make the pictures look a little better, in my opinion. Either way, after having this camera for about two months now, and really getting to experiment with it in different scenarios, I am very happy with what I purchased. I would definitely recommend this camera to a friend, and if it was stolen, I would replace it immediately, either with this same model, or maybe an A580 just for the added video capabilities. Either way, a very powerful camera, and a very good choice for anyone starting to get into digital photography.

Sony Lover

By

from Orlando, FL  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I already owned a Sony A100 10 MPX and I was very happy with it until recently. It seemed that there was some shutter lag and I was getting dark shadows in some of my pictures. So, I proceeded to start looking for a new camera. I thought maybe it was time to look at a different brand, but I would have to buy new lenses and I did not want to invest that much right now. So, I found the A390 and the price was right. I have to say I was not dissapointed. It was easy to get used to all the different buttons. The one thing I was not happy with is where they put the AV button, it is not easy to get to. Also the AEL button is missing. I haven't found how to get around that yet. Overall it was worth the price and more.

Great first Camera

By

from Baltimore, Maryland  -  Photography Student

I am a freelance photographer and college student. I also have my own photography business. I purchased this product 1 year ago. It was my first DSLR camera. I was extremely excited to finally have the funds to purchase it. Overall, its the best camera on the planet in my book. It has everything that any photographer is going to need. One thing that I wish that I knew before purchasing it is if it had video, which this camera does not have. I later found out that Sony has two different collections of DSLR cameras, ones that have video and ones that don't have video. But if you are strictly photography and not video, this camera will be prefect for you. It's not hard to operate and if you sit down to see what does what, you will get very use to using the Sony Alpha A390.

Phenomenal Camera - Specially for starters

By

from Patchogue, NY

I was a newbie in photography, but always wanted to get a camera which can help me click those wonderful pics, and frankly i bought this camera just for the price-point. But in the first use itself, it gave me phenomenal results and crisp pictures. Its an awesome camera, and I am buying it again, since I lost the first one :(

I Think I'm In Love

By

from Long Beach, Ca

I honestly have nothing bad to say about this camera. Most of the DSLR's I see are so heavy, but unlike the others, the a390 is nice and light. Easy to use , and a great deal. The camera produces nice, crisp photos for those momentous occasions. A great beg. camera.

First time DSLR buyer satisfied with cho

By

from Helena, MT  -  Photo Enthusiast

Was set on the Canon G12 then I read reviews, switched to Nikon D7000. Both had issues. What I really wanted was 1). a viewfinder; 2). changeable lens, 3). a system that was going to be around and which had levels of quality. After reading a bunch of reviews I picked the Sony A390. I've been very pleased with my choice. Satisfied with the quality, sharpness and ease of use. At a recent family event I thought my pics better than my daughter-in-law's Canon Rebel! Usable fine Minolta lens available as well, a plus!

Everthing I need and more

By

I'm still learning all the features of the camera but so far I have been very pleased with all aspects of the camera. I also like the fact that I can use my old Minolta lenses with this camera.

Excellent resolution with kit lens

By

from Inman SC  -  Casual Photographer

I have not had a single focus issue as I did with my previous dslr, it even focuses in low light and with 800 iso I have captured shots I would not have gotten with my previous camera, which was less than 2 years old. I thought at first this was a downgrade from that camera, but I sold that one and kept this one as my every day camera. OVF is pretty poor only negative.

nice, very nice!

By

from Sutherlin Oregon  -  Photo Enthusiast

This camera is a fine addition to my photo arsenal. it makes for an easy transition from 35mm to digital. I am pleased to see that Sony has continued the high quality standards that i have always found in Minolta's film cameras. It is far superior to others in it's price range. I love it. Can't think of anything negative about it. Buy it, You'll be happy too.
