About Sony NEX-3N

The Sony NEX-3N is the world's smallest and lightest cameras of its type10Included in its remarkably compact body is a large APS-C image sensor for superb image quality and convenient built-in flash. This all-round performer features simplified operation thanks in part to a 180-degree tilt-able LCD screen - ideal for self-portraits - and a new zoom key. There is also intelligent Auto Object Framing, a new function that makes it easy for anyone to obtain perfectly composed photos for a wide variety of scenes.

You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements. Thanks to the large 16.1 megapixel APS-C sensor size and Sony Exmor APS HD CMOS technology, the camera achieves high resolution with no penalty in low-light sensitivity or sensor noise.

A new zoom lever on the body of the camera allows for effortless one-handed operation and smooth zooming even when shooting self-portraits, bringing compact camera convenience to the realm of interchangeable-lens models.

The NEX-3N's tiltable LCD screen flips up 180° to make shooting self-portraits a snap. Include other people, experiment with interesting angles or shoot against famous landmarks. When you press the shutter, the camera does all the work.

Measuring just 3/16" (29.9mm) when fully retracted, this SELP-1650 retractable zoom lens is super compact and easy to carry so you never miss the moment. It covers a 16mm to 50mm range (35mm equivalent = 24-75mm) for flexible shooting, and is equipped with one ED (extra-low dispersion) and four Aspherical elements, resulting in a high performance lens that is surprisingly compact.

Give your photos a professional look with Auto Object Framing. Featuring advancements like exceptional two-person portrait capability along with Face Detection and Tracking Focus, Auto Object Framing not only turns ordinary photos into stunning compositions but does so automatically recognizing the scene then cropping accordingly.

Sony NEX-3N Features

  • Full HD 1080/60i/24p or 1080/30p MP4 movies: Record stunning high quality Full HD video4 in either 60i or 24p frames per second. Records in your choice of 60i/24p Blu-Ray quality AVCHD format, or in PC-friendly 1080/30p MP4 format.
  • Built-in flash built into compact body: Perfect when an extra burst of light is needed to get the shot, the built-in Guide Number 6 flash combines with high ISO sensitivity to enable shooting in just about any setting.
  • Up to ISO 16000 sensitivity: With a new Exmor sensor that features the same adaptive noise reduction technology from Sony's flagship SLT-A99V, the NEX-3N easily offers a wide range of sensitivity from ISO 100 to ISO 16000.
  • Newly designed anti-slip grip: Perfect for self-portraits or casual snaps, the natural form ensures quick, comfortable handling and makes the camera easy to carry around. In addition, the textured grip prevents slipping even when shooting one-handed or when using exceptionally large lenses.
  • Picture Effect modes: The NEX-3N includes 15 effects that can be applied to photos or movies, giving you the means to vastly expand your artistic repertoire. The ability to view effects in real-time on the LCD screen before the shot lets you experiment with different looks until you are satisfied with the result.

  • Superior Auto mode: Use Superior Auto mode to shoot photos and movies with the ease of a compact digital camera. In this mode, the camera recognizes the current shooting environment then adjusts settings for optimal results.
  • Anti-Motion Blur mode: Corrects for subject movement to capture amazingly clean and sharp images in low light. The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six creates a single image that minimizes subject blur.
  • Hand-held Twilight Mode: Get cleaner and sharper nighttime pictures beyond the capability of traditional cameras without using flash or a tripod. The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second.
  • Face Detection/Smile Shutter: Set NEX-3N to recognize faces and smiles. Face Detection locates up to eight faces in a composition then adjusts exposure, white balance and other settings based on these faces. Smile Shutter - adjustable in three levels - automatically takes a shot when smiles in the scene are at their brightest.
  • Creative Style: Tailor the look of photos and movies before shooting. Choose from one of six settings - Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset or Black & White - depending on the scene or your creative intent.
  • Speed Priority Continuous mode: Freeze fast-moving subjects by shooting at up to 4 fps. This is the ideal solution for photographing sports, children at play or other action.
  • Up to 480 Shots of battery life: Take up to 480 shots on a single charge with Sony lithium ion Stamina battery power. Sony's InfoLITHIUM battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence.

A large sensor tiny camera that ticks all t' boxes

Sony NEX series cameras have always attracted my attention due to their tiny dimensions, 1.5x crop factor large sensor, high capacity battery and very good image characteristics. Sony NEX series cameras have always attracted my attention due to their tiny dimensions, 1.5x crop factor large sensor, high capacity battery and very good image characteristics. However, I've never gotten one since they were not ticking all the boxes for me. For example the earlier kit zoom lens of NEX was both very large and not stellar in image quality, so I wanted a better and smaller one. And as a final point, since this camera will replace my compact digicam and will be shared with my family, a simple built in flash and a zoom rocker control next to the shutter release was an important need from usability perspective. NEX-3N delivers all these points with style, and for only $450, such a good deal! It comes with a wonderfully tiny power zoom lens which has a very useful 16-50mm (24-75mm eqv) range. It is a no-frills camera but has all the necessary features and the most important thing, its image quality rocks! Not only that, but also wonderfully clean and clear full HD movies, during which you can zoom with the compact camera style zoom rocker. I have sold all my other compacts and my large DSLR. This Sony replaces them all. Wonderful camera.

. smaller body/lens (though still not a pocket pack) . No front curtain shutter, feel not as fast as f3 . + and - for the electrical lens . harder to hold compare to nex 5. . 16mm side lens distortion is something.

GREAT Camera

By

from La Paz Baja California Sur, México

I've had this Camera [white NEX-3NL model], and i absolutely love it, i ask a friend of mine about a camera that be light, small, and with pretty good quality on photos, i didn't had any idea of Photography, i was looking something else, and my friend told me and talked me about the NEX series and i decided to plunge into this one, and now i want more not because this was a poor camera, but because this camera is so good and perfect that make me wanna jump into a more professional/enthusiast/hobby camera like the a99 or a65, etc. This is a great Camera if you want to start into this world of Photography 'cause is pretty easy to use and comfortable, with all the menus, buttons, etc. And take clear images and great as you can see in the example images. it takes great photos in dark/twilight situations and with the long exposures, i'm stil experimenting with this camera with the included lens 16-50 mm and also bought the 20mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens "pancake", great pictures with both lenses. I absolutely recommend this camera.!!! I'm Pretty Happy With my Purchase.

LOVE LOVE LOVE BUT,

By

from COS, colorado

So I absolutely LOVE the camera!! If you've never had a DSLR then it can be aitttle hard to use and take a minute to learn so im still not able to get pictures in low light without TONS of noise and distortion but hoping that's just me. Its still tiny and light but takes amazing DSLR quality photos it has so many features it almost has it all and if you've never had anything more then a point and shoot then it defiantly has enough all you will need to begin for sure!!! But so my main complaint is I have had the camera just over a month, I got the white one and it is getting little cracks in the paint a few all over in different places near the screws and just open areas too!! I have treated the camera perfectly with the most care there is no reason it should have cracks im VERY UPSET!!! And also maybe my fault but when I got it I used it the next day without thinking about getting a screen protector for the LCD first and from just ONE use of hanging it around my neck letting it dangle a few hours taking 100's of pictures the LCD screen is RUINED so horribly scratched its hard to see through on areas it makes seeing the screen at certain angles really hard. I've never had a screen scratch so easily so fast so bad ever! I only wish there was something I could do now. Otherwise LOVE the camera cant wait to get to try the newer ones !! I give it 3 1/2-4 stars because if its already this messed up from a couple uses it doesn't seem like it will last very long and for the price it should be a little more sturdy and last 2-4 years or more!!!

Great Camera

By

from Orange County, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

This was a great camera at a great price. I highly recommend it. Fast shutter speed and auto focus. As well as great indoor shooting and low light. I never got the results I wanted from my point and shoot but I didn't want to spend the money on and deal with the size of a DSLR. This camera has the portability of a point and shoot and the quality of a DSLR. Excellent camera.
