With 13 times the area of the typical point-and-shoot image sensor, APS-C makes the difference between "snapshots" and "photographs," delivering an exceptional combination of high resolution, high sensitivity and gorgeous, blurred backgrounds.
  • Fast Hybrid AF: Sony's advanced Fast Hybrid AF combines two technologies for outstanding performance: Phase detection AF for quick response that is ideal when tracking fast-moving subjects and contrast-detection AF for added precision. A perfect match that delivers optimal Auto Focus for fast, precise focusing in any scene.
  • XGA Tru-Finder OLED: This eye-level, through-the-lens, viewfinder begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth. OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum. You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail.
  • Wi-Fi Sharing: Wi-Fi capability - a first for Alpha-series - lets users transfer photos directly to smartphones and tablets with the PlayMemories Mobile app. Wi-Fi capability allows for sharing, viewing and saving photos for expanded photo-shooting enjoyment. Photos can be easily transferred to smartphones and tablets, or viewed on TV/PCs.

It is ideal for dimly lit settings and can be used as a fill flash when shooting in bright sunshine or to produce catch lights in portraits. The flash combines with ultra-high ISO 2500 and a large APS-C HD CMOS sensor for stunning low-light photos.
  • Picture Effect mode: The Photo Creativity interface enables creative expression of SLR-quality digital imaging without the complicated settings. Changes can be easily made using the control dial with results seen in real time on the LCD. Settings include; Background Defocus, Brightness, Color, Vividness and most Picture Effects.
  • Auto Portrait Framing: Simply photograph a person and Auto Portrait Framing will save an additional, optimally framed image in portrait or landscape orientation. Combining Face Detection and By Pixel Super Resolution technologies with rule of thirds, Auto Portrait Framing provides beautifully composed and full resolution portraits.
  • Clear Image Zoom: Utilizing Sony's exclusive By Pixel Super Resolution Technology, Clear Image Zoom increases the effective focal length of your lens up to 2x by digitally magnifying the center of your image with nearly imperceptible degradation. It virtually doubles the effective focal length of whatever lens you're using.
  • Convenient USB charging: Easily recharge the camera via USB charging. Simply connect the bundled USB cable and recharge the battery without removing it from the camera, either via AC outlet or PC connection.
  • Full HD Movies at 60p/60i/24p: Capture HD Movies in your choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920x1080 resolution. AVCHD codec delivers stunning picture quality. MP4 codec offers smaller files for easier upload to the web.
  • Auto HDR built into camera: High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography captures more scene contrast than a single exposure can handle by combining the best highlight detail from one shot and the best shadow detail from another for one incredible shot. Handles severe backlighting and other high-contrast scenes. Captures in a split second.
  • 6-image layering: The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second. The camera then combines the data from the 6 different images up to ISO 25600 to create a single image. This helps control blur in Anti-Motion Blur mode or to get cleaner nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode.
  • Sweep Panorama Technology: Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together. Up to 23 MP image size. Up to 202 degrees maximum sweep angle (16mm focal length).
  • Anti Motion Blur mode: Corrects for subject movement to capture amazingly clean and sharp images in low light. The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six creates a single image that minimizes subject blur.
  • Intelligent Auto Focus: Pre-focuses as you compose the shot, further reducing focusing time to a bare minimum.
  • Peaking AF display: The Peaking AF display makes precise manual focusing much easier by highlighting the edges that are in focus in your choice of three colors (white, red, or yellow). This is especially helpful during macro or portrait photography where your focal plane can make or break your shot.
  • Manual Focus Assist: Greatly magnifies the viewfinder image when you touch the focus ring, making it easy to get razor-sharp images. Works with E-mount lenses only.
  • Enhanced Tracking Focus: Tracking Focus continuously tracks a user-designated subject and is now more effective at tracking people. If the subject turns away from the camera, face-detection tracking automatically switches to subject tracking and continues tracking.
  • Face Detection technology: The camera can automatically detect up to eight individual faces and adjust focus, exposure, white balance and flash to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends. Can prioritize children or adults.
  • Smile Shutter technology: Captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply select the Smile Shutter mode and the camera takes the picture automatically. You can prioritize children or adults and adjust the smile sensitivity.
  • D-Range Optimizer (DRO): Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level with a choice of five operating levels and Off.
  • Creative Styles (6 modes): Control how the camera processes your images with six finishing styles: Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset and B&W. You can even fine- tune contrast, saturation, and sharpness to your personal taste.
  • PhotoTV HD compatibility: Optimizes compatible BRAVIA® televisions for gorgeous display of digital pictures.
  • MS Duo/ SD slot: For cost-effective, convenient storage and sharing of your images, the camera accepts Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and SD/SDHC media (Class 4 or higher recommended), (Memory card is required, all are sold separately).
  • Anti-dust sensor: Anti-Dust Technology helps keep the CMOS sensor clean, resulting in consistently clear pictures. First a static-free coating on the sensor's low-pass filter helps repel dust. Then vibration automatically dislodges dust from the sensor.

I've been using pro level, huge and heavy, DSLR's for many years (after many, many years of using BIG AND HEAVY film SLR's). - primarily because of their better image quality when compared to smaller, lighter cameras. It was not unusual for me to lug around a 30 pound gadget bag, full of camera bodies, lenses and accessories. But, for the past couple of years, I've found myself picking up, carrying around, and using, little, point & shoot cameras because of their lighter weight and bulk - but, I soon found that their image quality was not good enough for "prime time," so I began looking for a premium quality, small, mirror- less camera - and I think I've found just that in my new Sony NEX-6. Wonderful every day, take everywhere, carry-around,camera. Excellent image quality with the kit 16-50 zoom., Easy to use (although the incredible number and variety of features are a little mind boggling at first). EVF is perfectly satisfactory and certainly better than looking at the screen in bright daylight. I've only used the camera for less than a week, but I have been extremely pleased with the results. Colors and images are comparable to those I've experienced from pro level DSLR's. I printed a couple of 13X19 enlargements of NEX-6 images this week and the quality is superb. Just in case you can't tell, I love this little camera!

Dont buy it if you are upgrading from other nex

camera came without a proper battery charger. it came with a USB charger which use camera as charging device. So if you have a spare battery, no use for that. Also this camera only support the battery that came with the camera. Other nex batteries are not compatible. Good thing about this camera its new design, view finder and power lens. But totally not worth the money.

Best Camera for the Size!

from Denver, CO  -  Photo Enthusiast

I'm using this camera for travel and general picture-taking. Although it's not an SLR, It has many or all of the functions of one, without the big size and price. The only thing I don't like about it is I'm constantly feeling like I'm going to lose the lense cover, as it's small and doesn't have a strap attachment. I'm hoping I can find some way to fix that before my next outing.

Remote iPhone app is great

from New York, NY

I'm sure you read all the other reviews about the image quality and lenses. Here is the addition for the remote mobile phone app, "Smart Remote Control." It uses WIFI but the camera acts as an access point. So, if you are in the mountains without any WIFI, just turn on the app on the NEX 6, search for the access point using your mobile phone, then they get paired. The NEX 6 acts like a WIFI router. I've used it up to 30 feet away. It can be used anywhere. The phone gives a real time video feed (sometimes half sec delayed) to the phone. It can send the image to the phone each time you take a picture, but this transfer delays time between shots. It uses whatever settings you had for the camera before going into this mode. You can't change anything from the phone, yet. But, I'm sure there will be an update like any app with more functionality. How does this help you? You can see the picture on your phone in real time and adjust the people in the picture just right to take the perfect shot. The rest of the reviews here are pretty spot on. 24mm lens is excellent!

comments about NEX-6L/B

from Burlington, MA

Camera and lens are almost perfect, easy to use, comfortable in hand, very compact package, with almost any function you can think of. 1. Would like to be able to set upper limit of ISO setting rather than a specific ISO setting. 2. WiFi image transfer to computer far too slow.

limited NEX 6 lens

from Jacksonville, Fl

I really like the NEX 6, especially the active viewfinder, and I keep wanting to buy it. I just can't find a lens I want to carry with it. I want a walkaround camera with the APS-C sensor to replace the Sony HX9V I now carry in a cell phone belt pouch. I want a pocket camera, not a pocket camera with a backpack of accessories. If Sony took the lens from the CyberShot and put it on the NEX 6, I would buy it in a heartbeat

great idea for a lens

from Phnom Penh Cambodia  -  Semi-Pro Photographer

Great lens with a great focal length for travel and walk around.

Great camera and lens

from Pennsylvania and Cambodia  -  Photo Enthusiast

So simple to use yet very powerful and capable.

As good as I hoped/expected

from New York  -  Photo Enthusiast

Travel to trade shows over the past three weeks, great for people, outdoor & indoor landscape. Easy to change out lense and compact enough to be able to bring along. AutoFocus can get itself a little confused at times.

The IPAD of Camera's

from Northern California

Wow ! What a delight to work with, brings the fun back to photography. Easy to use , a comfort to hold, IQ that wows !, so intuitive. I love this Camera. When a product like the IPAD is released and you get to using it and it feels like an extension of your mind and body, you know your on to something special an engineering marvel. I can say that this is the same feeling I felt with the NEX 6. with its compact size and large sensor the same one in the likes of such excellent camera's like the Nikon D7000, D5100, Pentax K30 this little marvel holds its ground on IQ against the above mentioned. But unlike the big black bricks they call camera's, you'll be more up to carrying this Camera out and making the shot, its the travelers dream. A compact power house! The NEX 6 also has photo apps that can be downloaded directly via its WIFI capability, these apps add a whole other dimension of possibilities for pre and post picture editing and features. The video in this Camera is also fantastic in pure HD 1080 with image stabilization, you'll look at your video and think you shot it using a Hollywood camera costing thousands. As with everything we must also list it short coming which I feel are very small. One the View finder in very dark scenes can get a little grainy this is due to it being a mirrorless camera and it does not have an optical viewfinder but an OLED viewfinder so its like having a small TV to look through , this does not effect picture image quality in the least just what you are framing through the viewfinder in the dark. In the light, viewing your taken photo's through the viewfinder adds a dimension of 3D effect to the photo's a really nice effect, one thing I wanted to mention about the viewfinder that's a positive is that if your a little unfamiliar with the Pro camera settings - manual settings and want to venture into this as you learn, all adjustment made can instantly be seen in the viewfinder - ISO settings, shutter settings etc.. you will be able to see in real time the effects they have on the image, this is an excellent learning tool. Second Con - would be the battery life. You'll be able to take about 300 -400 photo's before having to recharge- easy fix purchase a second or third battery. So there you have it I love the NEX 6 and believe you will also. Enjoy!

Best Camera I've Bought In A While

from Undisclosed

I have been buying about 3 cameras a year since I started seriously into videography. I run multi-cam shoots and upgrade several bodies at once. After 3 months with this camera I still have no complaints. It performs as well as any full-bodied APS-C DSLR and has the best control scheme I've seen on a Compact Mirrorless to date. WiFi is nice and works well, but is a feature I rarely use. Hybrid PD/CD-AF is lightning-fast with near-instant focus speeds, though it does not work with video mode, only CD-AF. Lens Compensation settings can fix your jpegs but not raw images or video. Video capture on this camera is superb. IMHO, it crushes everything Canon and stand side-by-side with Nikon (who use Sony sensors on many models). Big win for videographers here, and the crisp EVF is a nice touch too. This camera sits alone at the top of the mirrorless class and stands side-by-side with the best of the APS-C DSLR cameras. Imperceptable differences between the 7D or D7000 in iage quality. Big win for Sony!
