About Sony DSC-RX100M III

Sony partners once more with legendary lensmaker Zeiss to produce a camera with optical abilities that outperforms digital cameras in a similiar size class. Enhancing on its predecessor, the DSC-RX100 II, this DSC-RX100 III camera boasts a powerful 24-70mm equivalent F1.8-2.8 lens, both faster and wider, for better low light performance and shallower depth-of-field. This, in addition to an innovative 1" 20.1 MP Exmor R sensor which is extra sensitive to decreased illumination, ensuring beautifully rendered photos in all scenarios. A pop-up OLED viewfinder will prove a great aid for precise picture framing and set up while the multi-angle 3" Xtra Fine LCD display is a feature clearly endearing to selfies. Expert movie capture is a major feature of this camera with XAVC S, AVCHD and MP4 codec choices and an HDMI clean output for uncompressed video recordings. Picture sharing is fast and easy with integtrated Wi-Fi and NFC.

Great compact camera.

By

from Jupiter, FL  -  Pro Photographer

I wanted a quality, compact camera which would fit easily in my pocket, yet better than using my iPhone. This camera has a Zeiss lens along with 20.1mp, so it does fit the requirement. I'm still working with it as the only issue I have is indoor/flash photos. Flash seems to wash out people and no flash won't focus well enough, so I'm sure it's me and not the camera and I'll figure it out.

Wonderful little gem!

By

from South Dartmouth, MA  -  Pro Photographer

The compactness of this camera is just what I was looking for. I wanted a high quality, top notch point and shoot to take everywhere as the iPhone is just not that item. I am a professional so I appreciate the Zeiss lens along with 20mp. My former Canon G12 was great, but not as compact as I wanted since I take it along on ski trips, golf outings and general travel. Also, my professional equipment isn't practical on such occasions. The 24-70 lens could be more, however the camera has great low light capabilities.

Cannot get it to charge!

By

from South Dartmouth, MA  -  Pro Photographer

Third time is a charm, so they say. After returning two of this camera, I'm awaiting the arival of yet a third as the first two would not take a charge right out of the box. Adorama service is easy and seamless, thank goodness, but it's a bit frustrating to not have this camera in my hands and working as one would expect an almost $800 point and shoot to work. Hopefully, I will be able to write a glowing report next time, if there is a next time...

Perfection

By

from Northern Arizona  -  Semi-Pro Photographer

I own two pro level cameras and take them along with the new Sony. Often I can get amazing shots with the Sony that I cannot capture with the "big" full frame cameras. It's so easy to use and even with auto exposures, the images come out fabulously. The resolution is so amazing, I cannot tell which camera the shot was taken with. Since I've only taken a few hundred shots, haven't really put it through it's paces but what I have seen are the best images I have ever seen with a point and shoot. The adjustable monitor allows shots you couldn't get otherwise and my very favorite feature that the "big" cameras don't have. Attracts no attention if you want to shoot street scenes.

A Pretty Amazing Piece of Electronics

By

from South Easton, MA  -  Pro Photographer

As a professional photographer, I have been looking for a walk-around pocketable camera with a viewfinder for a while. I have used the Fuji X10, which although not pocketable was an excellent machine, but the lack of a good viewfinder was disappointing. Along comes Sony and they have now set the bar with the RX100 III. The viewfinder is fantastic giving you full view and shooting information to boot. The image quality is superb and it's high ISO response is quite good. I added an aftermarket grip, which improves the handling, which was not bad without the grip, however. I am not a video guy, although I have shot a few mp4's with very pleasing results. The continuous focus in video works, albeit a bit slow, but it was quite effective in the videos that I did shoot. Yes, the zoom length could be longer, however, what you lose there compared to the II, you make up with a 1.8-2.8 lens. I have used the camera to shoot some concerts and have submitted those images to the paper and wire service that I work with and the images are as good as those coming out of my pro DSLR. The camera has tons of features and allows a photographer at any skill level to make no adjustments, few adjustments or many in setting up a shot. While the manual is on line, most people can figure out how it works and the camera gives you prompts and suggestions that make the usability quite simple. I would have recommended this camera to others. It is expensive, but sometimes, you get what you pay for. It is not perfect, but it is darn close!

Fast and sharp glass. Wish I had this a couple of years ago. Great camera but expensive.
